I kinda feel like I was really trying hard to force the art thing when I wasn't ready. I'd personally would have preferred to just put out products and be done with it, and leave it up to other people to advertise it. However as a freelancer with no portfolio that's almost impossible.
I'm really uncertain what I wanna do, and I feel like I'm doing things at the wrong time.
Art Diary: Merc Drawing
ART DIARY: So today, I am like majorly stressing out - mainly because I realised for this first possible commission I am doing two jobs, which is doing design work (concept artist) and executing the art (illustrator). And I realise it is just like - writing and editing, for anyone who knows that process it is actually really bad when you are doing both at once...
I admit I am stressing myself out a lot over it - but not exactly sure how to solve it other than to keep pushing through that one picture I have for now... I kinda regret doing it digitally coz it's just not easy? To replicate the sketchness on digital that isn't so like clear cut. Ugh I don't know what I'm doing honestly. I just need to keep doing my best but I am starting to worry my art is "crap" as described and that uhhh I am just posting a lot on every medium and not putting out enough work etc etc.
PAIN IS BEAUTY
I used the male Snapchat filter on my face and it absolutely highlighted the worst parts of my face making it look really fat. I have some concerns regarding my looks because I was made to be really self-conscious when my mother, grandmother and aunt criticised the way I look when I was young - particularly the amount of weight that was on my face. Will face temporary body dystopia for a few days.
I'm literally growing my hair out to give my appearance a chance because I admit I never liked the way I look, even until now. If I still can't love the way I look then, I'm not sure - I haven't exactly thought about it.
It is with this realisation that I realise it's kinda crazy how I associate every part of myself with the criticisms of my family. The way I carry myself, the work I do, the things I eat, literally everything. I want to not think about their criticisms and opinions anymore but I feel like it is almost impossible as long as I am in their presence. I'll tell a secret, I considered plastic surgery because I wanted to become a totally new person. There was a time I wanted to literally shed this identity. I was ashamed of what I had become. I couldn't bring myself to look in the mirror at some point, the mere sight of me disgusted me.
Strangely enough, though it may seem shallow to many - that's where HyunA came into the picture. I started idolising her not just because of the fact she was pretty but because of the fact she chose to embrace what she had no matter what bad things were said about her. I wish I had that self-confidence to make what I have work like she did - obviously it's not so easy. It's not just about looks but also outlook on life.
I admit today a part of me still hates the way I've grown in terms of looks, but at least I also hate the fact I view myself in that manner. I'm just not finding what I need to break me out and embracing myself fully.
The Small Things
LIFELINES: This records stories of getting over depression and empowering oneself little by little through life's experiences.
INTRODUCTION: I am someone in the midst of recovering from my own undiagnosed depression. I've never attempted, but have had suicidal thoughts.
THE STORY: Today I am sharing a story of how someone (on a different app) made a post saying she didn't bathe for 3 days because of her depression.
I didn't know her personally or anything, I just replied to her not to rob herself of one of the few good feelings in this world (bathing - I have come to realise through this incident - was an act of self-awareness\self-love that is hard to do when depressed). Thing is, I actually did the same so when she replied thank you with a smiley face like it meant something to her, it kinda motivated me to love myself more as well. Funnily enough, that day I had been putting off bathing as well and that day I realised people need to take time out to do these little things like, bathe or have a cup of coffee, as an act of self-love and reward for just getting through the day.
