So I'm going to start this by saying that I'm sorry.

“I was waywardly exploring the area when I approached an obscene, rattling dungeon filled with grime, dirt, and all sorts of unidentified fluids. When I came to my senses-” He cackled and slapped his own thighs. “It was just your barnyard of a lab. This place is disgusting, Crane. Pick up a mop once in your life, you may have a lifespan exceeding the medieval norm.”
He walked further in and yelled more quietly, a bright smile on his face.
“I could consider you’re merely humoring my appearances yet otherwise regard me as a nuisance, but your swiftness to invite me to dinner after your proclamation suggests otherwise.” He covered his mouth and giggled. “I’ll accept that invitation.”
He followed along to prevent his voice from being muffled. He kept the book with him. “First, it was an effort to have your location on record. It’s my priority to know where everyone is at all times. Second, I considered the proximity of this dump to others, and it’s decidedly a wonderful starting point for a new heist. Third, you have books that Alexander only wishes he could drool over, and among these tombs needed to be one useful for defining this heist more thoroughly.” He brushed the cover off. “Fourth was to say hello.”
“I know I ain’t gonna get rid of you until I hear you out and I’m starving.” Jonathan already had his head shoved in the refridgerator when Edward entered the room. It was the only area the man had gotten the chance to properly clean since taking residence the warehouse. The building itself was divided in two by a half cement/half ancient yellow glass and this was obviously meant to be the “lived in” half. The lab would stay be cleaned whenhe got the chance, but it also held a certain... horrifying energy that would come in handy whenever he had guests.
Jonathan had even managed to build some thin, but sturdy enough, dividing walls to organize the space: there was a bedroom with a cot (that was likely too short for the gangly doctor) and what appeared to be a study with a desk and a weathered and over packed bookshelf. The two were standing in a kitchen. Though lacking in a few amenities, like a real stove for starters, there was enough to be workable.
“For one...” The man started as he closed the door he’d been knelt behind, “that’s a little stalker-ish, Ed. Two and three, I knew this had to have something to do with a heist. Do you need my help or attention to the matter or is it the the use of the space?” He laid out the arm full of ingredients on the steel table he was using as a counter, opening the nearly full carton of eggs and counting them absently. “And four: cell phones exist and are easier to use than ever.” Jon turned back toward Edward and leaned against the counter, crossing his arms. “Now, that’s not to say that I don’t appreciate your company. I just wish there wasn’t always some kind of underlying motive to your visits.”

“If I cared to heed the conditions of your scolding, you wouldn’t be seeing me…ever. I fondly recall being banned from the premises for asking whether a murder of crows would involve legal penalties.” He held up a glass and inspected the content before setting it down gently. “The insinuation the majority of this ruin was available to be cleaned before you even began makes the situation worse.”
He crossed to some books toward the back. After sweeping his hand across several spines, he paused and yanked out a book of poisons. “I’ll be borrowing this!” He stuck out his tongue. “Call it recompense for subjecting me to this horror.”
Jonathan recalled the conversation Edward was talking about.”And I said no, but if you touched my birds I would skin you and leave you to dry in the sun. Yes, I realize that a ‘murder’ of crows is the term used to describe a flock of crows. Your wit does not escape me, Edward.” The man folded his long arms over his chest. “Did you ever think that maybe I didn’t want to see you? That I wanted to be left alone?”
If the doctor had rolled his eyes any harder, they might have fallen out of his head. He had given Edward a reaction and now he wouldn’t be able to get rid of him. This was how it had always worked. “I was just about to make supper, would you care to join me?” He turned on his heel, going back into the room he’d come from. “Maybe you can tell me why you really took the time to track me down, because I know it wasn’t to criticize my living environment and to steal my books.” He called over his shoulder.

“Waywardly-- Goddamnit it, Edward!” Jonathan sighed heavily, pulling his wire-rimmed glasses from his face and pinching the bridge of his nose. The doctor did not like surprises. Due to his lack of ability to feel fear, surprise processed more closely to anger which explained the streak of profanities that the man grumbled under his breath. “What have I told you about snooping around my lab in the first place? As you can probably tell from the mess, I’ve been busy lately.” he motioned to the decrepit warehouse he’d set up his most recent lab in. “And just so you know...” he said, waving his glasses at the intruding man. “Most’a this was here before me.”

“I did just say that.” Jonathan chuckled as he knitted their fingers together and allowed himself to be led to their bedroom and sat on the soft sheets. Crow was the only one allowed to touch Jon, especially his back. With his collage of scars, it raised a lot of questions he didn’t want to answer. Memories he didn’t want to think about. With his brother, behind those curtains, in their home, was the only place he could be any kind of vulnerable.
The younger twin let out a comfortable sigh and leaned back into Crow’s hands, allowing himself to relax into the touch. His hands drift down and run along the elder’s thighs, pausing and gripping a little when he targets a particularly tense spot. A knot in Jonathan’s shoulder unfurls and he can’t hold back the moan that spills from his ragged lips. With a shaky inhale, his head falls back to rest on his brother’s shoulder. Jon had to admit, this was likely the closest damn thing to heaven he could imagine.
“I saw that. You just checked me out.”

Jonathan winced again as his hair was tugged, wrinkling his freckled nose up at his brother. “My students aren’t here right and have said far worse in front of and to me, Crow. Me saying ‘shit’ is not the end of the world, I promise.” Despite his dismissive words, he turned his face into the other’s cupped hand and placied a kiss on his finger tips in apology. A barely contained chuckle gave his voice a gravelly edge as he continued.
“But if pulling my hair like that makes you feel better, you are more than welcome to continue.” He said with a salacious grin.
A warm tingle starts up his fingers and travels like static. Crow stares down at his brother, a smile with dark promise twisting up his mouth. “They say those things because you’re a terrible influence.” Bending to Jonathan’s height, foreheads pressed together, Jonathan’s golden brown eyes staring up in to his.
His thumb traces the line of Jonathan’s chapped bottom lip, and warmth settles in Crow’s chest. Awful. Wrong. Disgusting. Illegal. Perhaps that’s why they do it. That, and their isolation. They’re too smart, too cold for the rest of the world; too scarred and angry and ready to tear it apart. Others, they just couldn’t understand.
“Mm. I’m an awful influence.” Jon nearly whispered, poking his bottom lip out in a pout “Maybe you should do somethin’ about it.” Crow knew Jon, every piece and facet of him and despite society saying that he should, the younger twin couldn’t bring himself to feel an ounce of shame for feeling like this about his brother.
Long fingers trailed up Crow’s forearm and gently gripped at his elbow, pulling him closer. He knew that a little clinging would make the elder feel wanted and needed, and that it would make him happy. And Jon longed to make him happy. After all they’d been through and after all the times Crow had suffered for him, it only seemed right that they should be able to bring him happiness (even in small ways).
