3 more weeks for me! Final projects, papers, and exams to defeat before reaching the promised land.
Bye bye pumpkins!
{7.4.16} 🇺🇸HAPPY 4TH OF JULY🇺🇸
If any grad school humans can help a sister out, that would be fabulous. In your opinion (or from your experiences), is is better to retake classes for a better grade to boost your GPA or to take other classes to boost your GPA?
I need to boost my GPA to a 3.0, which is just going to require a year of post-bacc work, but do you think it would look better if it was done with random (but pertinent) classes or just by retaking major classes that could be better?
Hmmm…that’s a difficult answer. I would think if you took classes outside of your major, they could be classes that could help with grad school like maybe an upper lever writing course, statistics, etc. Any of the grad students have suggestions?
I’m applying to grad school soon and the program advisor said my 3.7 GPA isn’t competitive enough 😳🙄😳
Their recommendation: •Retake a course I earned a B in •Take a senior level course in a subject pertinent to the field (The school had a short list of specific classes to take)
Does the school you anticipate applying to offer guidance in regards to making yourself a competitive applicant?
I mean, I know my GPA isn’t competitive and my advisors told me that I should do well on the GRE (which I annoyingly did average on), so Im kind of going around, trying to prove that I am a competent  human.
The schools have lists of what they look for in the students applying, but my problem is, is that with my GPA so low, I have a feeling they are just not giong to look at the application at all, no matter what else I do. If I could at least bring it up a couple of points, that would still be something.
I’m just having a hard time because I failed a lot of my classes when I first started college because I was in a major that I hated and was not good for me, but since switching, I have been doing amazing, but those previous failures are keeping my GPA down.
What program are you applying for? I'm applying for the DPT (Doctorate of Physical Therapy) and it's brutal because I am a non-traditional student and being a PT is considered my second career.
To prove I am worthy I have to earn 155/155/4 on the GRE, have a 3.8 GPA minimum, shadow in several settings for a minimum of 40 hours each, and give them my right arm (or left leg).
The grad schools I am applying to mainly focus on the last 60 hours GPA and science/math prerequisite GPA. They do consider the whole GPA but if your last 60 hours is drastically better than overall, it shows you've stepped up your game. Is your program only evaluating overall?
Now that I know more about your dilemma, I'd only retake courses if it pertains to the degree you want. Other than that, take upper level courses in the field. You might also want to consider studying more and retaking the GRE. Heck, a higher score on that could possibly be better than taking new courses.
Are the requirements at all the schools you are applying for the same? I'm applying to three schools and the info I mentioned is for the one I really want to go to. The other two schools have incredibly lax requirements (no GRE, no shadowing hours, ...).
Lastly, can you get kick-butt letters of recommendation? That can help as well.
Wishing you the best of luck!!!
the human eye is such an interesting chapter but it takes forever to finish up notes ã… ã…

Study Essentials to Prepare for Final: • learning material {of course} • scented candle • bluetooth speaker • starbucks iced nonfat caramel macchiato • lots and lots of writing instruments • dry erase markers • white board {not pictured}
{02.28.16} This is what happens at 3:15am when you are taking an accelerated anatomy & physiology course and had only one week to learn the muscle system but haven’t had time to study because of school, an internship, and work which are all taking up an exceptional amount of time but you want to maintain your A average in the class so you bust your ass for over 16 hours will minimal breaks because you have a lecture and lab exam in 3 days and know you can study only one additional day and fortunately that Starbucks iced non-fat caramel macchiato with 6 espresso shots that you drank 8 hours ago is fueling you.
{Whew! Longest sentence I’ve ever typed, wrote, spoken, … I simply thought it’d be entertaining to use only one period. If it annoyed you, my deepest apologies.}
Who said bones were hard to learn?
{01.03.16} This looks like a interestingly fun challenge!!!
{1.1.16} 🎉HAPPY NEW YEAR STUDYBLRS🎉
We always make school, and work, and other people priorities, but we need to make our mental health a priority too.
{12.20.15} HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
{12.16.15} I remember doing this quite often when learning muscles. Never thought to use paint though ... genius!!!
