On August 1st theyāre āsweepingā the largest camp (which has an unknown amount of peopleāone reporter said 500 and thatās been questioned but no one has a more accurate estimate, and the number is high) sweeping being sending the police in to force them to move with whatever they can carry and whatever they canāt carry is thrown away. The mayor and the police always say the belongings will be saved but that has yet to happen, and even if it DID happen, the place you pick up confiscated personal effects is in downtown and springwater is all the way out by clackamas, a good half hour from downtown if there arenāt too many bus stops, or much longer. It also would cost around five dollars round trip, maybe more (I donāt take public transit for my own mental health).
Jesse Sponberg is proposing to move people to the mayorās neighbourhood (v fancy rich people land, no worries about gentrification there bc no poc have ever lived there unless they were rich) and Jesse Sponberg is sort of questionable imo like heās a rape apologist, but he did have his mom take in the women who were forced out of the womenās safe camp after one day BC a developer bought the land, and the camp in his momās back yard is really really nice. Still staying in tents, but idyllic. Thereās chickens (the one Iām holding in that one picture where Iām freaking out BC I canāt not freak out when chickens let me hold them) and a garden and yeah his momās house is in foreclosure so they may have to move unexpectedly any day now but hey! At least he/his mom are doing as they say, rather than the mayor, who isā¦ just doing harm.
