King of Cups
This is one of my entries for the amazing Silent Hill tarot deck by @sameasthem. This project is brilliant so if you are a Silent Hill fan please check it out. All the sneak peaks look amazing and I am so glad I could take part int it too (thanks for the amazing opportunity @sameasthem)
So let me tell you a lil about this entry. I had to choose Walter Sullivan to be the King of Cups because the duality of this card (a compassionate and very sensitive older man on one side and a cold repressed, controlling and emotionally immature one on the other) just fits his character so well. His inner child is kind, loving and devoted to his mother, while his twisted adult self is depressed, ruthless and very much violent. He is a king of his own nightmarish kingdom.
In the end even an innocent child full of love and compassion can be turned into a monster by neglect and abuse.
This tarot card usually depicts a king on the throne floating on the surface of the sea to demonstrate his emotional balance. Instead here Walter is submerged in the sea of blood of his own making to show his violent and ruthless nature. Behind him you can see two ghosts of Jimmy Stone and George Rosten, two Red Priests who manipulated Walter into enacting the 21 Sacraments. In the end, these priests became the victims of their own machinations when Walter murdered them and carved out their hearts to build his own world.
The King of Cups also traditionally holds a goblet and a sceptre. Walter holds an obsidian cup that was essential for his ritual in one hand and a golf club, a weapon that he used to kill one of his victims, in the other. He also wears a medallion around his neck which is a part of the traditional tarot iconography for this card as well. But I have replaced the medallion with the amulet of the Saint. This amulet in-game depicts Saint Alessa, The Holy mother, which is quite fitting.
