“I want to write, I want to direct, I want to produce—I want to inhabit what I think it means to fully be an artist. I always wanted to do that, but I didn’t think I had the tools. Now I look at Viola [Davis] and I look at Nate [Parker] and I look at Shonda [Rhimes] and it’s like, You just do it. You just begin, you know?”

Rory at Jess [insp.]
I’ve always been obsessed with cars. As a child I knew the names of every car on the planet and I’d always ask for toy cars and garages as presents. I was particularly drawn to French cars because they seemed impossibly cool. My parents had a beaten-up Volvo estate with fold-down seats in the back. I now drive a Citroen DS, which is my pride and joy. If money was no object, I’d buy a classic, long, sleek Jaguar or a Mercedes SL from the Sixties.
