Beating Monday blues by getting to work during my morning break!

I don’t know about you guys, but I get so much more work done at night time. I don’t know why but I am way more productive at night. Anyways, doing a Pre-Calculus IA (internal assessment) for IB-HL math.

Your First Code
You’ve learned about it, you’ve been warned about it, and today you’re expecting it. Sort of.
You haven’t really been a nurse for all that long, and today’s the day everyone is telling you, “your patient is probably going to code today.”
You’re scared. You’re prepared, but you’re not prepared.
You’re familiar with the crash cart, you’ve watched codes before, you’ve been a code recorder, handing over medications, and carefully documenting every detail of the cardiac arrest. You’ve helped a little, but mostly got in the way when you’ve been in the room.
But it’s never been your patient.
It’s never been one you’re responsible for.
You’re at the nursing station when you catch the extreme bradycardia on the central monitor, and before you can scurry into the room, there’s already someone shouting down the hallway to call a code, a crash cart rolled into the front, and with your heart pounding, you reach your room.
It’s your patient, but not the one everyone predicted….it’s the sweet little lady next door, the one who was admitted for a simple sacral wound debridement surgery,
…the one you never saw coming.
Your world slows to a standstill as you take in the scene; your colleagues working, lightening quick, throwing pacer pads on, compressing her chest, bolusing fluids, whooshing breath into her endotracheal tube. Shaking on the inside you spring into action, despite your confused mind, which is saying, “what did I do? What went wrong, why is she coding?”
You push your way into the crowded room, you aren’t going to be a spectator, this is your patient, your responsibility.
You work hard, your hands work faster than you thought they were capable of, yet it’s not enough. You dance around the crowd of coworkers, duck under tangles of tubing, invasive lines, and your mind is still ticking over, trying to figure out the origin; was it crappy labs? Was it an undetected respiratory, cardiac or neurological event? Were there signs you didn’t see?
You feel the tears fall, as her time of death is called, and you try to hide it, you don’t want to appear weak, but they fall anyway. She was your responsibility, a simple wound debridement, and you failed her.
But you will learn.
You will learn to not only prepare for the expected arrests, but to expect the unexpected.
You will learn, responsibility comes with an intense price, despite people telling you, “it isn’t your fault.”
You will learn, even on your best day, it isn’t always enough
You will learn, that you won’t always get answers as to why a patient coded, or died.
And you will learn, to go on,
You will go on to the next room, the next patient.
2016 is almost over. the devil year is ending lets pray for 2017 to be a much better one, one abt finalizing initial growth and happiness and doing what we love and self acceptance
Hello all! If you have been sick lately (as I am as I’m writing this), but your life still requires you to do stuff, don’t worry! I decided to dedicate this entire post to tips on how to stay productive during sick days, because although we all want to work during those days, we often feel as if we can’t. However, with some simple tips I discovered you will be able to do a significant amount of work regardless of the fact that you’re sick, so please enjoy!
Take an early morning shower to feel refreshed and awake; it will help you get the day started more effectively and can help you feel less sick or nauseous
Don’t wear your pyjamas all day, instead dress up as you normally would but instead wear a sweater that will still keep you warm and comfortable
Do your routine tasks in the morning (cleaning your room etc.) and start doing assignments and work in the afternoon (you’ll likely be more awake by then)
Revise and study little chunks of your work throughout the day; do not study for one hour straight, instead divide up your tasks into smaller parts of 10-minute revision
Draw all of your curtains and let as much daylight into your room as possible for maximising brain activity
Open the window and let clean air circulate through your room (it will improve concentration and will again make you feel less nauseous)
Drink plenty of water and eat plenty of healthy snacks (fruits and vegetables) throughout the day and whilst studying; it’ll keep your concentration levels up and running and will prevent you from feeling sleepy or tired
Make your bed so it will be less tempting to re-enter during the day
Avoid sleeping in between revision but instead sleep for 3 hours in the afternoon if you really feel tired and bad
If you’re too sick and weak to write (this actually happens), type your assignments out on your laptop and rewrite them once you are feeling better
If it’s hard to resist sleeping, go study in your living room or kitchen since this will literally eliminate the feeling that you bed is nearby
Have yourself some cups of coffee if you want to feel more awake and concentrated (but beware of the post-caffeine rush & don’t drink it 2 hours before sleeping)
Eat a wide variety of nuts (this really works!)
Go to bed once you’re done; but be wise and don’t go sleeping any later than 10 ‘o clock
Don’t forget to take you medicine!
I sincerely hope that this post will help you out! Feel better soon :)
Essay planning and tea drinking after uni..
Posted this exactly one year today….my most popular post to date.
Being good at the exams doesn’t mean you’re good at a subject and being bad at the exams doesn’t mean you’re bad at a subject.
Exams don’t generally demonstrate how inventive and creative you are. Sometimes they test your understanding and how well you can apply stuff. Mostly they just test how well you can recall stuff.
If you’re really going to push yourself, you’ve got to take risks, be imaginative and be confident enough to try new ideas.
Investigating something that’s never been investigated before is completely different to learning something that’s been done before. It takes something extra.
It makes me sad that the way academia works, so many people with those extra qualities think they won’t be able to, or don’t have the opportunity to put their own ideas into motion because of a few exams.
I want to be soft and gentle and kindhearted and warm and loving and have open ears and an open heart and have people know that I care about them and I’ll listen to them
