‘eat the frog' method

—☀️ i’m so excited about the future rn, and i consider it a miracle considering how depressed i was. i still get bouts of crippling anxiety and helplessness from time to time, because life’s still so unpredictable, but i’m coping so much better. there are things i’m looking forward to now. things that make me happy. it doesn’t seem like it when you’re at your lowest, but it does get better.

A photo from a while ago ‘cause we’re having grey gloomy weather every single day this October so it’s impossible to take good photos. But on a slightly brighter note, uni experience has been very nice so far, I like the subjects that we’re studying, although i can’t say the same about our professors (some of them are either weird or really bad at explaining things). I took this photo when I was reviewing some german ‘cause i’ve been pretty bad at studying languages recently(

here are a few study tips on how to learn a new language 💻☺️:

1. start speaking as soon as possible. even when you haven’t learned too many words yet, the most important part of studying a language is not being afraid of using it. so download apps like hellotalk to get in touch with natives! of course, it’s even easier if you already have friends or family members speaking your target language.

2. study the most frequent words! there are tons of free so-called “frequency lists” online that prevent you from studying vocabulary you don’t need in the long run. with only 500 of the right words you could already have basic conversations!

3. get a lot of native exposure - through podcasts, videos and movies. there are so many recommendations on the internet, no matter what language you’re learning. the earlier you start immersing yourself in native material, even if it’s children’s books, the faster you’ll find yourself having fluent conversations!!

4. keep a weekly or daily diary to practice writing in your target language. even if it’s only composed of basic sentences, it’s the best way to use the vocabulary you’ve learned!

Spending my breaks in between class drinking coffee and reading my books in my university's coffee shop. A little break between engineering and science while savoring great literature.

I recently found out that HARVARD has free online classes! I enrolled in a couple of courses a month ago but haven’t had the time to start on them. Now that classes are over, I can work on them until the next semester. Anybody who knows me, I love history, especially ancient Egyptian history. I have watched countless documentaries and even taken an elective on ancient Egyptian civilization. This course highlights the history and methods of western archeological exploration of Ancient Egypt, specifically Giza. The course also includes topics on the cultural, political, and religious aspects of Ancient Egyptian societies. One of the reasons I love Ancient Egyptian history is that of the profoundly sophisticated design in architecture. It is fascinating that the Egyptians figured out the design layout of the pyramids and the meaningful symbolism in their society.

Interesting things about Ancient Egyptian history from what I learned:

1. Giza’s three pyramids are perfectly arranged to match the three stars of the Orion belt. Imagine the calculated precision to achieve this.

2. Each stone weighs about 2.5+ tons each! Without cranes nor advanced technology, how did the Egyptians lay one stone at a time with precise dimensions inside and out? Don’t forget about the intricate design of passages, shafts, and chambers within the pyramid structure. It makes you wonder.

3. The curses… “Death shall come on swift wings to him who disturbs the peace of the king.” That scripture was written on Tutankhamun’s tomb, which was ignored by an Egyptologist who died 4 months after the tomb’s opening. Are the curses real? Or was it a coincidence?

Thank you for all the free online courses that many universities are offering during this time! I am super excited!
