I haven't posted a rant on here in a while mainly because they don't really get attention and I just feel like ranting makes me feel more negative and pessimistic, but I just need to like scream into the void for a second.

This isn't really a hot take, but the internet school shooter fandom REALLY makes me uncomfortable. This isn't some bs "art should disturb the comforted and comfort the disturbed" moment. I was in two near mass-shootings, once in middle school and once last month. I think everyday about what would happen if either one of them actually went through.

So then I get on the internet, I scroll on TikTok and Instagram, or I see what Twitter is up to once in a while (mainly from a secondhand source because I'd rather read the Catcher in the Rye for school again than download right-wing-propaganda.com's app), and then I'll see people romanticizing the Columbine shooters, editing the Parkland shooter, or drawing school shooter OCs (because yeah that's so edgy and cray-cray, girl log off). And I'll just look at my phone like "what the hell?"

Well yes, most of these people are just disturbed teenagers that'll hopefully look back on this as adults and be ashamed, but stuff like this is the inspiration for most of the mass-shootings today. STEM High School, Annunciation Catholic Church, amongst others. Some aren't directly inspired by the school shooter fandom, but want the "noteriaty and fame" that tragedies get (take the Uvalde shooter for example).

And then I'll see that some of these people will be like "I don't condone!!!" but it's like, uhm, you kinda do? Because if you're romanticizing school shooters and posting about them, and in-turn feeding into giving these shitheads star-power, then you're complicit and taking part in leading to more mass shootings to come.

It's not a "omg, Tate from American Horror Story is so hot" situation (even though that's weird too, just say Evan Peters is hot), it's literal normalization of mass shootings.

I saw "The Drama" recently, spoiler alert for people who haven't seen it yet, and it was a reminder that a woman could shoot up a school too, white boys aren't the only people who can wave guns around and think they're the punisher. So just because most of the people that are making Columbine fan art or adding flower crowns to the Virginia Tech shooter's face are young girls doesn't mean that they aren't impressionable children who could also take a gun to school one day.

All in all, please stop romanticizing murderers. They're not misunderstood, they likely weren't bullied, and they're not sexy. And you're not cool, edgy, or quirky for doing this shit, you're deeply disturbed and should reach out for help before you hurt someone or yourself.
