While the subs don't say this, Kyo used to call Minoru "oji-san" which is a Japanese word typizally used for older people. And here's the thing.

While Kyo is an amazing guardian and always did his best to kind of embody the gentle and welcoming nature that Minoru had, Kyo is still really young.

He is only 22 and was just 19 when he took Reina in. I love that the show doesent shy away from showing this during this arc. Kyo has been so mature for the whole show we tend to forget that he is also just a very young person trying to navigate their complicated world.

The fact that he never got to have a childhood cuz he became a cleaner and then a five star and now he already has to take on such a big responsibility by having to basically become a parent for three kids...
