You can start writing August 1st! If you're someone who needs some more time, I won't judge you if you start a little early.
Wait, do we get an art buddy out of this like a bang?
Sorry, but no. This is a writing challenge. If you decide to do an exchange with someone who is participating though, I won't stop you! That just won't be part of this process for this year!
Why are we only posting one chapter? Can we post all of it?
It's your story, you can technically do whatever you want. You're only required to verify with us that you finished your fic and post the first chapter on October 1st. If you're someone who wants to drop the full story like a traditional bang, go ahead.
The reason we recommend one chapter at a time is it gives readers time to look through everything, it gives you time to edit, and it can be nice to have something to post regularly. It also helps get your story on the dash & ao3 pages more often!
If you decide you want to post all of it at once, go for it. Just make sure you're still waiting for the deadline.
Send this blog a message or a reaction. We will collect everyone and create a list of everyone who is participating. If there's enough, we'll create a community or discord for people if they wish to chat more!
No. AI cannot help you with ideas, editing, prompts, etc. If you need help with ideas, this is where I recommend exploring where other writers have before you: previous trauma (/silly), music, art, favorite stories, etc. Explore and have fun with your own thoughts and feelings, not a robots.
How does the taglist work?
The taglist is one of the rewards for completing the challenge. Once you've confirmed the fic is done, a taglist will go to everyone with the participants. You tag everyone on the list when you post on tumblr for both your first chapter AND all the chapters afterwards. This means we get to hype each other up until the fic is fully done!
Please do not continue to use the taglist after your fic is done without permission from the other writers.
Can I join even if I'm not writing for Dragon Age?
If you just want to yap about writing and want a community during it, go for it. I just can't promise how much people will know or understand what you're writing about then. It just means you might need to be patient with people in learning about things.
Do I have to use something spooky?
Nope! This is just meant to be a fun writing challenge. The prompt for this summer is spooky. Next summer, we might do something else.
Can I continue a story I already started?
By all means. You just can't post updates for it until the challenge is over so if you're someone who gets antsy not updating for two months, you might want to try writing something else. But hopefully this is good incentive to wrap something up!
Wait. What if I didn't finish my story? :c
I have to take you out back and make you look at the flowers for a minute /silly. Just come chat and we'll figure something out. Part of the challenge is finishing the story, though!
Ugh. Do I have to use the discord / community?
Completely optional. Updates are posted on this blog, too.
