i just submitted my poster to print for this consortium on Monday and i'm so excited/nervous! this is my first time presenting on this work and i'm not sure how i'll do, but i'm going to practice over the weekend :) tomorrow, i'm picking up my business casual clothes from the dry cleaners
been working hard in my classes (anatomy studying pictured above) and just making sure i play hard on the weekends. going to see family this weekend and i can't wait <3
my spirkies we need to talk about this lower decks episode- boimler and mariner find out that kirk and spock once bailed on a captain's party to hang out in this little space station bar and carved their names into the counter like some kind of cheesy twin peaks teenage couple
i can feel in my bones that slightly tipsy kirk was like "yeah spock its an ancient earth tradition for strictly platonic bros" and spock is all "thats logical jim" and then back in the ship he googles it and goes catatonic
Struggle with getting big projects done (especially if you dread them) while experiencing executive dysfunction? Here is my tip: my therapist told me to break everything down into VERY small pieces. So instead of "I have to write my XYZ" it turns into
1. Pick spot to work.
2. Get materials together needed to work.
3. Go to work spot.
4. Sit down, get materials out.
5. Open any programs necessary to work.
6. Work for 5 minutes. Then 10.
7. Slowly work my way up to pomodoro method.
I know this won't work for everyone but it has been a life saver for me, especially because I get so much serotonin from checking things off my to do list, and then I get to check off 5 things before the work even starts, which makes me feel good about myself. Happy productivity, folks.
We generate fears while we do nothing. I'd rather study.

Lee says in tags that filtering feedback is a really crucial skill and they are absolutely correct.
Not every comment/critique you get will be transparently actionable or worth following as stated. And it can be really difficult to sort out what advice to take and even what it would mean to take that advice. (I mean, for instance, even after you agree that "Needs more action!" is something you should address, that could indicate a lot of different possible fixes. You have to figure out which one is going to work for your story.)
There's no single right answer for how to sort through critiques and find some kind of useful direction in them. BUT. My rule of thumb--first, keep in mind what it is you're trying to do, what you want your story to be. Critiquers who seem to be understanding what you're trying to do are more likely to give advice that will help you straightforwardly--but not always.
Readers who very clearly do NOT get what you were trying to do are helpful even when their comments are completely off base. What made them read the story that way? Is that something you can or should adjust so they have a better chance of seeing what you're doing? (Some folks just aren't Your Readers and that's fine, you're not obligated to make everything obvious to those folks, but it can help in sharpening your own work, getting it across more clearly.)
Another rule of thumb--when readers note a problem, they are nearly always right that there is a problem. HOWEVER when they say what the problem is and how to fix it, they are NEARLY ALWAYS WRONG. So, let's say your readers all trip over a particular place and tell you that you need to give them more information about X. Chances are you need to go back and cut something that made them ask the question to begin with. Or the "More action" above--do you really need more action in that spot? Or is there a pacing issue leading up to that spot? Almost always, when a reader points to where a problem is, the actual problem is actually somewhere previous.
Sorting through critiques and figuring out which ones will help you make your story more what you want it to be, and how to take that advice, is a complicated and super important skill.

The thing they don't tell you about studying chemistry is how much drawing is involved... I'm definitely not an artist, but I have to say hand-drawn diagrams are a great way to study. Finals season is in February for me, so I started preparing at last - I'm quickly getting through chemical calculations and about to move on to some more theoretical stuff.
Happy New Year everyone!

Happy new month! How is it Christmas so soon?? Been hunkering down with work lately and been enjoying it but only because the recent rough patch has blown over which is teaching me to take a skeptical approach and be tougher with people because in the world of work, phew 😮💨, people (men) don’t care. Anyways, hope you have a good month!

[ID: An illustration of Kirk and Spock from Star Trek dressed in Regency style attire that resembles their gold and blue uniforms. They appear to be on the deck of ship with sails, and Kirk is walking ahead of Spock while pointing up at something. Their eyes are locked and Spock appears to be listening to whatever Kirk is telling him. /end ID]

Hi everyone!
To be honest, today has been an awful day. I don’t know why but everything seemed to go wrong so I took refuge in my books and the gym. I am nearly done with IT! I can’t believe it’s taken me less than two weeks to read, especially because it took me over a year my first time.
Also, I checked out a literature textbook that I bought some months ago just out of pure enjoyment and I can’t even tell you how much I missed it. You can take the student out of university but not the university out of the student I guess.
With this I want to say that not everyday needs to be productive. It’s perfectly fine to have rest days when you don’t feel good so, please, listen to your bodies when they talk to you.
#readingwithlunlun days eight and nine:
— what is your favourite book cover ever?
Not too long ago, RBA published a series of books with covers inspired in the MacMillan Cranford collection and they are actually my pride and joy. Check them out if you can because they are worth it
— who is the best book villain in your opinion? And why?
Either Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter or Misery from Stephen King’s Misery. The thing with them is that they are actual humans, there is no excuse for their behaviour, they’re simply awful people, and that is what makes them scary. But if we are talking memorable villains, Voldemort and Pennywise will always have a piece of my heart <3
