#WIP On the needles today is my first attempt at colorwork, a hat for my 6 year old nephew’s birthday using his favorite color as he calls it, “John Deere Green” 😂 My little Soutern Boy! I’m learning a lot on this piece and I’ve made a few mistakes I’ll know “what not to do” on my next colorwork piece. I wish I could find a good tutorial on how to avoid jagging where the colorwork meets in the round. Any knitting pros out there have any suggestions?

Here are a couple ways for the jogless color changes. They are always a challenge till you find your favorite method.

When I was in the swap I posted about a couple days ago my partner was lucky enough to be able to take off for a spontaneous vacation to the Bahamas. What a lucky girl, right?! I wanted to make her a gift for her box that would remind her of her stay there. So I thought a set of hot pads of the Bahamas sun.
While these would have been perfectly cute and perfectly fine, me being me, I just couldn’t leave it at that. Even though I was going to make her a set of 4 (or 6) to use. I wanted her to have something for her next escape that she could use on the beach. Or something she could use this winter when we are all covered in snow so she could carry the sunshine around with her. My solution came in the shape of a bag.
Making the bag is pretty simple. You start out with my go to mandala pictured above. That lovely sunshine. I have no idea where the pattern for it came from. I know it by heart. If you know where it originated please let me know and I will gladly give credit here.
I’ve included pictures of what each round will look like. Sometimes it just helps to know what you should be looking at as you go. If you want the picture free version of the pattern you can download it in the printables sections or through the button below.

Misc. Notions: 5 Stitch Markers (one of a different color to mark the start of your round is highly recommended) Darning Needle
Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter I used just under half of the “Big Ball” Approx. 180g Chain 3, Join with sl st to first ch.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) 1dc, ch1, in circle, *2 dc, ch 1 in same space* repeat from * to* 4 more times. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. 12 dc
Round 2: sl st in next dc and into next ch-sp, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) 1dc, ch1, dc2tog, in same space *ch1, into the next space dc2tog, ch1, dc2tog* repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
Round 3: sl st in next dc and into next ch-sp, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) 2 dc, ch 1, in same space *3dc, ch 1 in next sp* repeat * to * around join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
Round 4: sl st in next 2 dc and into next ch-sp, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) 2 dc, ch 1, in same space *3dc, ch 1 in next sp* repeat * to * around join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
Round 5: sl st in next 2 dc and into next ch-sp, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, in same space *3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1 in next ch-sp* repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3
Rounds 6 – 28: repeat round 4 (You wont notice it turn until after round 7. During round 8 you’ll begin to notice a slight curve happening. Round 9 it becomes more pronounced)
Place marker in first stitch.
Round 29: ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-sp around, join with sl st to ch-1
Round 30: ch 1, *sc, ch 1, sk 1* repeat * to * around. (drawstring holes made), join with sl st to ch-1
Round 31: ch 1, sc each sc and ch-sp around, join with sl st to ch-1
Round 32: ch 1, sc around, join with sl st to ch-1
Place remaining 4 markers at every 25th stitch starting 3 stitches from the starting marker.
Round 33: Ch 1, sc in first 3 st, make 30 fsc (move st marker to first fsc), join at stitch marker (move second st marker to last fsc), sc to next stitch marker, make 30 fsc (move third st marker to first fsc), join at next st marker (move fourth st marker to last fsc). sc to end of round.
Round 34: ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, sc2tog, move st marker, sc across the handle to the 2nd st marker, sc2tog, move st marker, sc to one st before 3rd st marker, sc2tog, move st marker, sc across handle to the 4th st marker, sc2tog, move st marker, sc to end of rnd. Sl st to ch-1 to join.
Round 35: ch 1, sc in first sc, sc2tog, remove st marker, sc across the handle to the 2nd st marker, sc2tog, remove st marker, sc to one st before 3rd st marker, sc2tog, remove st marker, sc across handle to the 4th st marker, sc2tog, remove st marker, sc to end of rnd. Sl st to ch-1 to join.
Cut and weave in ends
Make a chain 2” longer than your bag is round. Weave through your drawstring holes. Ties ends together. You can use a decorative beads or buttons to add weight to the lines.
Enjoy carrying your goods knowing that happy sunshine from round 5 is down in the bottom of your bag supporting your load. J
Notes
On Round 33-35 the stitch markers referred to as 1-4 are in regards to your handle markers, not the starting row marker.
Foundation Single Crochet (fsc) is started by inserting your hook into last sc worked and pick up a loop, yo, pull through one loop, yarn over and pull through two loops as usual to work a single crochet.
That extra chain you made will be where you will make your next fsc into. Insert your hook under the v it made and pick up a loop, yarn over pull through, yarn over and pull through one loop, yarn over and pull through two as usual.

Bahamas Escape Bag When I was in the swap I posted about a couple days ago my partner was lucky enough to be able to take off for a spontaneous vacation to the Bahamas.
I have had a very busy couple of weeks! I designed a set of curtains about a month and a half ago. The design itself took about two weeks to get just the way I wanted it. Then I put it in testing and have had a couple of wonderful ladies testing them out for me. It has been a very long beta (just over a month) but totally worth it. The last couple of weeks have been spent wrapping up the beta, finalizing the charts, getting the pattern all written out and finally listing it on Ravelry for sale.
I am an avid coffee drinker. If a person could survive on coffee alone, I probably would. As I sit here now, coffee beside me, typing this, I can easily agree that I would indeed go on a diet of coffee alone if it was possible.
My family and friends all know that when you drop by my house you will always find a pot brewing and ready conversation at my kitchen table. So why not advertise it on the windows, right?
These curtains originally started out for basement windows. I was in need of curtains for the summer kitchen in my basement. They have evolved into curtains to cover the windows in a standard kitchen as the beta went on for them. My testers were amazing. I wanted them to be able to enjoy them year round in their kitchens so I developed the spacer you will find in the pattern. You can make the spacers and seam them on like one of my lovely testers did, use them as a panel, or whatever you want. It’s up to you!
If you would like to make the valance wider you can do that. I have added instructions on how to alter the pattern to adjust the valance to better fit your window if it is wider than the measurements listed below.
Materials Needed: 1.5 mm Hook Red Heart Classic Crochet Thread – Size 10 (approx. 1300 yds)
Gauge: 7 sts x 4 rows per inch
Finished Measurements (without tabs – tabs add 2”): Panels: 17”W x 16”L Large Valance: 36”W x 11.75”L Small Valance: 36”W x 9.5”L Spacer(s) (vertical bean pictured): 6”W x 16”L
The set is actually quite large. You get two panels, 2 sizes of a valance to choose from, spacers to add to the panels to make it wider to fit wider windows, the valance can be customized to make it wider to fit your window.
