Just as a rule of thumb, because for some reason I used to have it in my rules but never added it when I remade my blog/edited my rules, but I don’t ship Jihyun with Rika. The only time I will consider writing it is along the lines of when it takes place in canon. Anything beyond that I will not pursue. In short, it was very unhealthy for both parties. But I could just go into all of the complications and abuse it presents, and for shipping purposes it’s not going to happen. It’s something I should honestly add back into my rules, but I just wanted to put this back on here!

(But if you wanna know some OTPs/ship stuff I have with Jihyun it’s Jumin, Zen, MC/OC’s that have chemistry. Though just because you write one of those characters please do not automatically assume a ship will happen. Discussions and chemistry between muses must happen first!)

I still really want to write up a verse that canon divergent where Jihyun doesn’t stay with the RFA or really deal with all the Mint Eye stuff. But that’s...such a massive part of his story it’d be hard to remove that from him without taking out a lot. No, it’s not all of who he is but it plays a massive part into how he reacts and does the things he does. But I want to try out some new stuff and delve into new things with him. I’m just always stuck on the ‘how would I do that’ part.

          It wasn’t the first time he’s heard such a statement. He doubted it would even be the last. Ever since Rika left the warmth of their home and his heart he’s heard it. Emotions always were too quick to appear over his face –– even if it was for only a moment. His heart was worn on his sleeve and all too easy cut into. But he’d never let another pick up the pieces that were hurt to help place it back together. He couldn’t ask something so selfish of anyone.

          Yet they never stopped trying. It makes more guilt weigh on his chest at the thought of worrying them further. But could they not see how dirty his hands were? Even with his rapidly deteriorating sight how was he the only one who could see it? It was like a stain in the creases of his palms. No matter how much he scrubbed they would never be clean again.

          In order to busy his hands, he picks up the glass of wine that sits before him to take a small sip. The slight burning down his throat does nothing to soothe him, and so he casts his gaze anywhere else but in his best friend’s direction. “Thank you, Jumin, but that isn’t necessary.” There’s a pause as he considers taking another swig and instead gently swirls it. “You all have your own troubles to deal with and I do not wish to impose...I will be alright so long as you are all safe.”

“it’s okay to cry in front of me, you know. you don’t have to carry this alone.”

          The weight that carries after her words makes the air almost dense enough that it threatens to choke him. All of the secrets he carried upon his shoulders could drag him to the darkest depths of the ocean. If only someone would cast him out to sea. For even his tears bring little reprieve. He doesn’t dare cry before another lest they feel just how heavy the load he holds is. But even when alone is it truly alright for him to cry? Does he deserve the release that it would bring with burning eyes and an exhausted mind?

          He takes a shaky inhale of breath. His sleeves are clenched in his fists as he brings one up to swipe away at the tear that begins making its way down his cheek. So easily his shoulders could give into fits of shaking. It makes his body stiff as he wipes away another tear on the opposite side of his face. It’s followed by a sniffle as he dips his head forward to hide behind growing mint hair.

          “I don’t wish to pass this on to anyone else.” The words are quiet as he rests his hands on his lap. He feels restless from many sleepless nights and many days filled with worry. So he sniffs again and offers a shake of his head. “I couldn’t live with myself if I made you cry as well.”

There’s still the lurking frustration of people mistaking characters for bad endings –– especially Jihyun and Jumin. Like yes. Those are negative traits, but the bad endings take it to the extremes because they get pushed towards them by the MC. The bad endings are basically reflections depending on how you treat them. And I think while it can still vary and is still extreme, it shows just how much of an impact someone that you are close with can have on you.

I really want to write darker content with Jihyun. Like exploring more about Mint Eye, him dealing with Rika, his mental state, etc. Because you know in the three years that I’ve been writing him I was always so hesitant to write that stuff? Mostly because I didn’t want to trigger anyone and was just flat out too scared to ask. But man, I feel like I kinda skirt around that stuff in most replies because I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. At the same time though V deals so heavily with mental trauma and a few abusive relationships that I hate just lightly touching on it. I want to delve deep. I have wanted to for so long.

“ i still have the scars. “

          There’s a quiet that falls over the space after she speaks. A gentle look settles on his face as he casts what remains of his sight in her direction. She’s just a blur of colors. No solid shapes to make out where her eyes should be or the curve of her shoulders. It pulses a bit of anxiety to his heart which he quickly beats down as he turns his gaze down towards his hands. They pick at the sleeves of his worn cardigan.

          Scars were always tricky things. They showed up in more ways than physical scratches upon the skin. But marks on the heart. Tears in the mind. Visible and invisible. The luckier ones would fade in time, but others seemed to remain as a haunting reminder of what had been. It was a feeling he knew all too well and a pill he had to swallow every day. Though, it never did make it any easier knowing others would feel the same.

          So he reaches out with a single hand to take away from their previous task. It takes him a moment to find her own, but once he does he places her hand between both of his.
