Books may look like nothing more than words on a page, but they are actually an infinitely complex imaginotransference technology that translates odd, inky squiggles into pictures inside your head.
Jasper Fforde, The Well of Lost Plots (via thrsdaynext)
What if Lorna was still driving the van and she was forced to eat the mouse and the Nichorello scene would be similar to the Flaritza one that followed Maritza being forced to eat the mouse, and would Nicky ask Red to poison Humps? (I still think Flaca should've asked Gloria to poison Humps but at least Daya is sticking a gun in his face so he can feel afraid for his life)! But that would've been a cute and touching Nichorello scene!
Yes it definitely would have been a touching scene but I can’t imagine that happening to Lorna! It was awful enough with poor Maritza 😩😩 jeez the van driving job is definitely the worst. If Deya shoots, he gets what he deserves tbh
But if Lorna was still in charge of the van she would have driven Nicky to max and I don’t think I could have borne that to be honest 💔
Tbh this is one of my favourite scenes.
Too real. 💚
Bless you, you wild-haired nympho.
I say YES ♥
Where are all my Bloomsbury Group(ies)? A film chronicling the romance between Virginia Woolf—novelist, essayist, and foundational feminist thinker—and fellow author Vita Sackville-West is in the works.

My first fictional character crush
[SPOILER ALERT: OITNB Season 4]
I can say with fifty percent pride, fifty percent nostalgia that I was born in the mid-90s; the last generation of kids who weren’t thrown into this world with a screen in their hands. As a consequence – and also because of my highly introverted personality – I’ve always been a massive bookworm, one of those whose parents get worried because they read too much and isolate themselves in a fortress of shyness. Nevertheless, never in my entire life as a bookworm have I had a crush on a fictional character. As much as I liked some characters, I’ve never doted on any of them. Then, growing up, I started to have crushes on actors and actresses (mostly actresses to be honest). BUT the crush was always on the actor or actress and never on the character they played. Even if one role revealed them to me, I then watched and read everything I could get my eyes onto which concerned them, even a little: a film in which they have a minor role, an interview… literally anything. And it was always clear that my obsession was about them, about who they were in an interview, out of any role, and in every role. That was until today and my new, overwhelming crush on Nicky Nichols.
Of course Natasha Lyonne is a beautiful, brave woman; of course her story is amazingly admirable; of course she seems so nice to be with. But when I look at a picture of her or hear her outside of her role, in the end it’s Nicky I’m doting on, not Natasha. It’s Nicky Nichols with her frizzy hair, unique facial expressions, tone of voice, and deeply endearing personality. From her special mother/daughter relationship with Red and her friendlove relationship with Lorna to her fight against her own demons and her anger outbursts, I love everything about her and can’t wait till she appears on screen again every time she goes out of sight. I also can’t stop smiling when she’s on screen, which is totally ridiculous. And I don’t even speak of that time when I thought she would never come back from max – oh, the loneliness of those 15 or so episodes without her. Or that time when she reappeared for 3 seconds when Sophia gets moved out of her SHU cell after flooding and setting fire to it.
Anyway, here is a 399-word-long post about my first fictional character crush; I finally feel you guys. And here is to Nicky Nichols, obviously.
This is when it started to really hit the feels
I’ve just finished season 4 and I can’t stop crying. I didn’t manage to avoid spoilers so I knew it was going to happen but I certainly didn’t expect it to happen that way...
Brexit is an opportunity to look at the way we treat foreign students. Policies – and rhetoric – need to change
"New prime minister Theresa May was notoriously hostile to international students in her previous role as home secretary. She tightened visa requirements last year and made it more difficult for international students to work in the UK after graduating.”
We’re not going the right way guys..
I’m loving how the news were presenting Theresa May as this highly liberal alternative to Angela Leadsom, and the one example they use is ‘she voted for gay marriage.’
That’s pretty much the only liberal thing she’s ever voted for. Other gay rights? Generally voted against all of that.
Caps on welfare of course. Oh and increasing university fees. Ending financial help for 16-19 year olds to get jobs and education. Voted against all of that. Just check out her voting record (available at theyworkforyou) and it says it all.
The only reason she voted for same-sex marriage is because it was a Tory bill. She was voting /with/ her party which is generally what our MPs have to do or else they risk being labelled a rebel, basically going against the party whip.
She is not as liberal as the media are trying to present her. Don’t let it fool you.
Boris Johnson named foreign secretary… Theresa May hasn’t been there twenty-four hours and I’m already tremendously, irreparably disappointed.
Just received my letter from Hogwarts 📬
Useless yet intriguing fact.
As it happens, Kitty in The Years by Virginia Woolf had a maid called Baxter. And then she left for Downton. Oh no sorry, wrong story; but it could have been.
How To Keep a Diary Like Virginia Woolf
“Begin by making your own diary-books. Find some old books in a second-hand shop or a car boo sale, books with good covers and bindings. Pull out some pages and fill them with your own choice of paper. Disguise your diary inside old school textbooks, the ones that used to teach grammar. Virginia Woolf was appalled by her negligent grammar. But grammar was not the point. Practice writing with and without it. Allow yourself to move. Woolf galloped through sentences in her diary, in a haphazard way. ‘It loosens the ligaments,’ she said. Her diary was somewhere she could appear ‘slovenly’ and ‘elastic’. Not everything we jot down in our diaries needs to be carefully thought out. Put on baggy clothes. Relax your mental joints. No one but you is looking. Let your brain go loose and floppy. Let your hand lead the way. Get inside your body and find a rhythm. Bring your brain into contact with your breathing. Let go.”
Sally Bayley, The Private Life of the Diary
When you try your best
But you don’t succeed
When you get what you want
But not what you need
It is a dark day indeed.
The first thing I want to remember when I'm old - if I get to grow old - is to listen to the young, as a teacher and as a responsible citizen. Because however strong my opinions may be, young people are the ones with a future to live.
