no. calling that passage "sympathizing with a pedo" is a huuuuuuuge stretch and an intentionally uncharitable interpretation. and the three small paragraphs between those quotes contain a ton of important context.

edward kills the guy and he doesn’t regret it. he calls it the right things to do. edward ends his vigilante phase because drinking human blood and being away from his family makes him unhappy. not because he feels any sympathy for his victims.

so yeah, edward should totally spend some vigilante days on epstein island.

I’m re-reading Twilight for the first time in years and I forgot that Charlie was pretty much ride or die for Carlisle at the beginning. The first thing we learn about Charlie is that he doesn’t talk much but then the second Bella mentions the Cullens not fitting in he’s straight up like

“those Cullens are fantastic people! And Dr Cullen is hot AND smart! Me- i mean the town, the town is lucky to have him.”

The thing people don't understand about Bella is that she unconditionally and irrevocably matched Edward's freak. He broke into her house to watch her sleep, fucked up her truck so she couldn't see her other friends, ate tears off of her face, and she was super into it. That's why fan lore where Bella is grounded or relatable doesn't work. We were explicitly told that she was these things because it's how she saw herself, but at every possible turn in the entire series she is insane and melodramatic and obsessively insecure and controlling and that's why she and Edward belong together.

One of my biggest pet peeves is that some Twilight misinformation is so popular. So here’s a list of things that everyone thinks are true about Twilight but actually aren’t. I’ll add to this as I think of more.

Edward didn’t just have one sperm left over from his human life. All male vampires can get humans pregnant, regardless of how many times they’ve had sex.

Jacob wasn’t attracted to Bella because of Renesmee’s egg.

Twilight isn’t My Chemical Romance fanfiction. Stephenie Meyer got the idea from a dream she had.

Jasper didn’t keep his Confederate uniform.

Jasper wasn’t proud of his Confederate backstory in the books. There’s nothing in the text that suggests this.

Edward didn't abandon Bella in the woods. She could still see her house from the path on which he broke up with her. She followed him into the woods.

Bella and Jacob weren't childhood besties. She played with his sisters. When she first moved back to Forks, she didn't even remember who the Blacks were.

Charlie had great respect for Carlisle and adored Alice. He was never suspicious of the Cullen family.
