Pack Legacy Challenge, Gen 1, Part 5
Norah spends some time talking to the woman who lives on this land. In so many ways, it feels like she's living the dream! She lives out in the woods, out in nature, and she can collect bugs and go fishing and not run into a single suburban home along the way!
As they fish together, the hermit tells her more about her life. How it's peaceful and quiet and the only people who come by are people who are brave enough to go through a bramble.
"No weak-willed city slickers out here," the hermit says confidently... but it's the first thing that rings a little bit hollow for Norah. Sure, she isn't a weak-willed city slicker... but she is in love with one.
As the sun sets, she realizes she left him behind. She's hardly spent time with him all day, and this vacation was meant to be for the two of them!
When she finally makes it back to camp, the sun has set, and Isaiah is eating burgers all by himself. Burgers, plural. Norah feels horrible. Sure, the life she saw today would be nice... but she also doesn't want to have a life without her best friend being an integral part of it.
She tries to make it up to him. They light a campfire and she points out all of the stars and constellations that are easier to see out here because of the lack of light pollution.
She asks him if he can possibly forgive her for ditching him for the whole day.
He forgives her, of course.
He really, really forgives her.
In fact, the next morning, he asks if the two of them should start living together. And maybe things are moving a little fast, but Norah's sure of the future she wants to have with him now. She doesn't want to be a hermit - she wants to live alongside the love of her life, even if that means compromising on where they'll live together. But for Isaiah? It's worth it.
