Hello, I would love share with you my first reason “Why I Noonday”... Noonday Collections isn’t just about pretty things. Yes there are pretty bags, accessories, and jewelry. However,Noonday is about real people. People that have families; women and men who are Not just Artisans; people who take care of their village. I have challenged myself to show you and share with you My Why. Step out of the shadows and step out and share my Why. I had the opportunity to meet Jalia last January, oh what a blessing she is. She and her husband Daniel are from Uganda. This is where their business African Style is, where they make beautiful paper beads❤️I loved hearing her talk about her life. Her life as a child and her life now. She is so authentic and real about what is truly going on. She cared for everyone in her company. They love everyone of their employees and know them by name. She truly fits the saying “Empowered women empower women”. Day 27 of Dressember. The story of Foli (his name is changed) is one I have heard when I was at last years IF:Gathering. It is one that made me cry. I have heard my coach talk about this and I want to share this with you. The picture of the young boy fishing and Foli’s story was from Dressember email. Thousands of children between the ages of 6 and 18 live in slavery on Lake Volta, working up to 18 hours a day in the fishing industry. For these young children, the only way out of slavery is to drown or be rescued. Children just like Foli.* Foli was raised by his grandparents in a loving home in Ghana several hours from the largest man-made lake in the world: Lake Volta. They wanted to send him to school, but simply couldn’t afford his school fees, so Foli stayed home. One day, his grandfather was struck by a car, and medical expenses quickly began to pile up. It was then that a relative who lived near Lake Volta visited and offered to take Foli in. His grandparents believed he would simply go from one loving home to another. Foli arrived at his new home on a remote island on Lake Volta with no school or medical facilities. Foli didn’t know it at the time, but he had just become a slave. Very early one morning, Foli was taken by his boat master out on the massive waters of Lake Volta. As they floated in the deep, dark water, he wondered why he was brought on the lake. He soon learned that his boat master needed children like Foli to dive into the dark, murky water and untangle nets that would catch on branches below the surface. He didn’t know how to swim. One morning, as he was preparing for another grueling day, some IJM social workers, investigators and local authorities were searching for children who were working as slaves on Lake Volta. The abusive boat master was arrested and Foli was taken from the canoe with the other boys. Merry Christmas Eve. It is the 24th day of Dressember. My time is coming to an end for the dress challenge. I am far from my goal. If all of my followers donated $5 I would blow this out of the water! I would do a happy dance and maybe even post it. So, December 6 is St Nicholas day. How fitting that #dressember is in this month. Did you know St. Nicholas was probably one of our first advocates. Day 22 of Dressember. Today I made a wish/goal list. 1) check out how to be more envied with rescues. 2) how to spread the word/Awareness 3) plan my next Dressember. Just to name a few. Day 20 of Dressember. In case you are wondering the easy part is what I thought would be the hardest. Yes, wearing a skirt/dress each and everyday for justice is easy. But making sure my voice is heard that is hard. This isn’t something I am doing for fun. Trust me years of private school wearing dresses I swore not unless I have too. This to me is a uniform. Not because of school or a mission trip. This is my reminder #untillallarefree. However, this challenge ends at the of this month. My advocacy does not. I chose my part as an Independent Noonday Ambassador because where they stand on these issues. Seeing our founder @jessicahonegger doing giveaways raising money for @ijm I knew I had the right mentors. My coach @elizabethbricknell always reminds us to get out of our comfort zone for our Artisans. Why? Because their stories many have similar backgrounds.
