It never does, does it? Except that a part of Thomas is starting to believe that oftentimes, the hoping part is the part that hurts the most. Once you’ve lost all hope, you’ve got nothing left to tire over. But as long as you do hope, disappointment and reality wait around every corner.
Still, he appreciates her attempt to ease some of the tension from his shoulders and tries to show so by curling his lips into a small smile. It’s not even half of what the one on her lips is and part of him feels just the tiniest bit ashamed of having so little to offer in front of such a bright girl. eyes, though light in hue, carry a tenebrosity. one easily masked with a smile and a twinkle, but they grow dark watching the man before her as he moves away. “ of course i’m right. ” giggle followed by a shake of her head, she takes a single step in his direction. “ thomas ... ” his name like honey on her tongue, “ we can’t control what will happen, though. so there’s no use worrying about it. we’ve done all we can. ”
