Luna Panties: An Honest Review
Years before I bought my first pair of Thinx, I'd bought a small pad+inserts set from LunaPads. They were one of the original cloth pad brands, period, so adding them to a beginner's stash was a must. I liked the unique style of LunaPads being comprised of a base pad and inserts that can be swapped out throughout the day.
Inserts are held in place by 2 bands an inch away from the hems at either end of the pad. While some people didn't like this style, I found it nifty when I wanted to pack light. Inserts are much lighter and easier to wash than regular cloth pads.
6 years later, LunaPads was advertising their own pair of period panties, only unlike Thinx that have a built in super pad, in addition to a leak proof pad base, the Luna panties come with interchangeable inserts just like their signature pads.
The Luna inserts, being a soft and luxuriously smooth organic cotton, are extremely absorbent and hold at least 1 light tampon's worth of flow each. They can be doubled for extra absorption over a longer period of time, or you can just wear the panty with its built in pad base as a backup for your menstrual cup or even other pads, like wingless New Moon Pads.
I find that the Lunas are better to wear overnight, as I don't like how musty they can get after a while, and I prefer not to walk around in them. Something about the materials makes this an issue, as this issue does not present itself with my regular stash items.
The built in pad is about the length of a smaller overnight pad, so you get a decent amount of back and front coverage. I sleep on my side when I'm on my period unless I have a cup in. I recommend side or stomach sleeping with these.
The cut of their bikini style is perfect and they fit true to size, but are measured differently from Thinx. Keep in mind the panties don't feel as snug and sturdy as Thinx, as the Luna panties gussets are somewhat heavy and hang since the only part of the panty that's snug is the waistband.
In general I like the Luna Panties. They're less expensive than Thinx and prettier as well, since they offer that classic bikini cut.
