Thinks about how much the sweethearts castle story implies Sunny has some Issues around love. We know nothing about where his father is now, but the pieces we do have don't look good regarding his relationship with his mom. With the whole Sweetheart and Spaceboy thing, I wouldn't be surprised if his parents split up and that's what caused the rift. Especially with Sweethearts lines about "I don't believe in true love! I'll never love again!" , doubled with how Sunny tries to shut out his own emotions. He might've seen his parents get divorced(???) and internalized that as "if love can die then there's not really a point in pursuing that relationship at All." Which added with how his mind has Aubrey say what she and Omori have is nothing like Sweetheart could have, might've been like...he thinks either you have True Love or a relationship that's painful and therefore Unsalvageable. His response to conflict in Any relationship, platonic or otherwise, is to run. I dunno I'm thinking.

I'm also thinking about how it has Hero specifically being chosen by Sweetheart there. Maybe Sunny was really scared of Hero or Mari finding other people, because he didn't want the friend group to fall apart if Mari and Hero broke up. Maybe he was scared of Hero and Mari breaking up and then he wouldn't get to talk to the others anymore like his parents, if the divorce happened before the accident. I dunno. I'm spitballing here.

There's a lot of fear around Hero growing up I'm noticing. The idea of Hero liking people that aren't Mari is quite literally an antagonist, and the idea of Hero being Stolen away too. Made very different by the fact that this is in the true ending route after he finds out Heros off at college. He might be scared Hero has a new life and has forgotten about Mari and everyone completely, and now he won't want anything to do with any of them. One of the bonus things on console is Hero becoming an antagonist if he gets a job. He might've been really scared of Hero growing up before the rest of them and not liking them anymore. I dunno, I'm just thinking! Analyzing this game is fun.
