The fact that both of zukos abusers used lightning against zuko and instead of learning to use lightning himself like he could have he learned how to redirect the lightning and let it pass through him and then straight clean out of him… Do you ever think about how that is literally physically representing how instead of absorbing his father and sisters abuse he lets it pass through him and instead of soaking it in and letting it destroy him he redirects it away from himself… I just want some peace in my life
when iroh said that you have to let the energy flow through you. that you can’t let it hit your heart
And how Iroh refused to use lightning on Zuko to test out the technique, showing he’d never subject Zuko to that kind of abuse no matter how confident he was in the “coping” technique he taught him…
But taking that a step further…
When Iroh refused to use lightning on him, Zuko climbs a mountain in search of a storm, waiting, challenging the universe to strike him, even screaming “you’ve never held back before”.
But the lightning never comes.
This scene proves the universe isn’t out to get him. His misery and abuse aren’t natural or due to cosmological forces of chance and fate.
His abuse came about because two human beings made a choice.
And this is why I love Avatar and Iroh.
