wordy post about genshin designs because hating on this game is one of my few passions.

As much as I like how the Snezhnayan characters look, they're just so plain. There's nothing too interesting about any of them (design wise). Very few cultural references, generally a very similar colour palette , just overall repetitive and bland. They're so forgettable I actually can't believe how boring most of them look. Both Nod-Krai and Natlan scream the same issue. The same overused designs with a lack of representation despite taking inspiration from a myriad of different cultures. Fontaine truly was the peak of designs because everything after it has just been so flavourless. Why do all the women have the same weirdly cut dresses with excessive fanservice? Why are all the men so covered up to the point it looks cluttered and convoluted? The lack of cultural references in their more recent outfits is honestly just sad because they try to include the references in the character stories and their names but it just doesn't seem very cohesive (slightly unrelated example but Nefer facing colourism is a bit odd when she's literally the same skin colour as the NPCs. Hoyo really couldn't have given her even a slightly darker skintone for that scene?/rh Coming from a POC btw.) Genshin has fallen so much from grace. I had so much hope for Snezhnaya to bring back good/more interesting designs but I just feel quite disappointed. Tbh I blame miliastra wonderland for the poor designs because why does it get genuinely nice looking skins whilst the actual playable character designs are complete nothingburgers made in picrew? I'd prefer more visual representation instead of none at all because at least they don't look as soulless.
