Noctis: And you...you, of all people...
Noctis: You should know that better than anyone.
I’ve always loved this scene because it’s one of the few that we get to see Noctis and Ignis interacting alone and being real and raw and vulnerable. The others that come to mind are their scenes in Brotherhood and “I may not have you by my side but I’ll always have you in my heart;” all three of which share a common thread of Ignis provoking some very strong emotion from Noct ( whether that emotion is rage, or tenderness, or passion/sorrow as I believe he is displaying here ), and Ignis mostly holding something back but with key little glimpses into whatever he’s feeling that I think are really poignant. As far as I recall, I don’t think anyone else ( except Ardyn probably ) really does provoke emotion from Noctis to quite the same degree that Ignis does, because he has known him for so long and has the capacity to hit deeper even when he doesn’t mean to.
Which is precisely what I’m here to talk about because I think there are two ways Noct’s words here can be interpreted and I’m lovin it.
First, play a few seconds of that video and admire the heartbreaking look on Noct’s face when he says “you, of all people...” ( and please fullscreen it because the default size doesn’t do it justice ). The disappointment/fatigue/despondency in that slump when he says “You should know that better than anyone.” The quiet moment of both of them facing away from each other, a few yards apart but so very distant, both quietly wrestling with all these intense emotions of loss and pain and ugh it’s so good.
I think the easiest way to interpret this exchange is that Noct is saying “and you sacrificed more than anyone else still alive so you should be especially interested in us continuing so that your sacrifice was not made in vain.” In that case, the heartbreak on his face when he says “you, of all people” probably means something along the lines of “I’m so upset you got hurt for me” and the sad slump something along the lines of “I feel like an asshole because Ignis is blind now on my account.”
Except... I don’t think that meaning quite fits, really, because while Ignis has shown a taste for vengeance against the empire for attacking Insomnia, surely Noct knows Ignis is not selfish enough to want to risk making even more sacrifices of others just because he’s gone all in.
The more I watch this scene the more I think what he’s saying is, “and you know me better than anyone so you should know this about me and I can’t believe that you would think I would be so selfish as to quit now.” In this light, I feel like that heartbreak in “you, of all people” is disappointment. “How could you think so little of me, when Luna died and you got hurt like this? How could you think I would ever quit now instead of coming through for you? How could you have such little faith in me and if the person who knows me best in the world thinks that then what does that say about me?”
And I just ... am maybe reading too deeply into it, or maybe my own headcanons have run wild, but I feel like that just fits because the overall arc of their friendship has been one of Ignis nudging Noct along on his journey of development from child to man, and this is one of those benchmark moments of Noct’s maturation. I think he is accusing Ignis of expecting Noct to act as a child in this situation— which is a thing Ignis does, and has always done, and has outright been called out on ( by Gladio, in Brotherhood, who tells him he’s too soft and he should stop babying Noct )—to give up and allow himself to be protected instead of taking on responsibility and risk in order to protect others. Like, that’s their entire life together right there: Ignis is trying to take care of him and protect him; Noct is reluctant to grow up and face the responsibilities of his adult life, but needs to. Which Ignis knows as well, and ostensibly encourages, but at the same time he shelters Noct and enables the heel-dragging on growing up in doing so.

Lunafreya (to Ravus): Noctis is chosen. It is ordained. You of all people should know.
This is another one of those things where it seems like she’s saying that Ravus “of all people” “should know” that Noctis is chosen because Ravus tried to put on the ring himself but was rejected by it because he was not the chosen, or she could be saying that Ravus “of all people” “should know” that Lunafreya gonna Lunafreya because he knows her best in the world.
Regardless, both Noct and Luna said the exact same line to the person closest to them/who has known them the longest, and incidentally both of those people also put on the ring and got fucked by it but were allowed to live.
