        ’    mom !    ’ he lets the word drag out as he sits at her dinning room table. the only home jonas felt he truly had    (    minus ethan’s, of course    )    bringing another spoonful of cereal to his mouth as he waits for her to respond.

‘      jonas  !      ’            she  mimics  him  as  she  walks  into  the  dining  room,   bright  grin  plastered  on   glowing   features   (  quite  literally.  )   ---   she’s  at  her   best   and  brightest  in  the  early  morning.            ‘      good  morning  to  you  too.      ’

       a huff falls past his lips as he wraps his arms around the pillow resting on his lap, his legs crossed at the ankles as he looks up towards the other.      ’    are you saying you don’t have MY phone number memorized ?   ’      he lets his lips curve into a wide smile at her admission, eyebrows raising.      ’    okay, but what about your actual marriage, is that going to be a part of my business. and will be, definitely, one hundred and ten percent, existent. ’

her  lips   curl   into  a  smile  at  the  sight  of  him  like  this :     feeling  content,  at  home  and  loved;   at  ease.   it  fills  her  heart  with  joy  the  way  it  would  if  he  were  truly  her  child.   and  he  is ---  biology  be  damned.            ‘      i  don’t   need   to,  because  you’re  always  here.      ’            her  tone  is  light,  nothing  but   sweetness   in  the  words,  and  then  the  pleased  expression  turns  into  a   frown.            ‘      since  when  did  you  become   matchmaker  ?   ------ if  you  haven’t  notced,  we  can’t  really  stand  each  other,  so -- you  chose  the  wrong  dad,  i  think.      ’

       ’    first of all, why are you looking through my phone ?    ’      he asks as he reaches out towards the device, only to have it pulled out of his reach.      ’    and second of all, how do you know it’s logan’s number ? do you have it memorized, MOM ?    ’      a sigh leaves his lips as he sits back against the cushions, watching her face for a moment before answering her question.      ’    do you want a lie or the truth ? because the lie is that i obviously have a daddy kink for logan    …    the truth, however, is that you argue like an old married couple, and since you’re my technical mom, that would make him my technical dad.    ’      he let’s his ramble come to an end with a bright, sweet smile plastered against his features.

a  quiet  sigh  escapes  her  lips     as  her  hand  comes  up  to  the  bridge  of  her  nose  ---  either  to   hide,   or  to  express  her  exasperation  as  vividly  as  she  can,  or   both.   she  pulls  the  phone  away  from  him  as  she  answers,   absolutely  truthfully.            ‘      yes.   i  have  the  numbers  of  all  adults  at  the  school  memorized.   for  emergencies.      ’            then  her  hand  falls  away  from  her  face,  limp  at  her  side,  and  she  returns  the  phone.   she  has  to  admit   .  .  .            ‘      ---  okay,  that’s  kind  of  cute.   but  our  technical   ‘marriage’  is  none  of  your  business.   and  also  nonexistent.      ’

‘      that   is  one  of  the  artist’s  best  works.     it’s  terribly  underrated,  though,  at  least  to  me.   how  am  i  supposed  to  help  him  make  a   career   for  himself  if  people  can’t  appreciate  his  art  ?      ’
