i’ll do you one better. i’ll give you 10.
1. their relationship is only relevant after a time skip. they start hanging out after they have both retired from tournaments and have to manage their teams full time. they become closer through talking in WBBA meetings and find comfort in each other’s company. after enough instances of free crashing with shu while visiting new york shu just started handing over a second copy of his key after meetings.
2. free is much more affectionate, just not publicly. in public they’re reserved to the point where they could date for years, get married, and nobody would truly know, even the other legendary bladers. however... while crashing at shu’s place free is suuuuper clingy. he's all silent but does dumb things like squeeze next to shu on the couch while the entire rest of it is wide open. shu sometimes lays down to read and free while be practically laying on top of him. he's like a cat laying on your lap except it's not a cute little furry housepet it's a grown ass man. good job free.
3. shu wakes up early and free sleeps in. free's got a fucked up sleep schedule, and ends up staying awake real late. this is partially related to the fact that they're in different timezones and free stays up late to call shu. their timezones are like 6 hours apart so when shu gets off work it'll be around 11 pm for free. when free hangs out in new york shu has to wake up and leave early while free stays in until like 11 or 12 cuz while away from BC Sol he doesn't have many responsibilities. and yes, shu has been late to work before because free was clinging to him with the strength of one billion lions (/ref).
4. they're both coffee fiends. shu moreso but free is the type to drink straight black coffee with no issue. shu leaves a pot seeping before leaving for work so free can have the rest.
5. free sheds like a dog. bro's hair falls out everywhere. shu finds it in his clothes even when free hasn't been at his place for months. student at the raging bulls assume he has a cat or golden retriever at home bc of the amount of hair you can see on his darker clothes. on top of this, free doesn't really care about his hairstyle. he just lets his hair grow out and his split ends end up becoming scratchy. shu haaaaates when he lays on him with his itchy hair so he forces him to either cut it himself or go get it done. free cuts his own hair as a result and pulls it back partially in a double braid thingamajig.
6. they're petty ohhhhh they're so petty. they get into dumb arguments like any other couple but it takes them more than a hot minute to get over it. they're both so stubborn that small arguments lead to quiet spells between them that last at least a few hours. life will continue as usual, they eat dinner together and go to bed but don't share a single word with each other. i never said they were completely healthy. lol.
7. they like to take late night walks together. sometimes shu has to visit spain to attend WBBA meetings. when he does he'll be busy talking with valt and rantaro over anything else and hang out with the rest of the BC Sol members during the day. when it's late him and free leave the campus and go on walks to unwind. overstimulated kings. shu is pretty jetlagged and free already stays up late so they can walk for a while with no problem. i like to imagine while out they'd like birdwatch or maybe just sit in silence while stargazing.
8. free's kind of a nuisance ngl. he's not annoying 24/7, but he makes impulsive decisions to annoy shu when the moment presents itself. i saw this video of a couple in their parked car eating fries, one of them offered a fry to a seagull, and when the seagull flew up to grab it they grabbed it by the legs and tossed it toward their partner. like... yeah. that's feels very themcore y'know? it doesn't happen often but idk how else are you gonna keep the relationship exciting? lol.
9. shu gives free the food he doesn't want. they're both different levels of eating problems. shu tends to be picky about what he eats while free is practically a walking garbage disposal with only a few foods he refuses (tofu, certain veggies and fish, etc.) so it became a habit. since shu can cook for himself this isn't a huge problem, but when going out with each other or the other legendary bladers shu will quietly hand free the food he doesn't want.
10. this is a sorta old idea and not set in stone but involves valt in the dynamic. i personally headcanon valt as aro/ace soooooo the basic idea is that free is a "second option" and that causes some tension in their relationship. shu always liked valt but valt couldn't reciprocate, so when free shows interest in shu he jumps at the opportunity cuz he has like... emotional attachment issues and stuff. this is like super in draft phase so it’s more of a fun fact about my thoughts on them than a headcanon
