Merry Christmas Lifeday everyone!
Aurafarming and watching bad TV.
Fox, walking into a room where Corries are yelping and hopping up on furniture: ATTENTION! The Corries plant their feet on the floor and snap to attention. Fox: SHOW SOME RESPECT! The Corries salute, thinking they're saluting him. Then, Fox salutes. Fox continues to salute until the rats the Corries were so afraid of finish gathering their crumbs and scurry out of the room. Fox: THANK YOU, RAT SQUAD! Corries, based on Fox's tone, repeat him: THANK YOU, RAT SQUAD! Fox: At ease, verde. The Corries relax, but look confused. Fox: The members of Rat Squad are members of the Coruscant Guard too, so don't scare them while they're just trying to eat like you are. Most of them smile. Fox: They don't bite, and some of them even like to be thanked for their service with hand-offered treats and pets. The last one finally smiles, because they don't bite! Fox: Now, carry on with your meal.

If Three had stuck to the plan in Platform Decay, it would have spent 2-3 days on the shuttle listening to Dr. Mensah and Perihelion-drone gossip about Murderbot 1.0. Three is a sophisticated data-mining machine. 1.0 would expect Three to snitch. Perihelion-drone would bully Three if it did snitch. Going AWOL really was the best solution.
Shout out to that one Disney short they made in 1995 to play in front of A Goofy Movie by the French Disney team which directly parodied The Exorcist because early 90s Disney just did whatever the fuck they wanted
hey. hey what
HEY. WHAT.
It's called "Runaway Brain" :3 Disney has a love/hate relationship with it because it's extremely beloved and held in high regard but also it does NOT fit their modern image so they can't promote or release it to any wide capacity because it would 100% terrify children.
Oh some of you didn't know about this, huh?
Anyway
this is how I found out that Mickey's brain extends up into his ears
Okay, but consider this...
Modern fantasy creatures and people being exposed to new lifestyles and developing dreams and goals that donât fit with their species or their culture in the slightest.
A dwarf who was born in a mine, grew up in a mine, and can count the number of times theyâve been surface-side on both hands. One of these times, they witnessed an airshow. They go home and tell their parents: âMom, Dad, I want to be a pilot.â âWhatâs a pilot?â âWeâll, yâseeâŠâ And a brief explanation later⊠âYOU WANT TO DO WHAT? WHERE DID WE GO WRONG? DAMN IT, ROK, I TOLD YOU THAT THE SUN WOULD GO TO HIS HEAD. NOW HE THINKS HE CAN FUCKING FLY, THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!
An elf who has a deep interest in geology and underground exploration signs up for a dwarven digging mission. Shows up first day all long limbs and being seven feet tall, and has to become a 90 degree angle to get through the door. âHey guys! Whoâs ready to look at some rocks? Am I right? Well, itâs a tight fit, but I bet I can do it if I squeeze. Ooh, I know some great digging songs by the way.â The dwarves immediately try to find a way to fire the elf without being sued for racial discrimination. âI told you we should have been more careful about the ad.â âI put in it Gold and Gems Monthly, Brek, how was I to know elves read that kind of thing?â âOHMIGOSH, GUYS COME SEE WHAT I FOUND!â âYour turn, Nik.â âI swear to God, if itâs another goddamn stalagmite againâŠâÂ
A centaur whose herd migrates to a coast area and sees the ocean for the first time. âGreyhoof, Iâm going to be a fisherman.â âWhat?â âIâm going to sail the seven seas; I want to be a sailor.â âBlackmane, youâre half horse, you canât sail.â âI can learn.â âYou canât climb their weird ropes things. What would you even do on the ocean?â âItâs called rigging and Iâd be a fisherman, obviously, like I told you.â âYOUâRE A CENTAUR, YOU CANâT SAIL!â âYOU DONâT KNOW THAT. DONâT TRY AND DESTROY MY DREAMS, GREYHOOF, I CAN DO ANYTHING I SET MY MIND TO. I BELIEVE IN ME.â
A mermaid who gets really interested in those land mountains that touch the clouds and meets an extreme mountain-climber on the beach, then decides theyâve found their calling. âIâm going to be the first mermaid to climb Mount Everest.â âWhat? Bluefins, thatâs ridiculous.â âNo, no, Iâm gonna do it.â âYou canât breathe air.â âIâll bring a tank of water, like what the humans do with air when they dive.â âYOU DONâT HAVE LEGS.â âI know, thatâs whatâll make me the first mermaid to do it. Iâm going to have to work around that, butâ âFOR FUCKâS SAKE, BLUEFINS. WEâRE TROPICAL.â âNo, see, there are these human things called coats. Iâve got it all figured out. Look, I drew plans.â âWITH WHAT?â
This speaks to me today.
The pain of being a Murderbot audiobook listener and having no idea how anything is spelled
it does suck that the government defunded PBS but it's also so fucking funny that now that they don't take uncle sam's slavery dollars they're running videos like "How america's foundation was built on genocide"

aaand while we're talking about defunded USA public media that doesn't pull punches when critiquing our history and government, I am once again going to plug a couple NPR podcasts. Throughline does deep-dives on history, culture, laws, and so on (link here); I'm especially partial to their We the People miniseries, which covers our rights from the Amendments. Code Switch covers culture, focusing on race and minority groups, and has been doing some especially good coverage on what the Trump administration's fuckery means on a practical level (link here). Throughline is a time machine. Each episode, we travel beyond the headlines to answer the question, "How did we get here?" We use sound and

Another Dispatch Idea
So we hear from Blonde Blazer herself in the beginning of the game when she telling Robert about SDN she says to Robert âMost of our dispatchers are former heroesâ.
So spoilers ahead. In the final act when Red Ring invade SDN Torrance Branch the other dispatchers were taken hostage.
I would have loved it if something like this had happened.
Galen: Guys I hear several vehicles coming our way.
Robert: Shit do we need to evacuate everyone.
One Dispatcher who is pulling a katana from under the desk.
Another set of Dispatch who is loading several guns.
A group of dispatchers who are heading out of the bathroom after a magical girl transformation.
Galen: I think weâre gonna have to call an ambulance. But not for us.
I think that would have been cool to see. Cause we saw something similar in Justice League Unlimited
But anyways they had a brief scene where the Watchtower is under attack and one of the attackers gets to where the civilian workers are hiding and all of them just decided to just take them. I thought it would be cool if Dispatch had something similar since Blazer herself says that a lot of their dispatchers are former heroes themselves.
having gone through the entire rest of the series now it could not be goddamn funnier that one of the things murderbot says in the first minutes after its revealed to have gone rogue is "i like you guys (not gurathin)"
learned today that one of the hosts of a podcast I occasionally listen to was in the epstein files because of an incident wherein she was being sexually harassed/abused by a man who worked in her field -> she created a google doc for other women in said field to anonymously submit the names of men who had harassed/abused them -> one of these men sued for her for defamation even though she didnât know him & didnât even know who his victim was -> he couldnât afford lawyers & reached out to epstein for funding -> epstein gave it to him -> after 5 years she was forced into a settlement & had to pay him over $100k. the way these predatory men find solidarity with each other is so so so profoundly evil
wattpad really gave ao3 a huge free promo with their new policy update that makes things even worse for their users. so to all the people who are now moving to ao3 due to thisâŠ
welcome! here are what you need to know about ao3 and how itâs the complete opposite of wattpad
trigger warning for the mention of contents that are allowed on ao3 that can be triggering to some.
ao3 is a non-profit organization. itâs run by fans (people like you and me), for fans.
fans donate to the site on their own free will to keep the site up and running smoothly.
ao3 is not a social media. it is an archive.
ao3 doesnât have ads. it doesnât have algorithms. it doesnât have âgoing viral.â
everything is endlessly free on ao3. there is no âao3 premium.â you will never see a single ad on ao3, and you can download as many fics as you want to read offline for free.
ao3 doesnât have an app. and ao3 doesnât need an app. any âao3 appsâ you see are third-party apps and are not affiliated with ao3, so be careful giving these shady apps your login infos or other personal information.
ao3 was built with the main purpose to 1.) be completely against censorship and 2.) host fics that are banned on other platforms like wattpad.
the reason ao3 doesnât have an app is because for it to have its own app, appstore and google play store will have to approve it first. and due to the contents ao3 allow, chances are that it wonât get approved. which is actually a good thing. it doesnât need an app. it works more than fine without an app.
on ao3, every single thing is allowed as long as it is fanfic or fan work (original works, fan art and video edits count as fan works, but if you want to post a video edits on ao3, you will have to post it elsewhere and then link it back to ao3 â ao3 cannot host video edits on its platform due to copyright issues)
by every single thing that is fanfic, I mean every single thing:
the filthiest smut without plot that is written purely for sexual pleasure is allowed. it has its own canonical tag called âplot what plot, porn without plot.â
fics that focus on non-consensual sexual intercourse are allowed, doesnât matter if the fics glorify or romanticize the act, doesnât matter if theyâre written as kinks. they have their own canonical tag called ârape/non-con.â
fics about characters who are minors are allowed, even if theyâre portrayed in a sexual manner, even if theyâre non-consensual sexual intercourse. even if the minor characters are romantically and/or sexually involved with characters who are adults. even if they fics are written in ways that glorify and/or romanticize the thing. they have their own canonical tag called âunderage sex.â
fics about incest are allowed. doesnât matter if they glorify or romanticize the relationship. they have their own canonically tag called âincest.â fun fact: the first ever fic that was posted on ao3 was a fic about an incest ship from supernatural.
fics about self-harm and suicide are allowed. doesnât matter if they glorify or romanticize the act. they have their own canonical tags called âself-harmâ and âsuicideâ also âsuicidal ideationâ, âsuicide attemptâ, âimplied/referenced suicideâ, etc.
fics about violence and gore are allowed, even if they were written for the sake of shock value. they have their own canonical tag called âviolenceâ, âblood and goreâ, âblood and injuriesâ, etc.
rpf is also allowed. doesnât matter if the content of the fics are dark and taboo. theyâre treated the same way as any other fics.
every single dark and taboo fic you can think of is allowed. and it has its own canonical tag. because it is the main reason why ao3 was created in the first place.
âbut what do I do if I donât wanna see fics about xyz?â you can filter out any specific tag, character and/or pairing you want.
âwhat do I do if I wanna find fics about xyz?â you can search for any specific tag, character and/or pairing you want.
a lot of ao3 users rely on tags to search for specific tags, pairings, characters they want. they also rely on tags to filter out and exclude specific tags, pairings, and characters that they donât want to see.
ao3âs tagging system is by far the most efficient one Iâve ever seen.
on ao3, our main principles are âdonât like donât readâ â which means YOU have a responsibility to curate your own internet experience. yes, ao3 allows all kind of messed up fics, but they also allow you the ability to NOT see anything you donât want to see, by filtering out specific fics, pairings and/or characters.
no. you cannot harass authors who write about things that disgust you. you can and will be reported for harassment, and ao3 takes harassment very seriously. they will not take your side. because fucked up fics are allowed on ao3âfucked up fics are the main reason ao3 was createdâwhereas harassment is a direct violation of their terms of service.
ao3 is a house of the freaks and the perverts (affectionate). you ARE in the house of the freaks and the perverts. so donât think about harassing or being rude to the freaks and the perverts who built this anti-censorship house and are kind enough to let you in.
ao3 is proship, profic, and anti-censorship.
any writer can write whatever they want, however they want. the only etiquette is that you tag your stuff properly and accurately
mistagging for visibility is heavily frowned upon here, and it wonât get your works more views. people will either block or report you if you deliberately mistag things with the purpose of getting your fic more views. as Iâve said before, ao3 is an archive. itâs not a social media. it doesnât have algorithms or going viral.
if you come across a fic that has the tag âcreator chose not to use archive warningsâ it means the fic may or may not contain topics that can be triggering, but the author wonât tell you what these topics are, or if there are any at all. so proceed at your own risk.
that said, because ao3 is a non-profit site that hosts millions of works about othersâ copyrighted characters, you CANNOT link a monetization platform anywhere on ao3, you CANNOT mention any donation, commissionâor anything that involves moneyâanywhere on ao3. no, you cannot imply donation, commission, or anything that involves money either. that is against their terms of service.
and because ao3 is a place for fanworks, the âwork sectionâ of your post has to actually be fanwork (fanfic, original work, fan art, link to a video edit count as fanwork). anything that isnât fanwork is not allowed.
you cannot post something on ao3 that is not fanwork. so no political statement, no call-out post, no âIâm looking for fics about xyzâ.
ao3 is anti censorship as long as what your post is actually fanwork and as long as you donât violate their terms of service that Iâve mentioned above.
ao3 has their own team of lawyers to protect them, their users, and every fanwork that is posted on their platform.
last but not least, donât write directly onto ao3. write and store your works elsewhere before copy and paste them onto ao3 once theyâre ready to post!! because ao3 does NOT autosave drafts for you, you risk losing everything youâve typed if thereâs a glitch, if the site crashes or if your device unexpectedly shuts down for whatever reason.
thatâs all for now. have fun and happy writing/reading!
I donât know whatâs crazier: that at least 200 species names had this specific slur, or that 205 of the 556 votes wanted to keep it
in case folk outside the UK aren't abreast of our news, the British press just hounded a black academic to death
a rough timeline of events (from memory, there may be inaccuracies, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
Cambridge professor of sociology Jason Arday is accused of plagiarism by another academic
the accuser is a "race realist" who believes that in a true meritocracy all university professors would be white. this is somehow not acknowledged much during the entire ordeal
this leads to several days of media coverage demanding an investigation, or that Arday is expelled from his post immediately
somehow this accusation that has no effect on the lives of 99.99% of the population becomes FRONT PAGE NEWS in all the newspapers for multiple days, above anything else happening in the UK or the world at large
following intense media scrutiny, Arday resigns his post as a Cambridge professor
today, august 14th, days after resigning, Arday is found dead at his home in Battersea
the British tabloid press remains, and will always be, fucking evil
Went to google more news about professor Jason Arday, and I swear to God the first two pages of research are rancid propaganda sites smearing the man's reputation, up to and including popular Brazilian news magazine Veja.
This article by professor Kehinde Andrews clarifies more about the story of racist harassment Arday has been suffering since he fucking got a teaching job at Cambridge in the first place, in 2023, as the FIRST Black professor in that fucking stupid institution, who sure is taking it's sweet time defending their worker, despite already fucking checking his work for plagiarism and saying he didn't do it:
https://www.voice-online.co.uk/opinion/comment/2026/08/07/ardays-resignation/
Arday's resignation has reignited questions about race and who is truly accepted at the highest levels of British academia
Several of the academics who harassed this man into suicide do not seem to have suffered at all in their academic careers. Actually, Dave Harris, who lost his Emeritus title for his racist behavior back in 2024 (something the news only call "criticizing Critical Race Theory", instead of "sent racist emails to fellow black academics"), was defended by Plymouth University, where he used to work, and fucking got the title back earlier this year.
A couple things about the above.
1. He wasnât the first Black Professor at Cambridge, but he WAS the youngest X
2. He was ALSO autistic, and nonverbal for the first 11 years of his life X
The rest of the story unfolds pretty much as described. And he was a fucking Sociologist studying racial equity in schools and academia. They publicly bullied a black autistic man to suicide for being imperfect whilst asserting a place for blackness in academia.
