Some amazing book dedications:
PEOPLE WOULD HAVE DIED
one of my books is dedicated to the patrons who sponsored it
and the other says, “You know who you are. You know what you did.”
I found one once in a library that said, “To my wife, who said that if I didn’t find something to do with myself after I retired that she would shoot me.”
zoom lectures
Video lecture is a weird weird experience.
You’re in your professor’s home, your classmates’ homes, and they’re in yours. We still have to teach the professor how to use their computer.
It’s very intimate and strange. Someone sneezes and my prof shouts “is it corona”
This is quite the time to be alive
Update: another one of my profs has joined the call. She’s talking but is muted.
Everyone is yelling “please unmute, we cant year you”
She cant find the unmute button. We’re only on slide 8 of 50.
Update 2: prof who joined us now trying to leave the call but can’t. Didn’t re-mute herself so we’re all waiting for her to go.
Prof: “This should only take about an hour! Not too long.”
Me, an hour in on slide 20/50:

things i miss (in no particular order)
the convenience of just popping out to the store when you needed something
friends! i miss friends
people in general too. can’t go near people in public rn.
just being calm? not having so much worry about stepping foot outside my house
shopping
being able to go on social media or turn on tv without everything being about death and covid
quarantine thoughts day 1
i’ve essentially been in quarantine for three weeks. my spring break started march 8th and we were supposed to go back on the 16th. we didn’t (thanks corona!)
now, ive been stuck in my house in self-isolation for the last 14 days. so far we’re all good here (in my house at least), but i can’t take how people are acting! there are people still out and about despite the fact NJ government has issued a stay at home order. all “non-essential” businesses have been forced to close. but what have they deemed essential? liquor stores. restaurants. strangely enough a bike shop.
and no one seems to be following the six feet apart recommendation! i go to the store as infrequently as i can for groceries. people in line are standing DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. last i checked, six feet was quite a distance, and not breathing down my neck.
other people have gone off the deep end. my grocery store has not had any paper goods or cleaning products in stock since the beginning of the month. the big grocery stores have absolutely no regulation in regards to capacity. people are queued up to go in back to back. there is no courtesy. the most basic thing they have done is set aside the first hour or two of their open hours to the elderly.
the well off people in my town have chosen to value their own health and well being over that of others. my friend (who is currently out of work due to businesses being closed) has been contacted by several moms she knows from work to do their grocery shopping because they dont want to risk infection. but its ok to risk someone else’s health? the women hiring her are perfectly healthy as far as i know. they have no reason aside from fear to be enlisting help with shopping.
this has kind of been a longer rant that i intended, but that’s what this blog is for! ok! bye now!
