While he knows that constantly pacing in front of the front doors he asked any student who is willing to assist him isn’t going to solve anything: the constant ticking made it far too impossible for Justin to stay still. He felt like every moment the sound got louder, the closer a potential harm came for the students. Something had to be done to halt this harm that didn’t involve anyone being hurt before it happened, he couldn’t waste time standing here idly.
He wanted to protect his students, after all - but the problem was, if he outright told them of what he thought the ticking was, it might make them panic more. Which was not what he wanted. Thankfully, it seemed the student who approached for the conversation about the ticking was the calm-looking sort…one positive, at least.
He’d take any positives he could here.
Nodding in a thankful manner, he wasted no time in explaining. “What I wanted to talk about…is a theory. Granted, I have no evidence to back this up…but a loud ticking? That bear threatening a bad thing to happen to the entire island if we don’t ‘play along’? There can be no denying what would most likely fit such a description…I…I think the bear has hidden some sort of bomb somewhere.”
Face pale, he shook, before musing: “If it was large enough…it could wipe everyone out just as the bear threatens, too. So I…want to try and find this potential bomb, but there is a problem. I have no experience with disarming them, and do not want to scare the other students more than they already are that the ticking may be a bomb…are…are you skilled in such a thing? Disarming bombs?”
There was a desperate hope in the teacher’s eyes.
Akihiko had been boxing in the hotel’s gym when his ID received the message; focused on his exercise, he’d barely even heard the buzzing. It wasn’t until he’d wrapped up his routine and picked up his ID on the way out that he finally opened Justin’s message, and what he saw stopped him in his tracks.
For the unstoppable jokester to be this grave…Whatever he had in mind, Akihiko wanted to be a part of it. He hurried down the stairs, quickly stopped by his room to drop off his boxing equipment, and went to the front of the hotel, still in his sweaty exercise gear.
It seemed he wasn’t the first to respond to Justin’s message; he saw the (rather pale-looking) orange-haired teacher speaking with a very dapper-looking man. As Akihiko walked over to the duo, he heard the tail end of what Justin said to the other person.
“Wait, wait, what’s this about bombs?” Akihiko inquired as he approached the two. “Sorry to eavesdrop, but I read your message just a bit ago.”
He doesn’t make the effort to truly welcome his classmate to the conversation, simply stepping aside to allow him to participate rather than explaining everything over again. After all, it was fairly obvious what had sparked the conversation.
“I can’t say that the thought of this ‘horrible thing’ being a bomb hasn’t crossed my mind,” Clive says, closing his eyes in thought- or, maybe as a way to calm himself down.
“As for disarming them... that’s something else entirely. The kind of thing I’ve only read about in books, unfortunately...” His words weren’t completely untrue, he decided. Constructing them, on the other hand-- maybe he was more familiar with that than he’d like to admit to a room of strangers.
“Besides, wouldn’t finding said bomb-- or bombs, for that matter-- wouldn’t that be our first priority? What good is knowing how to diffuse a bomb if we can’t even find them? If that is what Monokuma has set up for us in the first place. For all we know, he could be misleading us.”
