We're Breaking Up

Hey, so it's probably as good a time as ever to address this, but if you've talked to any of us over the past few weeks you probably know this. Well, we're breaking up shortly after fest. We're going to play Fest, and we're going to do a last Orlando show sometime in early November and that's it for Among Giants. On my end, I just stopped feeling the music we were writing and it started to bother me. Don't get me wrong, I've always had an absolutely blast playing music with Zach and Mike and am super stoked with what we've done as a band, but it eventually just lost that spark for me. There are no hard feeling between us or anything. Music has always been the thing that helps me work through my problems, and Among Giants just stopped being that outlet for me. If something in my life is bothering me I'll write a song about and once it's done that issue is pretty much out of my head. That was the mentality that a lot of the older acoustic songs had in the song writing process, but with our newer material it stopped being like that and it started to become a chore. I never want music to be something I don't have fun doing or writing, because if you're not having fun then why do it. With that said, we have 4 final songs that we're going to record and release online sometime really soon and that'll be it. I'm not done writing music by any means though, I've been working on a new project for the past couple months that I'm already so insanely proud of and can't wait for you all to hear, but that's not what I want to talk about right now. Among Giants has very literally grown me into the person I am today. It started as an acoustic project when I got out of high school, and playing shows was a way for me to learn to be more outgoing and break out of my shell. I will be forever thankful for the life lessons I've learned through Among Giants and all the great people I've met through it as well. It'll be a low key couple of months for me coming up, but music is my passion in life, so when this new project is ready you'll be hearing from me again for sure. So yeah, come mid November the moniker Among Giants will be dead. If you're from out of state, The Fest will be the last chance you'll get to see us, if you're from Florida we'll have one last Orlando show in November. Thanks for listening to me rant, and sincerely thanks for everything. Come have a blast with us at these last couple of shows <33

Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band. Greg Hughes- Guitar/Vocals Zachary Anderson- Drums Michael Eliassen- Bass/Vocals What’s your hometown (or what are your hometowns)? We’re from Orlando, Florida How did the band come together? How long has it been? I (Greg) had been playing acoustically under the name ‘Among Giants’ and actually met Zach at one of those shows. He brought the idea up of playing drums for the music and we just kinda clicked playing together right away. We’ve been playing together for almost two years now, but less than a month with Mike as a new addition to the project. Overall it’s been close to four years for Among Giants, but close to two as a full-band project. How have you grown since you started? Early on the songs were mainly acoustic songs turned into full band songs. But over time the song structures started changing and are now being written for the main purpose of being played with a full band. We also all listen to pretty different genres of music so we all add a bit of a different vibe to the songs now. What sets you apart from other bands? I don’t know if anything sets us apart from any other bands. Honestly, we just write whatever we want and love doing it. We’re just three dudes having a blast playing music. What’s the best part about being in your band? Playing music with your best friends, without a doubt. More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making? Greg- Sundials, Run Forever, and Moor Hound Zach- Power Trip, Dead in the Dirt, and Nails Mike- Youth Crew, Mindset, and the Descedents What would you say the band has already accomplished and what do you have your eyes set on next? We’ve been on a few tours together and each one has been pretty successfully. We have a new 7” on Jetsam-Flotsam, and have already began writing our next full-length. Really though, we’ve been fortunate enough to work with some truly amazing people involved with music, and that alone is a huge accomplishment to us.
