bro the "suguru was a mama's boy" allegations are genuinely the dumbest thing in this entire fandom. yall will take one single picture and build a whole fanfiction about a character that doesn't even exist. let's actually look at the facts instead of making stuff up.
first off, one photo of him smiling on a phone call with his mom proves literally nothing. do you know how dumb that sounds? suguru is literally known for putting on a fake smile to make other people feel comfortable. he puts on a polite, gentle persona even when he is suffering on the inside because he’s a nice guy who hides his pain. seeing a stranger at the mall smiling at their phone doesn't mean they have an amazing relationship. for all we know, he was just relieved his mom wasn't starting an argument.
we literally know zero details about his childhood, except for one massive canon fact: his parents were non-sorcerers. that means he grew up completely isolated with parents who physically and mentally could not understand what he was going through. they had no idea he was seeing horrifying monsters or carrying an insane burden. they sent him away to jujutsu high and after that one phone call, we literally never hear from them again. we don't know their names, we don't know what they look like. they are so irrelevant to the plot that they only exist as a symbol of his past life.
and let's address him killing his parents. yes, he killed them. yes, objectively it’s bad, but let’s stop pretending it was done out of pure cruelty or hate. suguru’s entire core belief at that point was that non-sorcerers were the cause of curses, and to create a world where sorcerers don't die, non-sorcerers had to go. the sorcerers were his actual family. if he made an exception for his own parents just because they raised him, he would be a total hypocrite. he didn't do it because he hated his mom and dad specifically; he had a mission and a goal, and he didn't give himself special treatment. we don't need to overcomplicate it.
the truth is, every single adult in suguru’s life failed him. completely.
first, toji's bum ass ruined everything by trauma-dumping a high schooler and breaking his worldview.
then the higher-ups and the principals sent literal teenagers on death missions, separated him from his support system, and did zero follow-ups on his mental health.
then yuki—who is an actual adult sorcerer—comes in and instead of getting a struggling teenager help like a responsible adult, she drops a crazy philosophical idea about eradicating non-sorcerers and leaves him alone to spiral with it.
and then he goes to that village and literally sees two little girls trapped in a cage, starved and beaten by adults just for having cursed energy.
his entire life was seeing non-sorcerers abuse and kill kids like him over stuff they couldn't control. their son was on death missions, swallowing cursed spirits that literally taste like rags soaked in vomit, watching his friends die, and for what? for people who don't care if sorcerers live or die? so yeah, the village 100% deserved what happened to them even if it was objectively bad lol. non-sorcerers didn't care about kids like suguru, so why should he care about them?
and nobody gave that same care back to him. remember when gojo was going crazy and wanted to kill all the star religious cult members? suguru was the one who stopped him, acting like the voice of reason. suguru was the one reminding gojo not to overuse his technique and to get rest. he was constantly caring for others, but nobody stopped to check on him. nobody asked him about the physical and mental toll of his cursed technique.
and no, this isn't gojo's fault at all. gojo was just a kid too, dealing with his own massive trauma after dying and coming back to life. gojo actually noticed something was wrong when he asked if suguru lost weight, but gojo wasn't emotionally intelligent enough at the time to push deeper. and suguru himself would hate it if anyone blamed gojo, because he loved his friend. but it is wild that the higher-ups and the adults only cared after suguru snapped and took action.
was the way he went about things wrong? sure. but his motivation was for the protection and survival of his own people. just because someone does bad things doesn't mean their core intentions were evil. he wanted to stop sorcerers from dying for a society that didn't even appreciate them.
and if you look at the sequel and the rest of the story, suguru was literally proven right. nothing in jujutsu society actually changed for the better. sorcerers are still out here giving up their lives, dying young, and suffering for a non-sorcerer world that has no idea they exist and wouldn't care if they died.
like im so sick of people making up stuff about his parents and saying how he was his mama’s baby yes ofc the baby she sent out and couldn’t do anything for like come on i always skip fanfic of that.

and while we’re on the topic of ridiculous slander, let's talk about the people claiming "suguru was never actually nice and was just pretending the whole time." like... what kind of backward logic is that?
putting on a polite face or a warm smile when you’re tired, annoyed, or struggling inside just so you don't dump your bad mood on other people isn't being fake. that is literally what considerate, kind-hearted people do. he didn't want to burden others with his pain, so he put on a gentle persona. calling someone "fake" for trying to be polite and sweet to the people around them is wild.
and yeah, were suguru and gojo arrogant when they were teenagers? sure, in a funny, cocky high schooler kind of way. but can you blame them? they were literally the strongest duo in existence. logically speaking, non-sorcerers are weaker and constantly need protection from curses they create themselves. recognizing that fact as a teenager doesn't mean he was secretly an evil sociopath.
if suguru was so "fake nice," then explain his actual actions in the canon story:
he stood up for Riko's humanity saying they had to respect her wishes and let her live her life as a normal girl with her friends, even if it meant fighting tengen and jujutsu society themselves.
he checked gojo's ego, he was constantly reminding gojo to be polite, use proper manners, care about the weak, and not abuse his infinity or overexert himself. (i don’t think gojo is as arrogant as people say he’s literally the strongest he’s allowed to be cocky lol so suguru was just looking out for him)
in the beach episode he asks him not to overuse his power and get rest nobody else does that because they view gojo as weapon .
when haibara came to speak to geto in the bathroom asking what souvenirs to bring back from his mission suguru responded with that he was thinking to share with gojo so bring something sweet because gojo likes sweet things. like even in his lowest moment after the shower scene he was still thinking of his best friend.
he was so sensitive and empathetic to the point that all of that was too much for him, like imagine knowing your not cared for by people your protecting and seeing them harm people you care about .
like the sound of the non sources clapping for riko’s death stuck with him forever.
and even after he snapped and chose his dark path, he was STILL sweet, loving, and deeply caring to his actual people the sorcerers. he never treated his family with anything short of genuine warmth:
he literally adopted mimiko and nanako, saved them from an abusive village, gave them a home, fed them, bought them cute clothes, and raised them like his own daughters. (gege confirmed  this )
he treated his entire cult family with respect, gentle affection, and love. he never raised his voice at them, insulted them, or abused his power over them. nor did he force his ideals on anyone.
he was only ever cruel to non-sorcerers—the ones he saw as the source of all sorcerer suffering. to his own kind, he was nothing but a protective, loving leader.
and let’s be real about his ideology: suguru never forced his ideals on other sorcerers. he didn't go around hunting down gojo or nanami or shoko to make them agree with him. he set his goal, built his family, and said "if you stand in my way, i will fight you." guess what? that’s literally how every war or conflict in human history works. he had a boundary, and he defended it.
at the end of the day, NONE of this would have happened if the system hadn't systematically broken him down:
if toji's bum ass hadn't traumatized him and literally shot a middle school girl in front of his eyes.
if yuki hadn't dropped high-level radical philosophy on a vulnerable, depressed kid and then bounced without checking on him.
if he had an outlet or a break from his cursed technique, instead of having to swallow literal vomit-tasting curses every single day alone.
if the adults hadn't constantly split him and gojo up, sending him on solo death missions while his friends kept dying around him.
everything that happened to him was the direct result of a corrupt, careless system and adults failing him completely. that's why i don't blame him at all. and you know who else doesn't? gege akutami literally confirmed that nanami doesn't blame suguru either, because nanami recognized that suguru was just a kid who was never offered help or proper support when he was drowning.
so no, he wasn't "fake nice," he wasn't evil for the sake of being evil, and he wasn't a bad person at heart. he was a kind, empathetic guy who gave everything to protect people until the world broke him, and then he devoted his entire life to protecting the only people who actually mattered to him. period.
