Reconnecting with forgotten spaces
me: wants to play multiple instruments, create art, speak multiple languages, etc.
me: lays on the floor face down for an hour instead
thank you lovely people for 6k, i’m so grateful ❤️
Can we please please normalize subtitles?Â
Subtitles are:
1. A necessity for deaf people
2. REALLY helpful for those who are partially deaf, have APD (like me and my sister) or any other hearing problem
3. really helpful for those who can’t focus well, especially for those with ADD/ADHD (like me)
4. Is incredibly helpful for people learning a second language, or for bilingual people who can read better than they can hearÂ
5. Even if you aren’t into learning the language, there are countless amazing foreign movies and songs you really can’t enjoy without subtitles!
6. Can help people (like my sister) who have reading comprehensionÂ
7. Can help when you’re having a party and you don’t want to pause every time someone wants to make a comment/joke
8. Can help when the characters in the show have a heavy accent (especially in period shows)Â
9. Let’s be honest subtitles can really add to the humor of the show! (”sobs mathematically”, “screeches loudly”, “angrily fixes bowtie”)
10. Can let people watch content without headphones, or in areas of loud noises.Â
11. Alternatively, If someone has sensitive hearing or is triggered by loud noises, they can turn the volume down low and still be able to enjoy the content
12. The last bit is VERY true for movies where they switch between soft speaking and LOUD BOOMING NOISES (I’m looking at you hunger games)
13. Very good for helping young kids recognize and associate words and learn to read faster!
14. Really good when you’re eating chips/crunchy candy and can’t hear the movie
15. IS A NECESSITY FOR DEAF PEOPLE!!!
I can’t even tell you how many of my friends made fun of me for needing subtitles, to the point of where I just don’t bother with them anymore. Asking for subtitles at an event is the scariest thing I can imagine. People often complain that it “gets in the way” of their movie. Watching shows (especially in loud areas or with people who talk a lot) is incredibly frustrating for me. People often think I’m stupid for not understanding a show or needing to rewind when someone talks. Most Youtube users don’t bother to create subtitles for their videos (and auto-generated subtitles are crap). I just wish people were nicer to people who need subtitles, and that they were more accessible on other platforms.Â
The wall above my desk is finally decorated and I’m very happy with how it turned out :’))
1/100 days of productivity | 1.28.2018
Finally doing the 100 days of productivity that I’ve been procrastinating on since last year. I will start off with a few older posts that were never posted.Â
This post is a throwback to my co-op placement at a hospital. It’s one of my favourite experiences as it made me realize that I do truly want to work in the healthcare field and I was able to make an amazing friend.

Tips for Students with Mental Health Struggles
These tips are applicable to a wide range of disorders, mainly focusing on depression or anxiety related symptoms. These are things that have personally helped me and I hope one or two can help you, too.
Talk to a counsellor or disability advisor or the equivalent if you can
Check if your school has special plans or consideration for students with disabilities, which usually includes mental illness
See if the following things are available: taking exams in smaller rooms or in a spare room alone, allowing breaks during exams, extra reading time at the beginning, etc. They can be lifesavers, but often you don’t realise what’s possible unless you ask.
Ask your doctor/therapist to write you a letter explaining WHY you would need special considerations.
Discuss with your teachers/professors well ahead of time if you can change pieces of assessment (such as presenting a speech without an audience, or doing a group assignment alone).
If you skip one class, you’re more likely to fall into the habit of skipping regularly.
Try. Try to get out of bed. Then try to get ready. Then try to go to the bus stop. Is that all you can do? That’s okay! But if you can, try to get on the bus. Try to go to class. Just try each step.
Keep small snacks like granola bars or packets of biscuits or even chips in your bag, etc. Eating can be hard but you’re more likely to do it when it’s low effort.
If you’re like me and have location-related anxiety with your campus, go there without plans. Read a book on a bench. Walk around. Get used to it, realise the place isn’t as scary as you thought.
51/100 days of productivity — 03.12.17
I’m trying to improve my grades in two of my exams and hoping for a good score in a third one, so I decided I would be spending 1 hour on each topic on every day of this week, so I don’t have to cram before the exam. Starting with cinema today.
Good luck!!!!
procrastinators are able to do 30 minutes of work in 8 hours and 8 hours of work in the 30 minutes before it’s due
