I am not much into heroes. The whole concept is a bit suspect to me, in narrative and in life. I lean Le Guin, I suppose. I profoundly understand how leadership qualities in some beings are useful to the group, I just don't think they are more important than other beautiful being qualities, also useful. But this singular human was more important to me privately, personally, than my parents, to be honest, if by important we might mean something to live for, something to love. I admired her life force, her life choices, her living and being more than any other human on the planet, I think. Count me among the legions of humans who feel the world is a little less of the best humans have to give without her. I feel gratitude. I feel love. I feel strangely bereft, whether or not I have a right to. I feel we have a moral obligation to thread her lifesong into our hearts as a reminder that being human must mean being in relation to all other being.
