Lucky || Chris & Jake
Chris couldn’t read the card because it was almost too sickening with cute things. He didn’t want to fall in love, and he didn’t want to have a crush on someone. That would all distract him from getting into college and having a life outside of Long Beach. He couldn’t take that anymore, and he didn’t want it to be like that. “I,” He sighed out gently, not wanting to disappoint Jake, but he knew that he probably would eventually. A dinner was almost too nice, and he couldn’t imagine going on a proper date just yet. Even though it was Valentine’s Day, he didn’t want to do anything too fancy because that would only increase Jake’s hopes more. This wasn’t doing him a favor, it was just… seeing what would happen. “It wasn’t that obvious because I had no idea.” He laughed a little bit as he shut the card he had been staring at, and looked up at the boy with his beautiful eyes. Beautiful? No— admiring. “Let’s just… go to your house, alright? I don’t think I’m up for dinner. We can just talk… see where I am with all of this, okay?” Chris was definitely not against being gay— it was something he had grown up with, and knowing that half of his friends were was one thing… he just didn’t know if he saw guys in any light like that. Jake might have been the exception, but he couldn’t tell for sure. Not yet. “I don’t want you to get your hopes up— I don’t… know if I like you like that.”
From Chris' reaction, Jake felt like he had totally screwed up by giving him the card. The boy just looked like unhappy and confused, which wasn't what he was expecting at all. He didn't mind if Christian didn't have the same feelings towards him, but he didn't expect it to have any negative effects on their relationship. "I get it," He said, shaking his head. "I probably just shouldn't have told you-- not like this, at least." Jake thought that his efforts would have made his chances of a date with Chris greater, but that clearly wasn't the case. He was trying to do something nice for once, but it didn't work out as well as he had planned. "Oh, alright. That actually sounds like a better idea than dinner." He was happy to hear that Chris wasn't going to completely ditch him and just go home, plus he felt like there was so much he needed to learn about the other boy. "Don't worry-- it's fine, really! I totally understand what you're saying and I'm sure I just overwhelmed you by telling you like this, I just didn't want to blurt it out and make things awkward." He sighed, realizing that it probably was awkward now that he'd said that. "So," He started, looking at Chris with a hopeful smile. "My car or yours?"
