How I make spellcandles
I was making a spell candle for the Imbolc ritual I’m hosting for the coven tomorrow and figured: why not turn it into a little tutorial? So here is my version of the spell candles!
What you need: (note: I made a candle for creativity and inspiration, so everything matches that goal. Change herbs, colours and stones to match any goal you want/need!)
🕯 a base candle, either white or a colour that works for your goal
🕯 through-and-though coloured candles for dripping in colours that match your goal. I usually use two or three, in this case yellow for happiness and inspiration and orange for creativity
🕯 herbs, I used basil (creativity), rose (passion/motivation), mistletoe (fertility for ideas) and mugwort (creativity)
🕯 small stone chips, I used aventurine, citrine and burnt amethyst (all for creativity)
🕯 oils, I used jasmine (creativity)
🕯 ribbon and charm (optional, but pretty!)
🕯 baking paper to protect your work surface
Start with carving some words or symbols into the candle. Today I used a bindrune for creativity, the runes kenaz (inner fire), wunjo (happiness) and gebo (gift).
Now drip the first colour. Make sure to first go around the edges for the pretty drips and then fill in the top.
Next are the herbs, stones and oil. Simply sprinkle them on top and arrange the bigger pieces so they are spread out a bit. Press the stones gently down into the still soft wax for sturdyness.
Drip the last colour, making sure to set but not drown the herbs, and tadaa! One pretty spellcandle! But wait, there’s more!
Tie the ribbon around the candle with one knot.
Slide on your charm and knot again, fitting it snuggly against the candle.
Make a pretty bow and trim the ends, and you’re done!
Burn it during your spell (note: remove the ribbon before it catches and reuse it!), place it on your altar or even make them to give away as gifts!
Also, feel free to tag me if you make one with the tutorial, I’d love to see them! 🌙

Instant Magic: Using Prepackaged Spice Mixes
Adobo Seasoning Mix: Adobo is a traditional Mexican spice mix containing paprika, black pepper, onion pepper, oregano, cumin, hot chilies, and garlic powder. Magical uses include protection, banishing, or hex breaking. Combine half a jar of adobo seasoning mix with two cups of corn flour. Sprinkle around the outside of your home to get rid of negative energies.
Apple Pie Spice: A combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cardamom, apple pie spice is the perfect mix for spicing things up with your partner! Dress a red candle in grape-seed or olive oil- avoiding the wick- and roll it in apple pie spice. Burn while spending time with your lover. Or sprinkle this mix over a self-lighting charcoal instead.
Cajun Seasoning Mix: Generally a blend of paprika, salt, black and white peppers, garlic, onion powder, thyme, and cayenne, Cajun seasoning is perfect for strong protection. Use this mix to form circles when doing important works. Sprinkle just a pinch in the hoes of someone who needs a little watching over.
Chili Powder: Made with salt, hot chilies, onion, oregano, and garlic, chili powder is great for keeping away illness. Leave out tiny bowls of chili powder- out of reach of pets and children- during cold and flu season to help ward off illness.
Chinese Five-Spice Powder: Chinese Five-Spice Powder is an amazing blend of star anise, fennel seed, cinnamon, hot peppers, cloves, ginger, and licorice root. This mix lends itself to several kinds of herbal magic, including love spells, spells for igniting passion, and even spells for retaining information.
Cinnamon Sugar: With sugar sweetening a person or situation and cinnamon speeding up a spell, the two work great together when you need to get someone on your side quickly. Serve cinnamon toast to someone who could use some convincing. Sprinkling a little of the mix where you know a person will walk might influence them to look more kindly on your situation.
Curry Powder: Curry powder recipes can vary greatly brand to brand, so it’s helpful that the mix already has some traditional uses! Turn to curry powder for protection, memory retention, and fertility spells.
Montreal Steak Seasoning: A combination of paprika, black and red peppers, garlic, salt, onion, dill, and coriander, this spice mix contains many of the individual ingredients you’d need to protect yourself or your home from ghosts or other negative energies. Create four small cloth pouches, fill them with this blend, and hang one in each of the farthest corners of your home.
Pickling Spice: Pickling spice can contain a wide variety of herbs and spices, but most are a mix of mustard seed, coriander, black pepper, dill, fennel seed, celery seed, and bay leaf. This combination can be used for many different intents, such as protection from ghosts or luck, lust, and wish magic.
Pumpkin Pie Spice: Pumpkin pie spice is one of my all-time favorite blends. I usually carry a small container of this mixture of cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, and allspice in my on-the-go kit to add to almost any spell to “speed it up.” It’s also a great blend for business ventures, money draw, and simple healing spells.

This book is in my library and I absolutely adore it. :)
I use pumpkin pie spice all the time.
Protective Measures Against Common Hexes or Curses
Against the Evil Eye:
Hang dill weed over all windows and doorways in the home.
Wear a blue eye bead for constant personal protection. Hang one from the rear-view mirror of your car, as well.
Keep a cimaruta (an Italian talisman sporting multiple symbols) on your altar to stave off interference in your magical work.
Against Nightmares:
Keep a silver bell in your bedroom, and ring it to drive off nightmare-causing evil spirits each night before you go to bed.
A small dish of coffee beans kept by the bed staves off nightmares.
Rosemary plants placed near the bed shield against unpleasant dreams.
For Safe Automobile Travel:
Keep a whole ash leaf in the glove box for magical protection.
Keep a tiger’s eye in the vehicle to protect against accidents.
Hang a bag filled with wormwood and plantain from the rear-view mirror to prevent negative spirits from taking on the position of co-pilot.
Bear’s Job Jar
- 1 jar - salt (i used rock salt) - basil - rosemary - cloves - chili powder* - sharpie (optional)
1. Dump in your salt, as an amplifier and a protector from shitty jobs that will take advantage of you
2. Sprinkle in your basil, to signify the cash flow.
3. A pinch of rosemary, to facilitate a good relationship between you and your future employer
4. Clove time! Whole or ground, doesn’t matter. I used whole. Cloves attract luck and prosperity, something you need and like in jobs.
5. Chili powder* to light a fire under your future employer’s ass. Make them get on it! Call you back, for an interview or a job offer! Hop to it!
(Optional) 6. Sharpie on an employment sigil to the lid, or a on a paper to fold up and put inside your jar. Shake it real good and think hard about what you want in a job. Keep it until you’re sure you are employed, maybe until you get your first paycheck.
*Can be substituted with cinnamon, paprika, red pepper flakes, or curry powder. Whatever you have on hand! And remember, this is just a guideline. If you don’t have the right stuff, don’t worry. It’s the intent that counts.
===== If you decide to do this, please tag me in it! I love seeing people using my recipes!! ====
