LADYBUG lifted his head off of Reed's chest. He stifled a yawn and blinked blearily. It hadn't been his intention to take a nap on his lover while the other man read in the temporarily shared bed. LADYBUG's bright blues flicked down. After a moment, he grinned, pulled the edge of Reed's shirt over his stomach, and leaned over to place a kiss on his belly. ❝Hello,❞ he murmured. LADYBUG wrapped his arm around the bottom of Reed's bump. His cheek settled gently against it, soaking in the warmth of his skin and the feeling of their child — their impossible, wonderful dream - child. ❝Hello to both of you ... shit. As much as Reed enjoyed their moments of talking- even if it was mostly Reed rambling about some tech he was figuring out and LADYBUG kindly listening intently- or doing something within the confines of their private moments like watching a movie or cooking together- mostly LADYBUG and H.E.R.B.I.E. cooking and Reed watching fondly- he realized how much he loved these little moments they weren't ever truly afforded. His fingers tenderly carded through LADYBUG's hair as he slept, and the warmth and weight of the other man on him was all he needed to feel so content.

His attention was only pulled from the book he had been reading- truthfully he had been reading anything baby related since finding out about the little one growing inside of him, and that night's read was You and Your Baby- when he felt the other stir.

The ghost of a smile pulled at his lips and he rested his hand against the side of LADYBUG's neck, the pad of his thumb stroking against the jut of his jaw.

"Only about an hour or so. Seemed like you needed it, though."

"Aw, we don't have to bother him," came Kal's easy response. With no effort at all he hefted Reed up, guiding him to wrap his legs around his waist, and lifted gently off the floor.

"I can make us something, Reed."

He floated easily towards the kitchen, and with a soft sigh watched the sky as it began to change colour. The sun was in the process of rising-- this early in the morning, he was confident they could go through a whole breakfast routine without Clark Kent being late for work later.

Kal's feet met the floor by the stool in the kitchen island. After setting Reed down, he made his way to the fridge, humming as he pulled out a carton of eggs and some meat and vegetables from past dinners.

"How about a leftover omelette?" he asked, setting everything out for Reed's perusal. He looked up to meet the man's gaze with a grin. "You can tell me all about your busy morning while I cook."

"That sounds delicious," he hummed gratefully, despite the fact he rarely ever had breakfast. Though, it was more so because he constantly forgot to take care of himself. "Oh, it wasn't much. Simply replacing some lightbulbs and filters. I find it's better I do it before I actually start working in the lab..."

As Kal began to cook their breakfast, Reed let out a content sigh as he watched him. Propping his chin up with the palm of his hand, he finally uttered gently, "You actually find joy in doing for others, don't you?"

Reed had finally figured out why it was so easy being with Kal in truly any capacity- it was because he was honest in everything he did. Reed didn't have to read between the lines or figure out whether he was crossing his arms over his chest because he was angry with Reed or not. Everything he did and said was open and honest. There were no guessing games. And Reed, well, he adored Kal all the more for it.

"While you're cooking, do you want me to get us our drinks? I can make us coffee or we have milk if you'd prefer that? Probably some juice, too."

Kal's response was a low "mhm", muffled and low as he pressed his lips to Reed's once more. Despite waking the moment Reed slipped out of bed, Kal pretended to keep sleeping and allowed him about half an hour of privacy before finding him-- a loyal dog to the end.

"What is it people say about good sleep and exercise..." Dipping his head lower, Kal kissed the corner of Reed's jaw. Having had a taste of his skin only moments earlier, however, he allowed his hands to creep up the hem of his shirt and fit over Reed's waist.

Kisses were trailed down Reed's neck, and then back up to his mouth. "After last night's workout" -- of sorts -- "I slept like a baby.

"What've you been up to this morning? You know, besides tower maintenance." Pulling back, Kal raised a brow. "Normally people'd have breakfast first, you know."

A dreamy sigh flowed through Reed's nostrils as Kal's lips and hands settled upon him once more. His arms loosely curled around the taller man's neck and pressed in somewhat tightly.

Truthfully, Reed had never thought physical intimacy was something that could make him feel so incredible. He loved Sue and he knew Sue loved him, but she had been right that their marriage wasn't right for either of them. And, fortunately, it had been incredibly amicable in the end, to the point that not much had changed in their relationship.

Sue had seen how Reed was with Kal- it was her pointing out that he'd never been so visibly happy as he was when he was spending time with him that made Reed realize perhaps there was more than scientific curiosity there- and he was grateful he could explore this with the Kryptonian.

He had opened his mouth to elaborate on his morning events- all of which were tower maintenance and inventory of his work station. As Kal continued, though, Reed raised a hand to scratch at the back of his neck.

"Oh... right, breakfast." Reed paused momentarily as his brain attempted to catch up with the conversation. "Do you have any favorites? I could have H.E.R.B.I.E. make it for us..."

The I'm incapable of cooking hung in the air as he looked off to the side almost bashfully.

Reed let out a soft gasp as he felt lips press to his lower back. Perhaps he hadn't thought about just how much he had stretched himself out in order to change the lightbulb and how little of his back his shirt managed to cover. Though, as he saw the playful glint in the younger man's eyes as he moved to find the culprit, he couldn't help but chuckle himself.

"Well, good morning to you, too, Kal," he cooed playfully as he returned to his normal height. Well, almost normal height. He saves a few inches to press his lips to Superman's before actually doing so. "Did you sleep well?"

Superman hadn't been sure what to expect when he was invited to the Fantastic Four's special tower, but any potential to assist him in his language work was definitely the farthest thing from his mind. "Oh-- that's very kind, Reed. Thank you for the suggestion."

He was quiet for a few seconds, rolling that offer around in his head, and nodded once.

"I'll keep that in mind, but for now I'm happy to continue as I have been. I'm not against slow and steady."

Was it overprotectiveness? Uncertainty? Some selfishness thinking of anyone else cracking the stories of his people besides him, when his parents so clearly wanted him to discover this legacy for himself? These were questions Kal-El would have to consider later alone, not when he had to be Superman in front of someone as lauded as Mr. Fantastic.

"The Silver Surfer... that was the woman who arrived with Galactus all those months ago, wasn't it?" Superman's head tilted curiously. He could remember the footage as clear as day-- had seen it on the television whilst his TV dinner cooked in the microwave, heart hammering in his chest because there were other aliens on Earth. "You took that rocket out to meet with them, didn't you?

"Do you remember how far you all went? If I may ask."

"Slow and steady is always a valid method," Reed responded, adding a, "It's an open invitation, as well, though. Actually, I feel it's safe to assume that anything offered to you will have an outstanding offer to you, regardless of whether you end up agreeing at some point or not."

Reed had been slightly taken aback by the inquiry, not used to people asking about the aspects of their travels that interested himself the most.

H.E.R.B.I.E. beeped several times to let them know that he was going to go assist Ben in the kitchen, and Reed thanked him for his assistance before sitting up straighter.

"LHS-275 was approximately 40.3 light-years away. We were, very fortunately, able to make most of the return trip home before we lost access to what made our trip so quick, comparatively. We had used Excelsior, a Faster-Than-Light Engine that utilizes wormholes so it..." Reed was beginning to ramble again, though, it was easy to do when he was as excited as he was in that moment.

Rein it in, Reed, he heard his imaginary Sue say. If he wants to ask questions about it, he will.

An awkward smile pulled slightly more at his lips as he met Superman's gaze once more. He considered how the man stated his powers came from the yellow sun. "It's good you ended up here rather than a planet such as that, given it's a red dwarf that it orbited."

Permission given, Superman was more than comfortable taking the seat offered to him. A deft stroke of his arm had his cape swept to the side as he sat, and with a straight posture and slightly parted legs, his hands landed gently atop his lap.

The questions, at least, were easy, reminiscent of the questions he answered for Ms. Lane the week prior. It was easy to say that he was an alien from the now-destroyed planet Krypton, and that he'd landed on Earth in a pod his birth parents made for him as a baby (even if, respectfully, he wasn't sharing that landing location).

Similarly, Superman was comfortable enough saying he got his powers from Earth's yellow sun, granting him-- to his knowledge-- invulnerability, accelerated healing, the ability to fly, enhanced strength, supernatural five senses-- heat, X-ray, infrared, microscopic, and telescopic vision included-- and even a heightened perception leading to better reflexes.

"I found out I could blow air out stronger than normal a couple of days ago," he said, smiling proudly all the while. "I haven't tested how strong the winds can get, though, or if I have that same enhanced capability in reverse.

"it's possible the records my parents included in my pod have more answers about myself, but I can't decipher everything yet." Superman shook his head. "I've been studying Kryptonese for almost a decade, but it's slow-going when the only way I can learn is reverse-engineering everything I came with.

"To be honest" -- Superman's hand came up, rubbing lightly at the side of his neck -- "I've been prioritising the historical and cultural information they gave me over all the biological, power-related stuff. I can always find out more about my powers through trial and error-- learning about home doesn't come quite as naturally."

As impartial as Reed always attempted to be in his studies, he was incapable of stifling the excitement bubbling in his gut. An entity such as Superman should be impossible, and yet, here he was, answering nearly every question he could pose to him as if he were being asked his favorite color, movie, and band- which, technically, he was.

And as he elaborated on his capabilities, Reed was already silently designing a wind-chamber that would withstand the highest recorded speeds.

Reed continued to enthusiastically scribble down his notes, though, as the man before him began to discuss his missing culture and difficulty with translation, his mind immediately fell to his brother-in-law.

"Perhaps Johnny can aid you with translating. He's an exceptional Philologist, even with alien languages. Believe it or not, it's a rather large contributing factor as to how he was able to get through to the Silver Surfer in the end."

Reed paused and offered a subtle but warm smile to Superman.

"If you'd care to have assistance in that capacity, of course."

It was different hearing Mr. Fantastic talk on the television and in the real world. Superman found it difficult to keep up, almost, but he smiled all the same.

"Reed." The man's name, short as it was, came as simply as it did warmly. "It's nice to meet you.

"I'm sure I should be able to stay for an hour or two on weekdays." Nodding to himself, Superman turned that into a promise, regardless of whether Reed took it seriously or not. It wasn't everyday the leader of the team that inspired his own attempts at heroism asked for his time, even if it was for research. "And on weekends I can definitely stay for dinner."

Hand lifting, Superman rubbed lightly at the back of his neck. "I really appreciate the open invitation. And I can't think of anything you can do to me that I'd hate..."

Entering Mr. Fantastic's lab, Superman's voice trailed off. The place looked nothing like Superman expected, but only because it looked like more. It almost resembled a more human version of what his birth parents left him through his Fortress-- in the same way that the latter represented the heights of Kryptonian science, Reed Richards' lab evoked the remarkable science of Earth.

Superman's awe left him in a soft breath. "Golly...

"Did you make all of this yourself?" Without any instructions to sit, he remained standing, careful not to touch anything without permission. Even his motion was limited in an attempt to keep his cape from swooping. "This is incredible." Turning in place, Superman looked through all those panels and components with that uncanny X-ray vision. "And the intricacy of these designs...

"They really weren't kidding when they said you were the smartest man in America, were they?"

Reed felt a sense of pride begin to bubble up in his chest, grinning subtly and almost bashfully as his guest began to praise the lab. "Oh, well, I did have some help from the team- H.E.R.B.I.E. too," he added, gesturing to the robot rolling in with a tray of various tools Reed would need to run tests later on. The robot beeped and raised a claw upwards in a sort of wave before moving to the side.

But the young man continued to praise him, and he felt his cheeks warm.

Ducking his head sheepishly and fingers toying with each other, he let out a soft laugh. "Well, I'd like to think I'm at least one of the smartest men in America," he murmured in a low, shy voice.

Clearing his throat, he forced himself up straight before looking at his guest once more.

"Please, take a seat whenever you're ready, Superman. We can start this as soon as you'd like. Again, you can stop me at any time or skip anything you're uncomfortable with."

Reed sat in the chair across from the one by where he gestured for the other, setting the clipboard with small stack of papers and several pens on the mobile desk he was to work on. The questionnaire contained a multitude of questions, starting off with the basics such as what he knows of his own capabilities, weaknesses, strengths, and knowledge of his home planet, then diving into more specifics of each component. He wanted to ensure he was as detailed in his research as possible, while also still ensuring Superman's autonomy in his answers.

I don't mind other people knowing lingered, for just a moment, on the tip of Superman's tongue. Mr. Richards had spoken not only at a breakneck pace, but with a volume of words that gave the impression of a verbal tidal wave.

He rubbed lightly at the side of his neck, smiling sheepishly. "It's not that I'd dislike you looking into things... I'd just have to pencil things into my calendar.

"I've got a 9 to 5 job, Mr. Richards." To say he felt foolish for saying something so mundane would be an understatement. Who met the leader of the Fantastic Four and said I'd rather go to my job than hang out with you?

Clearing his throat, Superman's hand dropped, joining its partner as he linked them in front of himself once more. "Much as it'd be an honour to stay for a couple of days, tomorrow is a Monday.

"But I can come over after work for as many days as you need me to." Following after the other man, Superman's gait took him forward until he was right behind where Reed stood. "If there's anything you can tell me about myself, I'd appreciate it more than I can say."

"Oh, I suppose I should have taken that into account- my apologies if I've impeded on any plans you might have had for the day, or, any days for that matter. Truthfully, I'm grateful you're allowing me this at all. Whenever you'd like to swing by, the lab is open for research," Reed's quick to say as he glanced at his guest from over his shoulder. As he gestured to the seat near his work station for the extraterrestrial to sit, he also added, "I suppose I should've mentioned there's an invitation for dinner, as well. I understand if you're unable to attend as it's last minute. Though, I do so hope you can attend."

The rise of the corners of his lips were subtle, but nonetheless there as met the other's eyes once more.

It was almost strange looking at the other man so closely. Had he crossed him on the street, Reed would have never suspected him to be not of this Earth. He had a handsome face and nice hair, incredibly kind eyes- Reed couldn't help but wonder what the others of his species looked like.

Realizing he was staring a bit- Johnny had been more than happy to point this apparent flaw out- Reed cleared his throat and patted the man on his shoulder.

"Also, you can just call me Reed. I feel as though we can forego any formalities considering how intimately I'm going to know you."

Moving to his work station, he figured it was best to start with the questionnaire before moving onto collecting samples and running tests.

"I'll be certain to explain everything before I do it so you are fully aware of what is going to transpire. Should anything make you uncomfortable, please let me know and we'll negate it. Are there any limitations you'd like to set up front?"

"Can I study you?" The words might not have been the most polite, but the excitement behind them was obvious, if the eagerness in his tone and the twinkling in his eyes were any indicator. It wasn't every day you came across an alien, let alone one that looked as human as he did.

Superman blinked, and then with a little chuckle gave a nod of his head. His hands were folded neatly in front of him as he stood comfortably on the balcony of the Fantastic Four's building, boots spaced apart just so to keep his centre of balance.

"Sure, Mr. Richards," he said. "What do you need me to do?"

He'd made his first rescue in Metropolis about a week ago-- a story that sensationalised the papers and the television in a way that made him halfway towards shy. Lois Lane, intrepid reporter that she was, had covered the interview front almost instantly. When he'd gotten the news that the Fantastic Four of New York City wanted to meet with him, it had been the biggest honour in the world.

"And will I have to stay more than a day?"

Reed had begun to turn into the lab, hand raised to gesture for the man to follow him, when he paused once more.

He pivoted on his heel to look at the younger man once more, unable to help the ecstatic glint in his eyes. Brows raised and lips ticked slightly upwards, Reed's hand folded in front of himself.

"I initially only had a basic panel for rudimentary observations that would likely take only a few hours," Reed had started to explain. "Though, if you're offering to stay for an extended period, I'd very much like to do a full work up. Especially considering you're the last of your people, I feel it'd be incredibly important to understand your anatomy and physiology as deeply as possible, both for the sake of knowledge and your own longevity.

"That being said, of course, I feel it's important to note that this information will only be accessible by myself and colleagues, as well as you."

As he paused, he looked towards the door then back at Superman once more.

"Would you be opposed to a more extensive study?"
