How To Get A Job Fast As Hell
@owenabbott
Apply to a job, wait (1) day, then call. Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that you’re very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Say” thank you for your time, I’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you.” Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.
When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly, tell them your first and last name.
Describe your experiences as “ two years transcription and data entry” if you have a desk job interview and “ [however many years] costumer service, retail and stock” for your retail jobs.
Don’t use job “ buzz words” I stg they hear them all day. Say things like, “ I’m detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.” “ I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fit”
When they ask you if you have “reliable transportation” say YES. don’t tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you don’t do this, you wont get the job , I’m telling you right now).
Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position you’re intending to apply for.
When they ask you “ give us a situation where you had to blah blah blah” Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your company’s needs slightly above the customer’s needs, but make the customer happy.
If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you “like to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things right” (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)
Questions for after the interview:
1. Does this position offer upward mobility?
2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if you’re not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)
Then, shake their hand, Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.
AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (I’ll give you them) that says “Thank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great day” This shows that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when they’re shuffling through the choices.
DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone. In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because you’re desperate.

RARE STUDY TIPS
1. write down how much you study over time, then write down how you did on the quiz/test. this will help you see the amount of studying is nessecary for you to get a good grade and fully learn the material!!!
2. make your study space smell fresh, preferably of mint. mint helps you focus and stay sharp. other good smells would be lemon, etc.
3. after studying for a long amount of time, go exercise for ~30 min. shower, get dressed, etc then review the info you had just been studying! you should come back fresher, and your brain is able to remember the info even better!
4. don’t always study in comfy/pj clothes. if you study a lot after school or classes, then it’s ok. but if all you plan on doing is studying for that day, for part of the day get dressed up! put on some business casual wear, that’s cute yet functional and do your hair, etc. this will put you in a “get shit done” mode.
5. after studying a unit/chapter, record yourself explaining it, as if to a person whose never heard of it. this helps SO MUCH. one, explaining/teaching helps you learn so much better, and two, you have a little video to review just before the test!!
6. study on the floor. if you have a carpeted area in your home, spread out all study materials, a white board, etc and study! it helps so much because you are comfertable and everything is within reach. do this if you need a break from desk studying.

♫ Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley // Society6
Hey! I am really late with this, but I though that some of you might like to see how I make my monthly spreads. I did this sort of “infographics” (??? am I even allowed to call this thing infographics??) and even though it looks like this, I had so much fun making it :D. I really don’t know whether this is helpful or not, I tried. In case you’d like to see more tutorials (and hopefully better ones) in the future, let me know please? And thanks if you read it till the end, it’s so long :D
(I totally ran out of space for pictures at the end lol)
Quick & Healthy College Food
These are either v quick, can be made the night before or you can make a big batch that will last you all week. Also these are all vegetarian but if you want to make them vegan, here’s a substitution chart.
* = optional
Wraps - chop button mushrooms, canned peppers, tomatos, *beans (bean tips at the end) and olives. Fry on a frying pan (I usually do 15 minutes on low heat with no oil). Put the mixture on some tortillas and wrap. Enjoy.
Wrap filling can also be prepared in the microwave or oven
Mug brownie - in a mug beat 1 egg, add 1 tbsp cocoa powder (sweetened, trust me), 1 tbsp *quinoa (or as much as you want), 1 tbsp flour / 1 tbsp protein powder. Microwave for ~1 min 15 s
Avocado toast – 1 avocado, 4 cherry* tomatoes, 3 pinches of salt. Put ingredients in a mug and mash it all together with a fork. Spread on bread (yes, we all know how to make avocado toast but trust me, the tomatos make a huge difference).
Leftover spread can be left in the fridge for about three days (or yk, however long it takes you to finish it tbh).
Banana flourless pancakes - blend 1 banana, ¼ oats, ¼ soy/almond/regular milk, *~1 tbsp (10g) protein powder, *1 tbsp cocoa powder (optional but like, do It, tastes awesome).Slightly grease a plate with oil. Pour pancakes. Microwave for about 4 mins. Flip pancakes. Microwave for 30 secs.
The mixture can also be poured into a mason jar and microwaved if you want to have it on the go. Also the batter can be made the night before
If you want something that’s ridiculously filling, definitely add the protein powder and use soy.
15-minute baked potatoes (Family Recipe™): get out as many potatoes as your heart desires (I usually use 2 big ones), stab them with a fork until the whole potato is basically covered in little holes, microwave for 5 minutes and then bake for 10 minutes in the oven to make the skin crunchy (turn them over at the 5-minute mark). Cut potatos down the middle (in whatever way exposes the most surface) and use a fork to stir the meat. Drizzle with oil (about 1 tsp/potato) and sprinkle with sweet paprika (and by sprinkle I mean cover the whole thing in it) and a little salt. You can (and should) eat the skin of the potato.
Potato muffins recipe here: for a vegetarian option, substitute apple sauce and maple syrup for one egg + one egg yolk and about 90g of honey. Also you can totally use regular potatoes instead of sweet ones.
THESE ARE THE BEST BREAKFAST OPTION EVER. They’re filling + super loaded with carbs (specially starch which releases energy slowly and gradually) + they satisfy any sweet cravings in the morning.
Chia pudding: blend 1 cup raspberries (or whatever berries you have), *1 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened), *20 g spinach, and 1 cup milk, Add 30 g chia seeds and mix well. Stick it in the fridge overnight and enjoy in the morning.
Can also be made in a mason jar.
Another option: blend 1 cup of milk, 1 banana, *spinach, and 1 tbsp cocoa powder. Add chia and fridge. There are a lot of different combos you can make tbh.
Bean veggie burgers in general are great for meal prepping and eating throughout the week.
For a super quick lunch, make white rice in a saucepan and then just go to town with the curry so that it has some flavor. You can also add in some veggies. If you have leftover rice use it to make:
Quick sushi: in a cup, mix 3 tbsp ACV and 1 tsp honey (or sugar), pour the mixture into the rice and mix well. Spread some rice on a nori sheet then *put some mayonnaise on top of that and on top of that form a line of pepper/avocado. Wrap. Tutorial here (5:43) because I suck at explaining although I would use the whole nori sheet, it’s just easier.
Stirring cocoa powder into yogurt is a great snack! It has a lot of protein and it satisfies those chocolate cravings (+magnesium!). Add protein powder if you wanna be v extra.
Cinnamon apples: slice apple and bake in the oven or microwave until soft Sprinkle with cinnamon. A++ snack.
Egg white omelet with avocado on top - (originally by Tori Sterling, sorry can’t find the exact video) make an amolet with two egg whites and spread avocado on top.
Chickpea curry lettuce wraps recipe here (5:21)
Some extra tips for the Broke College Student™
Buy those 1kg beans bags. Make a big batch of them (you want the electricity you spend cooking them to be less than what you save by buying in bulk) and freeze them in separate containers. Add them to everything for protein + potassium + iron.
On that note, tupperwares are your best friend.
How to make pasta in a microwave by Tori Sterling (7:27) (watch the whole video, it’s super helpful).
Meal prep! Yes, spend two hours of your Sunday evening cooking. It will ensure you eat the right stuff
I always like to run my meals by Cronometer (+Android, iOS) and then distribute them in a way that makes sure I’m getting all my micronutrients for the day. Plus, knowing what you’re gonna eat every day frees up a lot of mental space. This doesn’t mean you can’t be like ‘nah I want pizza’ certain days but having a basic outline is really helpful.
Ramen is actually v nutritious and convenient but buying it at a local asian store is way cheaper (and most of the times it tastes better too).-
Get a tub of honey (preferably from a local farmer. Tastes way better and they usually treat the bees better than they do their own children) because it can replace:
Refined sugar (yes, in baking too. I always bake with honey and it tastes great).
Rice vinegar (ACV + honey = rice vinegar)-
Artificial sweeteners (oh ffs never use sweeteners, they promote fat storing around your organs. It’s so dangerous) (except for stevia).
Get yourself a nice blender. You don’t need to spend a fortune (mine was 40€ and it works better than my mom’s which was way more expensive). Just look up reviews. Smoothies and such are a must to get your greens in when you’re busy.
Making your own granola bars is super fun but if we’re talking budget, it’s just not worth it. Just find some that don’t have a lot of crap.
That’s it! I know these are not the most revolutionary recipes ever but they’re my go-tos when I don’t have time to cook and I really hope they’re helpful!
How I study
I start studying two/three weeks before the exam and here’s what I do:
1. I use powerpoints from teachers and notes I’ve made in class and do 45 minutes of study with a ten minute break and I condense the material into what I really need to learn, covering topics with my hand, reciting as much as I know about the topic before checking the answer. I do this guess and check several times throughout the study session.
2. I record myself speaking from notes about topics and I listen and recite definitions, terminology, names and dates as I listen. I play this commuting, walking to my next class, any chance I get.
3. I don’t cover topics only once, I do a major sweep and study of a topic at once then guess and check a few days later to reinforce the long term memory.
4. I create heaps of notes for entire topics + subtopics included in one day then, once I’ve completed my notes for all the topics, I go back and I condense these notes (I have another post on how I dedicate my study time)
5. If I’m studying at home I actively study by saying important things/definitions/etc. out loud, several times. Then I cover the definition and recite it, once more from memory. It’s one thing to recognise something, it’s another to fully understand it and memorise.
6. If it’s math, I DO ALL THE QUESTIONS IN THE CHAPTER! math is so easy to breeze over thinking you know the material but when it comes to the test, you’re left thinking “how do I do this?” and that’s because you RECOGNISE the material but you haven’t UNDERSTOOD. it’s very easy to mistake the two. There’s no skimping out, it takes practice.
7. I study every day and aim to know everything two days before the exam, this leaves me with time incase I’ve accidentally missed something important and I can focus on that. Two days before the test I don’t study. I revise. I go over all the stuff I know, all the stuff from my notes and test myself.
and that’s it! you don’t have to do all this stuff but I hope that it helps! but also know that my learning method won’t work for everyone, it just works for me :D
Hello! So watching studytubers has always been my favorite pastime, but I always want to find more new ones out there. So, I thought that I would make a masterpost of all of the studytubers out there, big and small. If you would like to add yours to the list, please comment it below and I will edit it for you! Lol, I had to explore the depths of tumblr/youtube to find this many people, and I’m probably missing a lot.
Even though StudyTubers can be fun to watch, please remember that the content that they create is to help you in your studies, not to keep you from your studies. ^^

ap classes can be super stressful, especially if you’re taking multiple. here’s the best advice i have on being successful in them after surviving high school! also, please feel free to add any advice in the reblogs or comments<3 thank you!
• read your textbook (and take notes!!) i quickly learned that i did so much better in a class when i had done the textbook readings for each chapter. usually teachers go about a chapter a week, which isn’t super tough to keep up with if you divide it into chunks (i’ll make a post soon on how i took notes from the textbook)
• do your homework, and do it well. some nights, your homework will be a lot. but you really should do as much of it as you can. (i’m emphasizing this for math classes because math homework is usually super similar to what you’ll see on the test, but it is important review for every class). Work with the book next to you, use khan academy, mark questions that you need help with (and get help), and do it on time. your grades will thank you, and so will your teacher!!
• my strategy to review for in class tests:
1.) review vocabulary using flash cards or quizlet (i’d actually recommend making quizlets for each chapter so u can use it to review for the ap test later)
2.) use your notes or textbook summaries to create your own summaries of the current chapter(s) on blank pieces of paper (take notes on your notes, explain important concepts/main ideas, write down important dates/people/equations, include practice problems for math/science courses) (keep these summary pages in a folder & organized for when you’re reviewing for the ap test)
3.) know how to explain all of the concepts (either out loud or in writing) without looking at the textbook for answers. (i usually try to answer the textbook’s essential questions/ section questions using as much concrete evidence as possible to prove the answer)
(do this over 3 separate days AT LEAST for in class tests (day one vocab, day two create summaries of chapters, day three explain chapters outloud), and over several weeks for the ap test)
• DO! NOT! PROCRASTINATE!
literally everyone says this, but seriously do not procrastinate and high school won’t be as miserable for you as it is for other people. do your homework on time, divide your note taking into different days, plan ahead, do work right as you get home or during class.
• talk to your teacher if you’re seriously struggling with the work load, and let them know if you’re going through a hard time in life and it’s affecting your school work. this can be scary, but usually they don’t want you to want to die! so just let them know, and they’ll give you advice / help with it and will support you. communication is so important.
possible structure for an email to communicate an issue with them:
“hi _____(teachers name)_____,
i’m having a hard time completing my work recently because of (reason why, be honest). is it okay if i can have an extension until (date in the near future that you can turn it in and please stick to this date btw) (please)?
thank you, __(your name)__”
(just for more explanation: my dog died in march during my senior year. i emailed my ap environmental science teacher, my ap statistics teacher, and my ap lit teacher the same email: “hi, my dog died today and i’m having a hard time concentrating on my work, so i won’t be able to finish it today. may i have an extension for my work this week until (day i knew i could turn it in abt a week later)? thank you! -jillian” they all were understanding and gave me an extension. i said the same thing when my aunt died, and the same thing when i was in the hospital after a long boarding accident. i also let teachers know during junior year when i was having anxiety, or during first sem senior year when i was working heavy hours)
• limit the amount of ap classes you take, and only take classes that you’re interested in. i know colleges “like ap classes,” but they also like mentally sane students, students that sleep, well rounded students, students with decent gpas, etc. just in my opinion, you’ll be so much happier and more successful if you only take 1-3 ap classes that you’re truly interested in. (i took 1 my sophomore year, 3 junior year, and 3 senior year. my rule was to never take more than 3 because that’s the most that i could still get all a’s in without suffering. but know yourself and your limits)

DO YOUR HOMEWORK. DON’T PROCRASTINATE. PLEASE.
if your school has a block schedule (every other period, for ex: per. 1/3/5/7 on monday and per. 2/4/6 on tuesday), do your homework the day it’s assigned!
when you come home, whether after practice or just straight from class, don’t sleep (hahaha says the person who sleeps right after), have a snack, relax for 15-30 minutes then do homework. then, you can do whatever you want after :)
actually write in your planner what your homework is unless your teacher posts it online…but still write it down in case of technical difficulties
if your school has “tutorial” (a time where you can ask your teachers for help, etc.), go to tutorial and ask for help … or eat your lunch
drink h2o. very important.
eat breakfast. it’ll get you going through the day if you skip lunch for some reason.
get enough sleep, if it’s 9 pm and you are done with everything, dont stay on your phone for the next 3 hours like me! SLEEP.
start studying for tests/quizzes at least 3 days before but worst case scenario cram the night before lol sorry can’t help you out on that one but yes study as soon as you know there’s a test or quiz coming up
don’t plagiarize! if your teachers use turnitin.com, its very good at finding out your little internet discoveries, at the very most paraphrase
join clubsssssssss! if you go with your friends it’s even more fun! freshman year is great for going to a gazillion clubs even if my sophomore year you only end up going to like 2
finals week: start reviewing your notes a week or two before, but tbh if you do better when you cram then cram! everyone has different study habits and honestly if you’re a crammer, simply review your notes briefly a week before but the day before the final, start hardcore cramming right after school
when it’s the end of the school year, please don’t do homework the period before ..it’ll only stress you out
make study guides. make flashcards. make quizlets. make a study tool you’ll learn from. share with your friends, don’t be mean :) JK haha share with the people you trust and won’t share with the whole school
if you’re in the u.s., don’t start sat prep freshman year lmao…freshman year is a year to have fun not sit in a prep class for 4.5 hours every week!
by having fun i do not mean yolo-ing your grades, still attempt to reach dem high grades
make friends! old ,new ,recyclable reusable (haha jk)…introduce yourself to new people or just make friends through friends if you’re shy
go to school dances and school football games!
don’t be scared of upperclassmen we don’t bite :) (unless it’s right before a test)
DO. NOT. CHEAT. middle school may be lenient but high school is not.
don’t skip classes when there’s a test because you did not study for the said test because instead of taking the test right then and there, you now have to spend time trying to figure out when you can take the test
date if you want to but make sure it doesnt take over your studying/school
don’t forget to spend time with your family because they are numba 1!
for anyone with long hair that gets in the way: tie up your damn hair when you take a quiz/test/final
ask questions and don’t be like the deathly silent corner-sitting person i am right now in english
do extra credit that the teachers give you because that may not happen in the later sad (jk…i think) years of high school
bring your teachers kleenex, expo markers, etc., because who knows you might get a homework pass or sumthing ;)
high five people if they try to high five you even if theyre strangers (lmao based on personal experience which i failed)
don’t pull an all-nighter/half all nighter where it consists of you starting and finishing a project due the next day, or you’re just on your phone 24/7
please don’t do drugs in the back of the school
don’t compare yourself to other people :)
talk to your counselor / ta (homeroom) teacher!
don’t try to force yourself to be friends with popular people, just stay comfortable with the friend group you already have :)
if spending 30 minutes on makeup makes you feel good, do it and own it
when people cuss and you don’t cuss don’t look scandalized it’s kind of the norm (oops)
if you make a mistake/get a bad grade, don’t beat yourself over it. just move on. like after breakups.
don’t gossip about other people because they’re going to somehow find out and ignore you for a long time
if you’re dressing like a bum by the second month of school, don’t worry life is life
volunteer! with friends! by yourself! try to volunteer someplace where it’s every week and not just random places
do not cry over a low a because the student next to you that got a low b may feel like smacking you
don’t complain about one test and sleeping at 11 pm to an upperclassmen because… just don’t
bring a phone charger it’ll save you if you’re staying at school till 9pm that day for tech or something
don’t ditch class you ain’t a senior just yet
last of all: BE HAPPY
what a huge masterpost! but i hope it helps! freshman year was the best year of my life compared to sophomore year and now and i really wish that i followed the advice that i just gave!
(sorry this is kind of late and this is based on the experiences of my friends and moi)

Hey guys! Here’s some advice for writing that rhetorical analysis essay on the ap lang/comp exam in a few weeks:
intro paragraph:
This should only be 3-4 sentences long. Don’t spend too much time on it! Make sure you cover the SOAPS.
This is how I like to do it:
speaker, occasion, subject (1 sentence)
purpose (1 sentence)
audience (1 sentence)
thesis (1 sentence)
Your thesis should tell what you’re proving about the effects of the author’s techniques– it shouldn’t straight up list the techniques you’re discussing! Also, your thesis will ideally be a complex-compound sentence, which means it will have at least one dependent clause and two independent clauses. That makes your writing more sophisticated!
Here’s an example thesis (that I wrote for an analysis of a single paragraph):
“As Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘Letter from Birmingham Jail’ addresses the criticism of his actions and defends his methods, his twenty-third paragraph declares his complaints against the intransigence of the white moderate, defining the white moderate’s innate complacency as the single greatest obstacle in the Negro pursuit towards freedom.”
body paragraph:
There should be 2-4 body paragraphs, depending on the length of the passage. Remember: go with the flow of the text, and don’t force yourself to write exactly 3 body paragraphs.
The paragraphs should be organized chronologically through the text, not by technique! This means sectioning the text by paragraph (1, 2, 3) or breaking it into parts (beginning/ middle/ end), depending on the format of the passage.
My body paragraphs generally follow this structure:
topic sentence- briefly describe what the paragraph is about. use transition words to identify the segment of the text you’re talking about
2-3 CSAs (basically examples)
claim: your position on the use of a rhetorical strategy
support: the quote, summary, or paraphrase of the text
analysis: explain how the strategy enhances the meaning and purpose of the text
synthesis to tie together the examples and state how they work together
closing sentence
Limit yourself to 2 strategies per paragraph to keep your essay focused. When writing under time constraints, I tend to be able to provide 2 examples of one strategy and 1 example of a second strategy, per paragraph, but that’s not a hard and fast rule.
conclusion paragraph:
Make this short and relevant. You’ll still have one more essay to go after this!
restate your thesis using different wording (1 sentence)
call to action, reflection, or extension (2-3 sentences)- it can be any of the following:
ask readers to evaluate the message of the piece
ask readers to agree with writer’s purpose
ask readers to examine how message is pertinent in modern-day
ask readers to reflect on the appropriateness of the piece in modern-day
another closing idea
I decided to put together a list of 10 apps that generally ensure my survival of both life and studying which I would probably be dead without (not really). There’s really no reasoning to this post whatsoever I just wanted to share some great apps and avoid things I’m actually meant to be doing. This is also my first masterpost type thingy. I don’t really know. I don’t really have my life together at all don’t judge me
Evernote - This one is one I use quite often. mainly for jotting down random thoughts and ideas which I’m probably never gonna remember or look back on ever again. it’s handy and good because it syncs across all your devices when you login and stuff. I’m great at explanations.
Habitica - Lately this is been a life saver for me. It’s basically just a to-do list type thing where you can add habits, dailies and to-do’s. You have this person (you) and you gotta keep it healthy and stuff and you earn experience points which help you level up and earn coins where you buy stuff AND YOU CAN GET PETS.
VSCO - This is basically just my go to editing app. I’m sure you’ve heard of it before cause I think it’s one of the most popular editing apps that people use. (if you want me to do a post of how I edit my photos let me know lmao but nobody probably cares). An alternative to VSCO I use polarr because it has a lot more features that I sometimes need.
Quizlet - Thank you to this app for even existing. It’s basically an app for flashcards and the really good thing about it is that you don’t even make the flashcards cause you can just search up the topic or exam or what you are studying for and some other beautiful person would have 95 percent likely have already created a set which you can use. Nothing will beat handwritten flashcards tho.
Spotify - okay music is a necessity in life anyone who disagrees fight me lol. We all listen to some form of music and my favourite app to listen to it and discover it on is spotify (minus all the stupid ads). There’s so many good study playlists and playlists in general and you can just ultimately create your own.
Calm - This app I’m kind of just beginning to use but so far I really like it. basically it’s for meditation and sleep and calming sounds and stuff which is ultimately apparently really good for anxiety and however long I have been using it, it has definitely helped.
Tide - I just discovered this app not long ago and I am honestly in love. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing it is just so nice. I used to use forest however that just didn’t really work for me that well and now I have found this it’s just great and so relaxing to use.
Forest - I did mention just now that I used to use forest but I don’t anymore however I still use it on my laptop for the purpose of blocking sites when I can’t seem to focus very well cause lol distractions. There is a setting which allows you to do this.
Fliqlo - Basically it’s only purpose is to smile and look pretty. This is that flip clock screensaver thingy you see all over tumblr.
Goodreads - I mainly use this to keep track of the books I’ve read and keep track of the amount of books I have read during the year so I can reach my yearly goal. It’s also very good for discovering new books to read.
This is not my usual content, but I made a vlog/short video of me and my friends and it would mean the world to me if y’all checked it out!
hey guys! talking from personal experience, this time of year can be super scary for anybody looking to move into the job world. whether you’re graduating soon and need to look for full time work, looking for summer internships or placements, or just looking to get a part time job to make some money over the summer, a solid cv is crucial. so i’m gonna share some of my tips below, i work in advertising, i’ve worked most of my career in sales, and even though i’m still fresh to the working world i hope i can give you guys some employment tips!
basic bits
ok, so you need to put your contact details at the top of the page, name, phone number, email address, post code and sometimes nationality are all important to get out of the way first
if you have your degree grade, or expected grade, put education at the top. list your grade and the dates you studied at uni, and the grades, dates and subjects that you studied to a high level when you left school. this is less important for part time jobs so i would probably put it below the next section in those circumstances
past experience is next. list everywhere you’ve ever worked, whether it was a proper paid job, helping out at local events, tutoring, anything that can give insight into your skills and your character. put a couple bullet points for each job, explaining the tasks you did and what you learnt from them. the most important thing is to emphasise what skills you have and how you’ve proven them in the past.
i put other experience next, generally just volunteering, if you held a responsibility role in your school you can put that here too
skills & interests should be another section, talking about your non work related skills (but still relating these back to working). so for me, i talk about my creative hobbies like writing and music, which are important when applying for creative industries like advertising. i also talk about teaching myself arabic and adobe creative suite because languages are useful, design skills are useful, and most crucially taking initiative and embracing opportunities to learn are essential in any job that wants to see you grow
sales tips
other people applying for the same jobs as you will not be handing in a 100% truthful cv. you don’t have to lie, and you shouldn’t ever ever lie on your cv because it’s not worth getting caught out. however, you’d be smart to jazz it up a bit.
every task you’ve undertaken in your life has taught you something, no matter how small. think about every job related thing you’ve ever done and think of a way to make it sound special.
for instance, i manually alphabetically organised a directors business cards during an internship. it was beyond boring. yet, now i talk about being a crucial support for the team, how i took initiative in collating their contacts into a brand new filing system to increase productivity speed. any dumb task can be chatted up.
sales is all about confidence, confidence, confidence. you have to believe you are a great candidate, it’ll come across in your writing
keep it to one page, max 2 if you’ve had a lot of previous roles. nobody wants to read that much. if it’s looking a bit long try reformatting to keep it all looking neat and succinct.
send it as a pdf, not as a word document. keeps it looking professional.
cover letters
now, cover letters can be a real pain. i would suggest writing different ones for each application, even though making a generic one and editing it is easier. it’s worth it to show that you give a shit.
actually, all that really matters is giving a shit. talk about how great you are, and about how much you have to offer that they need in their company. you can phrase it in a non arrogant fashion, but at the end of the day a job application isn’t the place for humility.
talk about the company, talk about why you like it and why you want to be there. if you’re applying to a small company definitely chat about how great you think the business is, because chances are the people who run the company will actually see it. people who have their own company LOVE to hear people talk about loving their company and their idea.
all that really matters
be genuine, be passionate, be enthusiastic about the role, about the company and about yourself.
stay calm and focused on your goals, and believe in yourself and your abilities. don’t be afraid of being great, and don’t be afraid of letting people know it.
i really hope these could be of use to anybody, if there’s any tips you guys need for job huting let me know, i’ve done a lot of it!
