okok fine i'll elaborate

Point 1: the ringing tone of a tuning fork is piercing. there's a reason similar sounds are often used in sound baths (and i've written about those here before already) such high-pitched, clear resonances can be felt to a degree, and they're also not a sound one would encounter in everyday life (unless you have tinnitus, i guess,) which gives a sense of unearthliness.

Point 2: the action of striking something to produce the ringing is tactile, physical. a repetitive motion. a forceful motion. tap, ring, tap, ring. it seems to fill the very air itself, after a time, when done properly. one could easily find themselves imagining such a strike sending similar signals into their own head.

Point 3: the connotation of tuning. a calibrating tone to recalibrate something else to. reprogramming, readjusting, twisting and pulling strings taut (literally! hi guitar tuning!) in order to provoke the intended sound. i don't think i have to elaborate how such imagery could be used for hypnosis

1: we have since gotten a tuning fork.

2: on the instances we've demonstrated our theorem of using it for hypnosis purposes at our local hypnosis munch, people's opinions quickly went from "seems a weird choice but okay" to "oh. oh i get it." the moment we demonstrated

3: we have not gotten the chance to use this in a scene IRL yet (and its noise and resonance doesnt carry through microphones the way we'd like) and that is driving all of us slowly through the roof. we need to. it's too tempting. the themes of resonance and control and music and....
