storms on the boat

We're coming up to a week of living on this boat and I think right now the most unnerving thing are the thunder storms.

I'm home alone most of the day working on my writing projects for clients.  The thunder storms roll in in the afternoon, usually out of nowhere.  Years of living on land means they barely warrant a notice but I'm still getting use to them here.

The boat sways way more than the gentle pace it has usually.  With rain splashing against the windows, the thunder and lighting banging on and the boat bobbing like an apple, all I can think is, "What if the ropes come loose?"

Absurd, of course, but still on my mind.  My mind jumps to the worst - the ropes coming loose and me swaying into someone else's dock or floating out into the river.

I don't think it'll happen and I think time will heal this worry.  In the meantime, I'll have to get use to the rocking boat and hope I don't get seasick.

boat life

It's basically day one of me living on a boat.  Listen, mostly it is the same stuff but there are some differences that make me pause, even the silly ones.  I did laundry for the first time today and the water filled from the bottom.  For a second I thought the machine was broken.  I'm still paranoid that I'm gonna break it and cause water to go everywhere.

The wi-fi is completely terrible which is a slight hindrance as I try to do anything involving work online.  In this day and age where you get everything instantly, finding out I can no longer stream things from Hulu and Netflix through the Xbox One makes me lose my patience.  If I try to remember internet from 1999, and be patient, I find I don't get as frustrated as quickly.

The boat has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms so it isn't a small boat.  We have a fully functioning kitchen as well.  

My boyfriend has worked or lived on boats all his life.  He is incredibly clumsy on land but here on the boat, he is in his element.  The steps to the cabin downstairs are really steep and take me about 20 seconds to get down due to paranoia of falling.  My boyfriend takes about 5 seconds.  He's like a cat.  If he were a sim, he'd have the Sailor trait.

I thought this blog would be good to have to sort of update and write about living on a boat.  It's not a giant difference but enough where I think it'd be fun to chronicle it.
