My statement on the abuse allegations against Brad Taste in Music
Hey, I've just been made aware of the Brad Taste in Music abuse allegations. I have listened to the leaked audio myself and noticed heavy DARVO (deny, attack, reverse victim and offender) and I just wanted to say I stand with Tina. I gave Brad the benefit of a doubt before, and never will again. I hope she's doing well and has a lot of support during this time.
I understand she probably hates my guts, which is totally fine, and that some of you were upset by her stance on Melanie's allegations and association with Brad. But I wanted to ask everyone to be good and supportive to her at this time or say **NOTHING** at all. She did not deserve this. She is way more of a victim to Brad than I am, and while I know most of my audience is mature adults, I just wanted to put it out there that I'm not okay with anyone being petty or rude to her. I don't want to hear any "I told you so!" or "that's what you get" BS. If you see another Melanie fan acting in that way, please tell them to grow up. She deserves nothing short of loving support at this time. It's interesting that it's "believe all women" until it comes to his own partner, but the "exposure" of his abuse is no cause for spiteful celebration; if anything, it's one of those scary truths of life. Domestic abusers are extremely manipulative and dangerous, and the fact that he has an audience to weaponize is harrowing. I'm not happy to hear he's a hypocrite. I know firsthand how violent his stans can be when harassing people, and I pray for Tina to find strength, safety, community, and inner peace.
For those who aren't in the know, I'm not going to link anyone to the leaked audio because I myself found it very triggering. Instead, I'll describe it. It opens with Tina brushing her dogs. Brad then starts interrogating her because he wants to know what she's thinking about and accuses her of lying, picking a fight. She tries to deescalate as he argues pedantically, and starts yelling at her because she's scared to look him in the eye. He claims he wants her to leave him alone and leave the house despite, 1, he's the one who is harassing her, and 2, her name is on the lease. He describes in detail a plan to call the police and claim Tina was emotionally abusing her and he had asked her to leave several times and she refused, which would be a crime (false reporting). She argued that wouldn't work. After this, he gets more menacing. He says threateningly that he is "watching her body language" and that she looks like one of the "freaks on the f*cking interrogation videos," and starts mocking her, saying he could record her and make a video painting her body language as criminal. He continues to escalate, accusing her of abusing him while screaming in an animalistic way, and it sounds like he is physically forcing her out of the house. Afterward, you can hear Tina sobbing.
A link to this was posted on Brad Taste in Music's channel (I guess by an editor or manager?) and captioned "the full, uncut audio that got Brad arrested." (I haven't personally seen official confirmation of an arrest.) Brad's response was a 50 minute freestyle, showing he does not take this seriously at all.
To those saying what Brad did "wasn't that bad..." Please remember, this is only one small snapshot of a ~5 year long relationship. But between this audio and his public behavior, it is clear that Tina is the victim. I don't need to see a bruise to know she's a domestic violence survivor. The emotional abuse can easily be the worst part of domestic violence, and she is just as valid as any other survivor. Don't ask her to prove it or defend herself--her only job is to heal. Hold Brad accountable, not Tina.
