i still check this blog occasionally but i think it might be time for me to admit my interest in will/steve/stranger things as a Whole is really only there when the hype is at its peak 😔 i have a barely active multi that i DO plan to revive hopefully soon so if/when i do that i’ll probably add them there!!!

tbh it’s very clear in season one that lonnie wasn’t just a deadbeat, he was very abusive to joyce And both his kids but it’s strange to me that it’s never really talked about after that? besides MAYBE one or two throwaway lines about lonnie in season two 🥴 

and it’s not that i WANT their abusive father to show up again or anything lmao but some of the implications in s1 were pretty Dark and not at all subtle (joyce telling hopper about how lonnie insulted will and called him slurs, jonathan’s comment that will was good at hiding and then checking lonnie’s trunk when searching for him, lonnie shoving jonathan against the wall and saying that he’d “gotten stronger”, will knowing how to load a shotgun in the pilot which is because lonnie taught him so we can assume it was pretty close to a repeat of what jonathan described happened to him when lonnie took him hunting) so especially after you rewatch season one it feels odd that the writers just. never really brought him up again or touched on the fact that will and jon were both victims of abuse growing up? and i think it can explain a lot of will and jonathan’s character + how they react or respond to certain things, but again i wish that it was just. actually addressed!!!! 

but also it makes me kind of nervous bcus lonnie’s actor was seen at a s4 table read and obviously he wasn’t in s4 but a lot of people think that (a) some scenes planned for s4 were moved to s5, or that (b) they shot some things for s5 along with s4. but i’m scared that if they DO bring lonnie up again at this point it’ll just be like. vecna appearing as lonnie to call will a slur or something lmao

hawkins is a small town!!! hopper says in season 1 that things of note never happened there!! will’s disappearance and barbara’s death (and will’s Alleged death) were a BIG deal. imagine how isolating and alienating it must feel to live in a place where not only does everyone know you, but everyone knows about the time the whole town thought you were dead. imagine knowing that pretty much everyone around you (your friends, your neighbours, your classmates and teachers) went to your funeral. how are you supposed to cope with that!! how are you NOT supposed to feel like a freak, especially for someone like will, who already felt like he was so different from everyone else??? what the hell!!!!

what’s your role in a found family dynamic? 

the heart full of faith. 

at some point in your life, you've probably been told you're "the glue" keeping a certain group of people together. you look on the bright side of things. you are able to convince someone that everything will be alright. your (found) family walks away from you feeling strengthened by your faith and -- let's face it -- wisdom. hopefully, you aren't being taken for granted in this. keeping morale up comes naturally to you. you probably do plenty without even realizing it. you're a good listener, thoughtful, kind. even leaders come to you for guidance. you may or may not be keen on being in charge yourself, but you are trustworthy, and you do right by the people who depend on you. the only person you can't always see clearly is yourself. it's easy to tell someone their potential but incredibly difficult to realize your own. you need the support of others just as much as they need you -- but once you're put to the test, you'll realize you had the right stuff in you all along.

he  hadn’t  realized  until  it  was  too  late,   but somehow will and nancy were the only ones left cleaning up the cabin.   mike and hopper were gone to get groceries,  and argyle and jon had left to see if the hardware store was still open.  jane and mom were taking a walk outside,  probably to talk or whatever. 

the silence had stretched on long enough to border on uncomfortable,  and will felt the overwhelming need to say something.  “ hey,  did you take the good broom? ”

“  mike,   i  —  ”     will didn’t know what to say.  but he felt pretty foolish,  all of a sudden,  because,  really,  how could he have thought mike would forgot his birthday?   “ you didn’t have to get me anything. ”   he tried to suppress the giddy sort of grin that lit up his face,  but quickly realized it was losing battle and just let it happen.   “ it’s not.  i mean  —  i’m sure it isn’t.  do you want me to  —  should i open it now? ”

i’ve said it before but leaving hawkins was ultimately the best thing for will and his mental health and was necessary for him to even BEGIN healing or moving on!!! because hawkins is full of constant reminders of what happened to him. he can’t ride his bike down mirkwood anymore. there’s the library where the demogorgon (vecna? idk it’s unclear) brought him when he was trapped. the man at the convenience store on the corner keeps making jokes about how he went to will’s funeral. his classmates still call him zombie boy, and his teachers always ask him how he’s doing with that pitying look he can’t stand. he was probably upset about moving at first, because he’s 15 and leaving his home and his school and all his friends behind, but it really was the best thing for him. and he wouldn’t fully realize that until he went back, maybe excited for a visit and to see everyone again, until he gets there, and it all comes flooding back. 

but after season four? oh MAAAAAN. can you imagine what it must be like to return to a town that already holds so many dark and painful memories, only to find that your literal worst nightmares are coming true? not only is will back in hawkins, but the town was practically split in half by a portal to the upside down. ash is falling from the sky just like it did there. the thing that kidnapped tortured traumatized and possessed him is all anyone can talk about, because they just unlocked his tragic backstory or whatever and he killed multiple people and left one of will’s best friends in a coma. he can literally feel vecna in his head again. will’s barely hanging on by a goddamn thread as it is this boy is literally going through HELL!!! again!!
