MELTS INTO A PUDDLE

Grins, immediately reaching for her mother’s bright hair, deft fingers separating a longer section into parts for a messy braid.

“Long day ma?”

karin snorts, and moves off her daughter. turning her nose up, she scrunches her nose. “your father can go fuck himself. i haven’t seen him in months. no calls, no messages, nothing. he probably died somehow. which– if he did, i’ll kill him again because i’ve been trying to kill him since we were pre-teens. i’m not gonna let just anyone else kill that old fish.” 

...Oh. 

She loved her Papa -of course she did- but Suigetsu... well. He was a real jerkoff sometimes all of the time.

So, she sighed, and started digging around in the mission pack still at her feet.

“Dad’s pretty dumb. Maybe he got stuck as a mermaid in some kids aquarium.”

Wouldn’t be the first time. A shrug, and she held out a small box for her mother.

“New scalpels! There’s that great weapon shop in Konoha, you know? Made a special request- bigger than surgical ones, thicker. Better to use as weapons. Figured you could use some new ones.”

“suika!!!” a beat, and she’s throwing herself towards her daughter, “ WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MISSY?”  a beat, “your father is around here somewhere.” 

Oh my lord why is she always in trouble and getting mom hugs.

Okay, mom hugs aren’t that bad SHE’LL ALLOW IT. SHE GUESSES.

“Missions Mama! Villages don’t just run themselves ya know!”

She is an important lady with important business okay. Most of which probably includes hiding in Uncle Naruto’s ramen bowl and scaring the piss out of him. Important. 

“You still mad at Pops? He disappears more than I do. Probably.”

and pride swells in her chest, and a corner of a lip turns upwards. even her own children aren’t safe from the shade she can throw. smirking towards suika, “well, i mean you kinda do. like your father though.” so it’s not an entirely horrible thing.  she knows it’s great because she picked it out and she has exquisite taste. “you’re welcome suika. i even brought something back for your brother, even though he’s out on a mission somewhere. just for him, when he gets back.” she’s lying, she’s giving him an asskickin’’; that’s his present.

“Pops just smells like water and yogurt.”

It’s offered matter of factly, as if it clears everything up and makes it better.

Suigetsu probably smells.

“And Budo probably doesn’t deserve a present. Unless it’s a smack upside the head. He always deserves that.”

          “Like I can forget presents for you.” Suika wouldn’t be too happy with her if she did. Digging around in her purse she pulls something small out, “here. for you.” it’s perfume. it’s high time you started collecting these like your momma.

“Tryin to say I smell?”

She’s grinning though, turning the small bottle over and checking it out. it wasn’t a weapon or yogurt but SHE GUESSES it’s still okay

“Thanks momma, it’s great.”

spots her daughter.

“MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

“What did you get me while on your mission? You didn’t forget to bring back presents, right?”

“N-No, no you don’t…I’m just teaching you a few Hozuki tricks. The only time I would literally be your sensei is if I’m looking to take you in as a swordsm-woman.. “ Which he wasn’t going to do, Sui definitely had a chance to follow in Mangetsu’s shoes but this wasn’t going to be a giant family free for all, he was going to pick his students carefully.  He stared at the kid for a moment before messing with her hair.  “ You stick out like a damn sore thumb you know that?”

“No way! I look just like you and pops.”

A matter-of-fact reminder as she tried to duck away from his meddling hand- though she let the subject of swordsman drop without further comment. She’d been raised on stories of Kirigakure, of the Seven Swordsman, and as much as she wanted to (one day) be considered one of the elite, to join the ranks, she knew better than to push her luck. To pester one of it’s members, even if he was family.

She’d have to earn it if she wanted to even be considered, and even though it irritated her to admit... Suika still had a long way to go. 

“If you were girls, anyway.”

True enough, while she placed value in her Uzumaki roots (and the rad boosted chakra that came with it) there was no denying just how damn Hozuki she really was.

Not only did she get a mouth full of delicious uncle water but she also had her hand absorbed with a wet slop against his back before he stopped and held her straight out infront of him.

”Yup, I am kidnapping you- Unfortunately for you your mom doesn’t scare me as much as she does your dad.” He winked at her before he continued on his little walk. “Plus I have something to teach you, I taught Sui when he was younger than you but eh-”

“You could’ve lead with that!”

Learning a new technique (a probably dangerous one, all things considered) never failed to get her attention- to get her excited, small fanged teeth showing themselves as she grinned. 

A little watery body parts between family wasn’t that big a deal, in the grand scheme of things, not when he dangled an enticing prize in front of her, and Suika simply shook the droplets of water from her hand, no longer all that annoyed at being carted around like a child.

“But do I gotta call you sensei now?”

There was still a bit of a cheeky bite to her words, though.

He gave her back a small pat before snorting. “Nah, I don’t think so kiddo.”

She’d bite him, but, well- they both knew how well that would turn out. Getting hauled around like a sack of potatoes was better than a mouthful of uncle water but that didn’t mean she had to like it, Suika giving him a thump with her closed fist on his back in retaliation.  

“So, what. Are you a kidnapper now too?”

* Picks the kid up and walks off*

Flails, legs kicking and arms waving as she tries to wiggle free.

“I can walk you know!”
