Wanna know how bad cannabis is?
It’s so bad it’ll have you takin 30 minutes to just microwave three hotdogs cause ya first opening the sandwich bread instead of the buns cause you to busy thinking about existence and sht. Takes 10 minutes just to add the ketchup and mustard. 🤦♀️
Then takin another 20 minutes just to sit down and pick somethin to watch on Netflix then just starin at your plate like oh right, I was eating.

Where is my Love?
Stydia scene 5x16 // analysed
Hi, yes, I did record this scene for the sake of this post. No, I’m not crazy, I prefer the term obsessed.
Anyway.
So, this is a really important turning point for their relationship. Everyone knows it, even the ones who don’t ship it. Like, just looking at it as someone who has never seen the show, can tell they care for each other, quite deeply.
The video has no sound, since you need to pay for the premium edition of Screencast-O-Matic and I am not going to pay for something dumb as sound. But, because there is no sound, your attention will more go to the facial expressions of everyone, and not the music and voices.
So, let’s begin.
00:16 - 00:18
It’s short, but definitely symbolises something. You see Scott staring at himself in the cracked mirror. It can either mean that Lydia is broken, which states the obvious. OR, that Scott is falling apart, breaking into a million pieces losing himself. He has lost so many people, people have died and he felt like he could prevented it but he was too late. So now, one of his best and only friends might die, he is desperate. I think the broken mirror represents how Scott is feeling at that moment.
00:30 - 00:42
Stiles’ ear is bleeding, and Lydia says when Stiles reassures her (”You’re gonna make it”) “But you’re not.”
I feel like this is major foreshadowing for season six. Perhaps he might die, but as said in the show, something worse than death will happen to them. Being forgotten is probably worse than dying, since they’ve all experienced a near death experience at some point.
- At the clinic -
It is never explained why he puts mistletoe is the hole. Like what does it help other than filling it in? We know that mistletoe only brought bad things with them, as seen in season 3, so what purpose does it have for holes in heads or banshees? Whatever, she’s alive.
1:34 - 1:42
After her final scream, Stiles covers her up with his flannel to protect her from the glass. I think that is a wonderfull example of caring for someone to an extent some people might never reach. Do realise she might have some frequency still coming out of her that is deadly to Stiles, but he comes closer to her, making sure she doesn’t get hurt. It’s also a nice parallel with the birds in season three. If you don’t know what I’m talking about:
1:51 - 2:53 (back to the first video)
First of all, I don’t think you realise how hard it is to pull of a scene that great. I’m an actress (on stage, not on tv or something) and it. is. hard. The emotion that Dylan needed to put in that single scene was immense and can be draining, really. So congratulations.
Now, you can see the pain, desperation, everything is his eyes. When I recorded the scene, I was thinking of a certain scene in 2x12 when Lydia visits Stiles and he yells at her that if she dies, he will literally go out of his freaking mind.
And you saw it, he was on the verge of insanity. You saw he was holding back tears, you felt there was a lump in his throat. You could see all his emotions just in that one little scene, a scene that makes me cry every single time, just because it’s so raw.
You can also see, in the beginning, he is confused, not entirely sure what’s happening. He glances at Scott, silently asking for help. But this time, it isn’t something supernatural, it’s human. Perhaps that’s what makes this scene so beautiful. In the midst of it all, there is an almost death.
The fact that he is indenial makes it so sad.”You have to open your eyes, Lydia” “Wake up”, it’s like he is trying to do what he did in season three. Waking up from the nightmare. Lydia dying is his nightmare. He is trying to wake himself up.
2:29 - 2:32
I’d like to focus on Scott for a minute. He has been in this situation before. Only it was Allison. Allison, his first love. It’s a déjà vû for him, he knows what’s bound to happen. I can’t help but feel that, after Lydia wakes up, he is jealous of Stiles, beacuse he still has the girl he loves right there. Also, I wonder how strong and loaded Stiles’ scent must’ve been. Scott can smell emotions, so I can’t imagine smelling Stiles’ at that moment. Perhaps that’s why he is looking away, it’s too much for him to handle.
2:43 - 2:50
Relief, that’s all I can say for Stiles. Just that look on his face. I can parallel it with when you’re on top of a rollercoaster, and that first drop. You feel it in the pit of your stomache. It’s a second before you start screaming of joy. It’s that: feeling all the adrenaline rush over you. He looks like that when she opens her eyes.
Some seconds after that you see him gulping, and that’s what I said earlier about the tears almost coming out, the lump in his throat. I wonder what had happened if she did die. Would it be a parallel to Scott and Allison (and Liam and Hayden) or would they have their entire own scene? I think it would be the latter, since they are different from the rest, relationship-wise. I’d rather not think of what he would do, to be honest. Probably seeking revenge.
3:02 - 3:18
Ah, the ultimate moment. When they look into their eyes. No, all mushy stuff aside, this is a look exchanged between best friends of pure care, empathy and love. I honestly don’t care for a moment about their ship, romantically. Just look.
Look at that smile Lydia is giving him. She was out for a minute, but when she opens her eyes, he is there. He was always there for her. Also, little detail, when Stiles glances up at someone, Scott I think, on 3:06, they don’t divert the camera to that character. It stays on Stiles. Because it’s all about him and Lydia.
What I am going to rant about though is that there hands were basically morphed together. I think it was so appropriate. Not a kiss or a hug, it was two hands combined. It held this innocence and intimacy at the same time. Because he held her hand and she willingly tightened the grip around his. They were entangled, connected.
Where did we hear that before? Hmmm…
Teen Wolf is also known for zooming in on seeminly irrelevant things. They could’ve given us an overal view of the sitution, yet they zoomed in on the hands. A sign that their relationship, friendship or romantic (I don’t give a fuck), has evolved into something so deep you, as a viewer, can feel it through you screen.
3:26
Deaton and Scott back away, so it’s just Stiles and her in the shot. It’s as if they knew they needed their time. And Lydia only looked at him.
3:31 - 3:39
I’d like to point out that this is one of the rare scenes Lydia and her mother actually see each other, acknowledge each other. Family is such a huge part of Teen Wolf, yet Lydia isn’t an active participant. Now, it feels like they closed a chapter. Lydia and her mom finally understand each other.
3:41 - 3:48
We see Scott and Deaton silently thanking Stiles, but he isn’t fazed by it.
Until:
3:49 - 4:00
“He saved me, mom”
“Stiles saved me”
Just before that, she gives him a little smile, as if saying she is finally giving him something no one has ever given him: a thank you.
All throughout the show, Stiles has done so many things without ever receiving the gratitude he deserves. He just does it, for the sake of his pack. But now, he saved someone’s life. He saved Lydia. It’s also the salvation he needed from killing Donovan. So after that you see that proud look on his face, he is proud of himself. You see that little spark again everyone missed during season five. And that spark is shown when he tells Deaton he’s not going to pay for the windows. It’s very Stiles-like to crack a joke during a serious or heartfelt moment. Right there, we know he’s back.
So perhaps it’s not just a big Stydia scene, it’s also a scene where Stiles forgives himself. And I think that is more important.
Stydia + 5 steps to show your OTP is obviously endgame
