A/N: Hi! This is my very first little imagine. I've never felt the need to write my own. Because there are so many good ones out there already. But this sort of came to me and I needed to get out. Could be au, could be after the upside down stuff. I feel it's obvious I haven't done this before. But hope you enjoyed it anyways :)
It’s nighttime. Finally. You’re crawling into bed, Steve’s already there. The room is completely dark. It’s been a day. Full of progress and big steps and you’re exited. Still you can’t shake what happened and Steve notices. “What’s up, sweetheart, you tired from today?”
Today was the second and final day of your house demo, before the builders could start with renovations. He’d been at work, but it needed to happen and your uncle had been so kind to step in and help. Lent out his tools and didn’t want you to hurt yourself, so there he was ripping out the tiles all by himself. Not letting you take over.
“Yeah…” you answer, uncertainty in your voice. “Hmmh, what is it babe?” He cradles you into his arms as you move over to him, head on his chest. “It’s just... My uncle. He- He hurt himself today. Like really badly. Ripping out those tiles without gloves, the stubborn man that he is. And I know it’s not my fault, I wanted to help and the materials to be safe were all there. But he’s hurt. Such a big and deep wound. I patched him up best as I could, but he didn’t want to see a doctor. He was in pain, which – you know him – he never shows. And I’m just really worried and I feel guilty and sad.” It all spilled out of you. Now that he gave you a safe space to lay your heart out on the table. Steve was quiet, just breathing, letting you speak. Listening attentively. Arms tightening around you. “There you go. Let it out.” He spoke. As slowly your eyes filled with water. Quiet sobs racked your body further into him. His hand coming up to your head, stroking your hair. He let you get it out. Within minutes your breathing slowed. The calm Steve was radiating washing over you. Breathing deeply, slowly closing your eyes. “Thank you, babe”. You say softly. “I love you”. “It’s okay sweetheart. Go to sleep. I love you.”.
With him there was a place for you. All of you, welcome in his arms. The pretty and the painful. You could lay it all on him and feel lighter in the process, cleansed from your pain. This man was your home.
