sulpicia was born in italy, being one of the many latins tribes that came over and settled in early italy in small region known later on to the romans as ‘old latium’
her family were farmers and the women of the family mostly looked after the children and weaved clothing. because of this she was very talented with clothes and was very resourceful.
her tribe made a home in old latium and lived a good life, that is until her parents were attacked by wild animals from the region. they were mauled while she hid underground in a ditch they had dug.
now an orphan at the tender of age of 12, she had to make her own way, working for the few people who would let her help out, just so she could eat and live. it was a rough going and many men tried to claim her for their own while she was at the marriage age.
she managed to deter most of them until she was around 17 when she was forcefully married off to a man of another latin tribe family. she didn’t really want to marry him, but it meant that they would leave her be and stop pressing her.
she spent a good 7 years with her first husband, had children by him as well. but one night, he disappeared from their home. there was talk of monsters that roamed the night and many thought that he had been spirited away. that was until he was found the next morning with his throat ripped out.
some claimed that it was the monsters they spoke of, the more sceptical people just said it was another animal attack. either way, people started to believe that sulpicia was cursed. two separate occasions where people died around her in the same sort of circumstances seemed suspicious.
most stayed clear of her after that, which left sulpicia depressed, feeling she was back where she had been when her parents died. but then a stranger from afar caught her eye. a dark stranger with ruby eyes and slick raven hair. aro.
seeing what he saw as what he was looking for in a mate -a smart, resourceful, and beautiful young woman- he approached her and got to know her, comforting her in her loneliness and wooing her.
aro began successfully courting her, and she came to fall in love with him over the course of a year or so. he revealed his true nature to her but she told him that it didn’t change how she felt about him. she had few ties to her human community and agreed to become a vampire and become his wife.
it wasn't until after her transformation that aro realised that though he cared for her greatly, sulpicia wasn't the mate he thought she was. they remain wife and husband, still very much bonded, but not in the way that they originally were. sulpicia does love aro, but she too noticed the disconnect. they were not true mates, more like platonic soulmates.
she sticks by his side even to this day, and is perfectly content with just being by his side, leading with him as his queen.
