it's been a long time...
in actuality, it hasn't been that long (especially in web terms).
it makes me think about how time is so relative - the days and weeks pass so quickly in my point of view. we've gotten so much done in such a short period of time.
in the business world, time passes slowly. often, businesses don't even break even let alone become profitable within the first 5 or so years. suits & sandals has been around for just under 7 months, and we've already developed a rather hefty portfolio. there are still big things on the horizon, and we've been gaining momentum every day.
this post isn't just to brag, it's also to informally announce something kinda cool:
suits & sandals is currently developing a web development framework and template set, which we will release on our new web design/development blog, Hanger Blog.
Hanger Blog will be a place where we talk about web design inspiration, post tutorials on development techniques, and try to help expand and proliferate the remix culture that is the web design community.
pretty awesome stuff. we always appreciate a good infographic at the suits & sandals office.
Vadim Kibardin created this clock containing only figures with no casing. Each figure has self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface. A light sensor will switch the clock to white at night time and black at daytime.

we're getting to the point where expansion is absolutely necessary. so we're really glad that we were able to take on two new team members, after doing some initial test work with them.
so Suits & Sandals currently consists of:
nick - Partner, Marketing Director
miles - Partner, Creative Director
teddy - Senior Designer
zach - Web Development Project Manager
we're also bringing on some interns, but we're still in the interview process. additionally, we're looking to hire a Marketing Manager.

we've got a meeting tonight to discuss marketing strategies with a potential client tonight. to me, this is one of the best parts of my job; i love getting clients excited about their web presence.
talking about the importance of seo and social media gets me amped up, but that's because i'm a marketing nerd. but when somebody who maybe doesn't fully understand or doesn't see the value in these digital marketing tactics starts to click with it, and starts to see the potential of this new market, it's very rewarding for me.
i think that there is a lot of secrecy amongst web marketers. i've done business, or taken over business, with other seo and web marketing professionals and seen that some think it's important to keep their clients in the dark about what they do. it's similar to the way some auto mechanics treat clients: making up problems that they've "solved" just to charge more.
if your seo professional is not giving you at least monthly reports on your organic search rankings and developing strategies to strengthen and streamline your rankings, this is a huge problem. additionally, if they're not explaining what they're doing to boost your optimization, they could be hiding the fact that they're actually not doing anything.
often, an initial set up with proper keywords in the meta data and alt tags on all your photos is not enough to keep your site relevant and ranking highly - especially now that google's algorithm favors fresh content over everything. consistent updates to your site is vital. having a blog is a huge advantage.
websites are no longer digital billboards. they are everchanging, living breathing ecosystems that thrive on user interaction, frequently updated content, and somebody to tend to them. a digital gardener. a good marketer.
