THE CURE - WHY CAN'T I BE YOU?
Robert Smith, the original emo kid, never looked so awkward or uncomfortable as he does doing choreography in this strange furry outfit.
Sidenote: this is my new aerobics workout.
PEACHES - BILLIONAIRE
What I've always wondered is, when Peaches says "Fuck you like a billionaire," does she mean:
1) fucking someone as though she is a billionaire?
2) fucking someone as though the fuckee is a billionaire?
3) she is saying "Fuck you!" in the way a billionaire might?
GUILTY PLEASURES: RUPAUL - SUPERMODEL (YOU BETTER WORK)
I completely forgot how much I love and actually know all the words to this song. Though when it first came out I just thought RuPaul was a freak I didn't understand, I now watch this fun video with the same lighthearted, giddy delight that Ru seems to have had while filming it.
Favorite Pop-Up video quote: "If you can find one human hair on my body I'll give you a hundred bucks."
SUNDAY DANCE PARTY: DEASTRO - LIGHT POWERED
This song is equally good for running up hills, electro-dancing cheek-to-cheek, and of course dancing your hair dry on a Sunday afternoon.
ALICIA KEYS - JUICIEST
I know this is really just a rip-off of the Notorious B.I.G. song, but I can't help but prefer Alicia's "talk to the hand" nonchalant attitude. Add this one to your breakup playlist (at the end).
Ultra-Neo-Noir set in Paris about an extremely well-dressed, jet-setting millionaire who dabbles in recreational crime solving. But what happens when one of those murders leads straight to his beautiful - and complicated - jewel heiress girlfriend? What a tangled and dazzling web we weave.
SLEEP GOOD - SUMMER EXPLOSION
Turn on this tune during your Holy Crap Summer's About To End barbecue, or while riding bikes, or having a bonfire at the beach (do people still do that?).
MVSCLES - WHERE YOU ARE
This twinkly electropop gem sounds like floating around in a 1980s outer-space video game (Space Invaders?). Lasers!
FAVORITE SONG: DEVENDRA BANHART - SEAHORSE
This epic anchor track from Banhardt's album Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon is such a pleasure to listen to that it's easy to lose sight of how complex it is. It travels through six different musical sections, transitioning seamlessly between campfire country, Brubeckian jazz, hymnal chorus that cascades in rounds, soaring anthemic rock and back to his hippie campfire once again. It's filled with Buddhist ideas of Zen acceptance and questions about the universe and love. In a way less annoying way than you'd think!
It's an ambitious song that was expertly produced. Much like Santana's "Samba Pa Ti," it's the musical equivalent of making love. Is it possible to get drunk off a song?
Yacht Club's Nonnavera Mixtape is like the lost soundtrack to an '80s fluff comedy starring Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. Breezy, catchy and entirely dancey, it will have you transported to another era in no time. Download the full album here.
ARIANA GRANDE - ONLY GIRL (IN THE WORLD) (RIHANNA COVER)
This is the only acceptable rendition of this song.
CULTFEVER - KNEWYOUWELL
This lovely video by Cultfever reminds me of driving late at night, when everything is pitch black and the only glimpses of vision you get come from passing headlights or streetlights.
I do wish there was a bit more variety or an arc to it, but the video is beautiful nonetheless. And big ups to editor (and maybe director?) Dan Devine, who must have gotten lost inside his brain and had a seizure or two while cutting this thing.
HI-FIVE FRIDAYS: MICHAEL JACKSON - WANNA BE STARTIN' SOMETHIN'
This song will always sound like a summer night in 2009 when all of New York was a super-sweaty all-night dance party, otherwise known as the best funeral ever informally held, also known as the day Michael Jackson died.

THOSE DARLINS - WILD ONE
This raucous crazygirl anthem sounds like whiskey and leather and bad life decisions. It's perfect!
SUNDAY DANCE PARTY: HOODED FANG - TOSTA MISTA
Perfect for doing The Twist on the beach.
