2/20/17 - Studynowsandee’s Monday Motivation (6/50)
Here’s a photo from earlier on today. The workload really did a number on me, I’m so worn out.

how to start studying after school
clean up your desk: it’s hard to concentrate when there’s a pile of rubbish on your desk. the chance of you fiddling with things is also higher! you’ll get more done by cleaning your desk! if you’re looking for an easy way to organise your desk, check out these handy organisers!
get your books: get out all the books you need to study that particular subject. if it’s geography, an atlas might be handy.
get a notebook: if you’re in uni or college it’s a good idea to re-write all your notes for your classes that day. make them look clean and tidy. if you’re in secondary school and you’re studying for a test, summarize everything you have learned. in any case, it’s best to have a few notebooks on your desk too. here’s a 4 pack of spiral notebooks for $7.04!
grab some pens: seems self explanatory! i recommend you having an ordinary pen, a highlighter and a pencil on hand. (a.k.a. the basics!) here are some super cute gel pens!
turn off your phone: by turning off your phone, you will get less distracted by social media. sure, people won’t be able to reach you but you’ll get some peace and quiet. obviously leave it on if you’re expecting an important call!
look for a study playlist: if you easily get distracted by your laptop too, skip this step. i personally find it harder to get distracted by my laptop than my phone, so i leave it on and look for some music to study to. here’s a masterpost of some good playlists to listen to!
get a glass of water: you really need your h2o, everyone. grab a large glass or fill up a water bottle. some super cute ones: i ii iii
get a healthy snack: if you’re like me and you love snacking on things while your studying, the best thing to do is to grab something healthy. cut up some apples and sprinkle some cinnamon on them (try it. it’s amazing.), grab some hummus and some celery or carrots or cucumber to dip in it, fill a little bowl with nuts, treat yourself to a square of dark chocolate! if you’re studying during dinner time or lunch time, make yourself a nourishment bowl to nibble on. for more study snack ideas, go to pinterest and snoop around the study snack tag for a while. try out my favourite smoothie bowl too!
take a deep breath: i know from personal experience that sometimes the workload can be really scary and freak you out. the most important thing to do is to take a deep breath and to tell yourself you can get through all your work. you can do anything if you try hard enough!
get cracking: now that you’ve done steps 1-9, you can actually start studying! good luck!
Rory Gilmore is a super important role model in education. She doesn’t just dedicate herself to learning because she cares about grades, but because she’s passionate about learning inside and outside of school. Passion is the fuel of knowledge. Hope her work ethic can help boost yours as we all head into that end of year madness! Good luck with whatever exams you’re taking, but don’t just admire her dedication. Go study, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Learning is never something you will come to regret and the success will be well worth the extra time.
Learning is never something you will come to regret.
Number 1 most important tip for University -
For every single essay/assignment/piece of coursework …
Set your own deadline a week earlier than the official one. It sounds obvious but the tricky bit is coming: actually force yourself to stick to it. Make a start as soon as you get the assignment and have your work completely 100% finished and handed in by the day you set.
There is nothing like the feeling of knowing that you are completely free of the work at the same point that everyone else on your course is starting to panic, honestly its the most motivating thing in the world.
While everyone else is doing all nighters in the library, you get to take a night off. You then also get to spend the next week catching up on all your other work and even getting ahead. Trust me it will feel amazing, and you will feel refreshed by hand-in day, not burnt out like everyone else.
Also, if you ever do have a personal emergency (a broken laptop/ missing work/ a nasty cold) you won’t have anything to worry about, you’ll already be ahead.
I did this throughout first year and it was the best decision I made. It also helped me to be a good friend when my assignment was already handed in and my friend was completely stuck and only just starting. I actually had time to give her a hand without sacrificing my own work.
Don’t study because you need to. Study because knowledge is power. Study because they can never take it away from you. Study because you want to know more. Study because it enhances you. Study because it grows you.
The utopian life
Accept this: You’ll never be satisfied with your grades. Constant improvement is the fulfilling part.

How to Hermione the Shit out of Your Studying.
(Some Hermione inspired study tips.)
Want to study.
Hermione studies as hard as she does because she wants to. So try to think about WHY you want to study, is it because you are interested in the subject? Is it because you want a certain grade? Is it because you want to pass the subject to go on to something else? Once you figure that out, then you can go from feeling like you “have” to study to feeling like you want to study. Remember that you don’t have to study if you don’t want to, but usually you will want to, because you would rather study than face the consequences of not studying.
Read EVERYTHING.
While it may not be necessary to read every word of every textbook before your classes even start, it will be extremely helpful to read any chapters, articles, websites or extra information your lecturers give you. Do any extra questions as well. Usually your lecture would have gone out of his/her way to get this information to you, this is because they think it will help you, and it probably will.
Answer questions in class.
Trying to answer questions in class will help to keep you concentrated on the topic at hand, you can’t answer questions if you haven’t been paying attention. This will not only show your lecturer that you are interested in learning (and they may be more lenient on you if you are ever after an extension or miss a class) it will also help you to identify when you don’t understand something, and gives you the chance to clarify.
Help others.
“Its leviooosar, not leviosaarr.” … Okay, so maybe try help others in a more understanding way. But when you see someone struggling with something in class or an assignment, help them. This is something that pretty much everyone will appreciate, and it can also help you to solidify your own knowledge. There have been heaps of studies that show that you are much more likely to retain information once you have taught someone else about it.
Get things done early.
This is one that pretty much everyone knows, but very few ever do. Try to be one of those few, if you get assignments or readings done early, then you can always ask questions if you get stuck on something, have more time to work on other things, not feel stressed about it, you’ll have the chance to polish up anything you aren’t super happy with and more. Trust me, it is worth it.
Find a nice environment to study in.
Some people like their desk while others like their bed and some people fall asleep if they study in bed. Find something that works for you. I find that if I take a trip to my local café or library I am much more motivated because I have gone there for the purpose of studying.. Whereas at home I sometimes I find it too distracting.
Don’t forget to take time to have fun.
While Hermione does study a lot, she also has fun and enjoys herself. Studying and learning is awesome, but give yourself some time to unwind. Don’t let yourself get burnt out, take regular brakes during long study sessions, and try to set bigger chunks of time aside some days to relax, play games or see friends. You might feel fine after the first 2 hours, but after an 8 hour study session with no breaks.. You may not feel so motivated…
Ask about something you get wrong every test. It’s a good habit for winning over the teacher.

At least it’s colourful 😅😶 I am so stressed about tomorrow’s exam 😥
I never cut class. I loved getting A’s, I liked being smart. I liked being on time. I thought being smart is cooler than anything in the world.
