willow, by nature, is a pretty trusting individual. she chooses to see the good in things and the good in people. she also chooses to believe that others want the same thing she does— to help and protect others. a somewhat naive thing to choose to believe.
after everything he'd done to willow and her teammates already— the lying, kidnapping, locking them in a cell— when she heard those words come out of caleb's hunter's mouth she wasn't about to make another bad call by trusting them or him— he'd already betrayed her trust once. her immediate reaction was to think this was another ruse. the golden guard was just trying to get her to let her guard down and then he and the abomination coven head would attack together. she wasn't going to let that happen to her teammates. so she stood her ground, fiercely protecting her team despite feeling hurt and foolish for blindly trusting someone she'd just met and having it backfire spectacularly in her face.
even when he looks her in the eye and tells them they can go, she's ready for whatever trick he's about to pull. that is until please, captain... something had changed. there was a sincerity to those words. this wasn't a trick, he was actually letting them go. he was going to spare them, give them another chance. so maybe that meant he too deserved a second chance, which is what she decided she was going to do. because maybe it wasn't so wrong or silly to believe in other people. and maybe, just maybe, there are other people out there that want the same thing she does— to help and protect others.
