     Off in the distance, there was an echoing sound of loud popping. Gunshots didn’t echo, which could only mean that someone was popping fireworks in the middle of November. Lev glanced upward and around, to no avail, but he was overcast with a sudden curiosity.「 Fireworks…leftover from Tanabata, maybe? I thought that fireworks go bad after a while, though… 」

·····“It is a bit odd, isn’t it?”·

·····She hadn’t quite meant to listen in on the other person’s commentary, but she couldn’t help but agree with it. This wasn’t quite the season for fireworks, after. Maybe they were being set off for someone’s birthday...?

·····She was drawn out of her thoughts by the realization of what she had just done. “Ah, sorry, I didn’t mean to butt in like that...”

     It wasn’t like she liked to make a habit of walking around unfamiliar areas, but... Well, sometimes it just happened. One moment, she was on her way over to the train station, the next she was in the middle of uncharted territory.

     She hadn’t begun to panic quite yet, but as time wore on she grew more and more nervous. She had already missed the train she had meant to leave on, what if she couldn’t find the station until the last train home had already left?

     Out of the corner of her eye she noticed someone else- around her age, if she wasn’t mistaken. As embarrassed about the situation as she was, she figured it was better to ask for help than be stuck there overnight. 

     “I, um, excuse me? Do you happen to know how to get to the train station from here...?”

    “Find my balance, that should be easy.” Kenta mumbled as he pushed himself up off the ice. Immediately, he threw his arms up to steady himself. Taking note of making sure to take your time while getting up, so next time he doesn’t throw off his balance, he began to push off once again.

    The boy made sure to keep himself close to the wall in case he needed it. Hard to believe, this wasn’t his first time on the ice, but that was about ten years ago, and he wasn’t any good back then either. To be honest, he always wanted to try and learn how to actually skate and not land on either his ass or his face.

    It took him a few laps to actually keep himself steady and move farther away from the wall. By the tenth lap, he made his way over to Minako, a smile stretched across his face. “I think I’m actually getting the hang of this.”

     She had been spending most of the time practicing her own skills, as well as keeping an eye on Kenta to make sure all was well. There really wasn’t too much that he could mess up, but she felt the need to make sure.

     It felt like it had been ages since she had been on the ice herself, and it was nice to be back, even if it wasn’t for her sake. She couldn’t quite do any of her old programs with someone else on the ice, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t practice anything. For the most part, that meant just doing a few jumps here and there (simple ones, of course- it had been too long for her to try anything too difficult just yet) , but it was better than nothing.

     “Not too bad, not too bad!” Minako grinned when Kenta made his way over to her. She hadn’t been expecting him to catch on this quickly, and was pleasantly surprised. “I’ll admit though, I don’t really know what else to teach you today... Was there something specific you wanted to learn, or?”

     As he held the magazine in his hands, he began flipping its pages, scanning articles until one would catch his eye. He could always buy this magazine at a different store near his school next time if he wanted to thoroughly read it. The teams that were featured were familiar, from the usual ones like Itachiyama, Shiratorizawa… to teams whose status was steadily rising. His eyes blinked when he saw Karasuno as one of those teams.

     He internally rolled his eyes. It was actually about time they became featured. They made tremendous progress over months, especially after that fateful training camp. But he stopped his internal monologue as he felt like the girl beside him was looking at him out of curiosity.

     Akaashi averted his attention from the magazine to the other as he gave a nod at her inquiry. “Indeed I am,” he replied. And since she knew about his team– “Are you part of a volleyball team as well?”

      It was an obvious question- after all, not many people were well versed in high school volleyball besides those involved in it- but it still threw her off for a second. 

     “Ah, yes, I am. Er, sort of... I’m the team manager for Ōkami High School.” She laughed a bit and glanced back down at the magazines in front of them. Hopefully he didn’t know how much of a... joke they had become, for lack of a better word. Sure, she thought they were pretty good now, but she also knew that their reputation was less than glowing. “They’re an interesting group, that’s for sure.”

     “Sorry if I’m intruding, it’s kind of my job to research other teams, so when I saw your jersey...” She glanced back over to him and shrugged. “I don’t get to meet a lot of people from other teams, so I just got a bit excited.”

     “Fall properly?!” That was the last thing Kenta would want to do, but he knew that he wouldn’t be able to avoid it. Already on the ice he felt out of place and that any sudden movements would have him end up flat on his face, so maybe learning how to fall properly wasn’t such a bad idea.

     “Yeah, easy peasy.” But not so easy at all, nobody wanted to fall, even on regular ground. Slowly, the boy started to gain some momentum as he moved his feet. As the turn was coming up much quickly than anticipated, he did just as he described, dropping down onto his knee, his hand following to catch him. Sliding slightly, he stopped not too far from the wall, finally breathing out a sigh of relief.

                                   “You mean like that? Did I do well?” 

         “Yeah yeah, just like that!” It wasn’t like it was the coolest thing in the world, but she was glad that it went well regardless. After all, had he done it wrong and gotten hurt... Not only would the lesson have been over much sooner than anticipated, he would have also had to deal with it during practice, and no one wanted that. “Just use your hands to push yourself back up.” 

         She glided over to him, giving him a thumbs up as she did. Initially she had been a bit hesitant when the topic of teaching him to skate came up, but he seemed so excited to learn that she was glad she had agreed. Who knows, maybe these lessons would give her an excuse to have more practice time herself. “Now it’s mostly a matter of you getting comfortable on the ice. So we’ll just skate around for a bit until you find your balance and all that.”
